Abu Garcia Conolon Rods - (Un)Official Review.....
So I bought the rod and am overall impressed with its performance. It's sturdy yet plenty sensitive. Paired with my Accurist, I am very pleased. I got the 7' MH and can cast a mile... Two things I would change: It is a bit heavy (but still tolerable) and I wish the handle was slightly longer. I caught my first fish with this combo yesterday which was about 3lbs and it handle very nicely. I would compare this rod to a Tourney Special. Bottom line, it was $39! I would recommend this rod to anyone who is trying to save some $$$ while getting a decent rod that should last for awhile. Here are a few pics... This combo cost less than $100!! ;D very pleased...

Bass Pro Shop Reel Trade In
I was very close to picking up an extreme reel... so close, the guy said if I stood there any longer they were going to give me a green shirt and put me to work!! instead, I walked around for the usual two hours picking up and setting down hundreds of dollars of equipment before finally walking out with 2 spinnerbaits, a pack of skirts, and some bullet weights! just under $10

Abu Garcia Conolon Rods - (Un)Official Review.....
I will be buying one of these today unless there's something horrible that anyone knows ;D It's $40, has a powerhump handle, 10 guides, IM7 graphite and looks great... I have mostly 6'6" and want to get a 7'MH... just wondering if you've tried one.. thanks http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/abu_garcia_conolon.html

Braid for everything
Yeah, unfortunatley I don't think this will be as productive as I imagined... a good friend of mine only uses braid and catches just as many fish as I do when we go out. but I went out yesterday and got skunked with only braid on :-/ (VERY rarely happens) the water was pretty clear and the fish were very timid and the braid stuck out like a sore thumb in their beds.... I will probably give Yo-zuri another run for bc gear but will probably run XL or Sufix Elite on my spinning gear. what pound test do you run on spinning equipment? reels are rated for 6-10lb test

Skunked!!
it's a pelican intruder 12'... it's perfect for the small lakes and canal systems here in florida... 30-36lb trolling motor pushes two people plus gear just fine... pretty stable too. best $200 I've ever spent! ;D

Fishing Line
Two questions: 1. What color line do you prefer for mono for finesse presentations? Low-vis green or clear? 2. What pound test do you use for spinning gear (specifically for topwater)?

Skunked!!
What appeared to be an absolute beautiful day to go fishing was very unproductive :'( The wind picked up to about 15-20mph (a little too much for a jon boat!) There were beds with fish all the way down the 2 mile canal.... however were extremely skidish!!! I threw everything in my tacklebox at these guys... I guess you win some and you lose some....

wow, what happened?!?!
weird, never happened to me before... at least it's a confidence booster for my line and knot choice....
-
wow, what happened?!?!
I casted by the base of some trees and got snagged on a root I believe and couldn't get it loose... anyway, after a few good jolts I feel my line "snap". at least I thought it snapped... when I go to tie on a new hook this is what I see... the line and knot were still in tact!!! what the??? I was using a worm hook with a soft jerkbait... did my hook break before my line???

Braid for everything
It's official, I am now using braid (Powerpro) on ALL of my setups... I was fishing the other day and running a chatterbait along the shore when a HUGE wake appeared and my bait started going sideways!! No sooner did I pull, the line popped like I was using 4lb test... I was using Yo-zuri 15lb... This is not the first time this has happened so I swore that would never happen again... The line was not old, frayed, or anything... just snapped like a twig I fish alot of topwater and not really a fan of braid for this presentation but what choice do I have?!?! :-? Also, braid is a little too visible for some of the timid fish I encounter... I definately prefer powerpro over spiderwire but the invisbraid is starting to tempt me... Anyone else use braid for EVERYTHING?

New BC Reel - Which would you pick? (Under $75)
Love it... will buy another! It took a few casts to get dialed in but now casts effortlessly and feels stout when catching fish. I just need to get my drag dialed in and I will be set... I definatley recommend this for a sub $75 reel... woo hoo!

What was this guy thinking??!!
haha... that's great...

Ever had a graphite reel break?
All of my spinning reels are graphite and I've never had an issue hoisting in BIG fish... I have spiderwire on them and have hoisted in 20lb+ fish (unfortunatley not bass) with no issue. Baitcasters are a different story. I tried the Pinnacle Solene for a day. It reeled extremely smooth with 8 ball bearings but when I hooked into a 10lb fish I could litteraly feel the reel flexing in my hand! Shortly after that the drag was shot and things started falling apart... was returned the next day. I have an old Quantum Iron round baitcaster which has never faulted in a fight to this day... I just purchased the Accurist CX and can't wait to try it out... ;D

New BC Reel - Which would you pick? (Under $75)
I hope I like it that much... that will give me reason to purchase another... : thanks for everyone's input... (even the Shimano guys... ) I feel I've made an educated purchase...

New BC Reel - Which would you pick? (Under $75)
I liked the Megaforce but it was a graphite frame. Noone around me sells the Exceler which was another one I was considering but I heard it feels cheap in your hand. I went with the accurist because of the frame and the braking system. Can't wait to try it out. ;D

Knot for Big Lines?
The trilene knot seems to work well with about 3-4 twists. I use it for 17lb.

New BC Reel - Which would you pick? (Under $75)
Oh! Did I already post this for you? : ok, I'm starting to realize we have quite a few who like shimanos.... please don't ban me for saying this, but... I went to BPS yesterday and was not impressed with the Citica! :-X Granted, I have not casted one but just holding and reeling I was more impressed with the Abu, Quantum, and Pflueg... IMHO Sorry guys, no Shimano's in the Poll! ;D (also, I've removed the Daiwa's... didn't like the twitchin thing...)
