  1. He probably meant 3rd, 4th, or 5th gen. Fish from a cross. 35 gens would take 70-100+ years to complete.
  2. Yes, Tom. You got it.
  3. Resulting progeny of F1 x F1 would be F2. Anything else is a new cross, and the generation label would be F1, though that designation is always referred to in a controlled environment, not in the wild. You can't really control what the fish do in the wild, so unless each generation is in a controlled environment, it's genetic heritage will always be in question.
  4. Sounds like you want to retro fit lift assist. I don't think such a kit exists. You're probably looking at getting a new model with that feature.
  5. Seems like you could just cut a worm in half, and measure it, or take a worm to the hardware store and match it up there.
  6. I've been getting a flu shot for over a dozen years. The very first time I got the shot, I had a minor 3 hour with the flu like symptoms. Never again with subsequent shots. Haven't had the flu, either.
  7. Nothing on the ned? You should have used the 1/15 instead of the 1/16 oz. head.
  8. Highly basic (pH) degreaser/cleanser. Works like SS, but 10000x effective and quick. I wear gloves, as undiluted irritates my hands. Cuts cleaning reel parts down to about 10 mins. Also works great to degrease bearings before soaking in acetone.
  9. Considered littering by most DNR agencies. I'd argue most of that is cover.
  10. How would an angler add structure? I suppose dredging a boating channel, but that's not the anglers.
  11. I just soak the spool with a few squirts about every 20 turns of the handle. Let it dry overnight. After each trip, I hit the spools with a few squirts again.
  12. See the Boat vs. Boat post.
  13. I've been wondering this, too. Nothing works as well.
  14. I commend you. I made an aquarium stand and light hood out of maple years ago. Very tough wood to work with. For making lures, I would use basswood.
  15. Numbers are still down, way down. No YouTuber is "making and selling" their own rods and reels. They are shilling for someone.
  16. I like them to look fairly original, but I want a driver. That means disc brakes, updated emissions, seat belts, etc. All that, but look like it did when it rolled off the line.
  17. So sorry for your loss, Tom.
  18. Starve a fever, feed a cold. Get well soon!
  19. Good grief, that's gonna be sweet!
  20. I skipped the last 8 pages of references, though I may dig into that later. Some may be worth googling.
  21. I'm still unclear how YouTubers are changing the scene? I mean, I've been fishing a long time, and I just don't get what "scene" they've affected. It's fishing. And I'm not sure who is actually making any kind of REAL money doing it. There's a few top educators, but other than that, free stuff in return for a plug isn't real money, and the bottom is falling out of that market anyway.
  22. A Stohlquist Fisherman is a little north of $100. Safety is nothing fancy.
  23. Key word...organized. Agreed, very interesting.
