  1. I don't know much about Gliss, but the Fireline Crystal fused line definitely froze up. I was disappointed because it worked so well casting spoons from shore for browns, steelies, and salmon.
  2. If it's cold enough, you can just gently rap the rod on the rear grip, and knock the ice out of the guides.
  3. We moderators started testing the Okuma EVX series this past summer and fall, and these are very nice rods for the money. The Okuma EVX Casting Rod 7'2" Heavy would fit your needs.
  4. Fall is a GOOD time for frogs. There's a late fall migration of frogs, before winter hits, and it can be pretty good fishing with them as the temps drop. Spring, not so much.
  5. Does a pocket frog sink and resemble a small finesse work on wacky jig? If so, that's probably what I'd use.
  6. If it's around 50, and dropping, then I'd be ignoring any topwater baits, and looking for something in the finesse department.
  7. You might have a better data set for fall, fishing same or similar water consistently. By fall, I'm after other species, or all over the place for bass.
  8. Hybrid vigor..good term, T9! We would see this in live bearer crosses and in egg laying danios.
  9. My experience echoes what you've found. LMB seem extremely inactive below 50°. Some of my biggest SMB have come from waters south of that temperature, though.
  10. Welcome to what we northerners have been dealing with for ages. Micros? No. Braid? No. Fluoro? Maybe, as a leader. Mono? Yes. Copoly? Yes. KVD L&L on the guides and line? Yes.
  11. Unrelated cross talk was removed. Carry on.
  12. For about the same $$$, you can get a Rebel XS tiller. Better build quality, Command Thrust Big Tiller handle, better storage, basically has all the goodies, and an open floor plan.
  13. OK, I was under the impression that stepping down would be a problem, but I guess not. I fish out my buddy's Lund tiller, and that may be perfect. Depending on what model, you don't have to lose the deck up front, and he'll have a good fishing position in the back.
  14. All I could think of would be a fishing pontoon.
  15. You can get paddle clips at any marine supply store.
  16. Crap. I need to send you something. I'm an idiot. Sorry bud!
  17. That's pretty awesome. I've fished the Kingfisher Society's lake. Those fish were something else. Huge bodies, small mouths. Length to weight ratio was nuts. 5 lb. fish that were maybe 18" long. Fun time. Genetics, food, water quality.
  18. It's used in more than just crosses, @Catt In your example, it would properly be termed F1 hybrid. I went to school for this stuff
  19. Just a little more interesting info: "F1" technically means "first generation." So, in the scenario Tom presents, "F1" is the fist generation from the resulting cross. Subsequent spawns from each descending generation would result in F2, F3, and so on. It's often used when breeding wild caught fish, and other animals. The F1 would be the first generation bred in captivity.
  20. "Sub-strain"? Is that even a thing? I mean there are subspecies and there are strains. I've never heard the term sub-strain used in any scientific classifications.
  21. Are you a boater or non-boater?
  22. Why would you want to trap water in a box? Get the Hydroflo boxes, and your rust issues will disappear.
  23. 2° this morning. I got 24" of snow in around 10 hours , Friday night.
