  1. "Fast" is a relative term. IPT would be how you compare different reels. I thought this you were asking about a reel for pitching and flipping? What's cranking got to do with it?
  2. My only requirements are a strong frame, reliable drag, and fast retrieve. Both do this. I suggest you try them on a rod, and decide which form factor is most comfortable.
  3. So, for $10-13 more you get a bait that walks easily straight out of the package. That choice is easy for me.
  4. Really liking the new Rippin' Mono. I've been testing 12#. For all purpose, you might want to step up to 15# for all purpose, depending on your cover.
  5. Sorry I wasn't clear. Cowboys fan, since I was a little kid.
  6. I hate the Giants. Cowboys.
  7. If you think it matters, then go for it. I'm sure the bass don't care about what team you are matching.
  8. @Scott F that's a sweet ride! Congrats. That would be a killer boat for the Susky, out my way.
  9. Simple, braced shelves up high for Rubbermaid bins should do well. Workbench below.
  10. I can cast a Popmax on a 6'2" M/XF casting rod a country mile. So far, it's my favorite popper. Rico's are on the shelf the past two years.
  11. If I know there's a fish, I may hit that spot more than a dozen times.
  12. I guess I'd limit the fishing time, and train them to focus, while teaching them to fish for the strike. I use a float rig. Pretty simple, float goes down, raise the rod and reel in. Hook sets itself with that pressure. I'm just not sure why you'd use a meat and potatoes method for catch and release. Unless your keeping them, but then why the circles? Anyway, maybe take a look at some float/shot patterns, and try it. Pretty deadly technique for trout of all sizes. http://www.raventackle.com/shotting_patterns.php
  13. I'm getting the popcorn.... I'd like to see that data as well.
  14. The only time I use a dinger that small, it's for bed fishing. I use something bright - orange, pink, or white - so I can see when the fish picks it up. As far comparing trout to bass, in my time fishing for each, trout can be much more color selective than bass. If it's down to some specific color the bass are patterned on, then it's been a pretty tough day fishing for me.
  15. The parts are usually model specific. The Pawl itself is pretty easy to change, but you generally want to change out the pawl and worm gear together. It's not a job for a rookie, for sure. You might want to contact Lew's or Delaware Valley Tackle (link is in the sponsor sites on the right).
  16. There really aren't too many secrets in fishing. Small bodies of water can succumb to pressure. Sometimes it's just ebb and flow of the health of a lake. Some spots just disappear, like the willows that a homeowner cut down, and dragged out of the water. I remember feeling heartbroken when I found my brush pile laying on the dock after we sold our cottage. With today's mapping and DI/SI tech, even the often super hard to locate wrecks on Oneida are pretty much community spots now. The times I get careful about what I share is when I'm stream fishing for steelhead. It only takes one off comment, "Yeah, I stuck 12 today..." and the next day that parking lot is full.
  17. Just curious, why a circle hook? I've had great success with Raven Sickle, Specialist, and Octopus.
  18. The price is comparable with Gheenoe pricing. Similar type of craft. These are more like personal flats skiffs than a kayak.
  19. Find some job you love to do, and has meaning to you.
  20. I like the Yum Dingers for < 4'. They are slow to sink, and I think that's a good thing for shallow, clear water. I like OG senkos for deeper stuff, up to 10'. If I'm wacky jigging, I like the Jackall Flick Shake worms.
  21. Long Dropper w/ a heavy drop shot. https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/dropshot-bedding-bass.html
  22. As long as there is mustard. You don't want to stick to the bread.
  23. If the clear gel coat is gone, you'll never get it to shine. I've seen mixed results with wet sanding and buffing. You might want to have a pro look at it, and advise you.
  24. I'm going to be 45 in a few weeks. I can't remember not fishing. Same thing happens to me every spring. What am I going to do with all this?
