  1. In the process of a rebuild and need to know how big to make the platform to mount the trolling motor. The original size was about 16-17" from the front of the boat. However, this is a 1987 boat, thus a 1987 trolling motor. Have the sizes of the trolling motor brackets changed? The plate on my trolling motor is about 23" long. How big is mine compared to yours?
  2. Looks good! What'd you use to paint the trailer?
  3. Got the floor finished today. Next steps: Flotation foam and begin on the deck(s). Screwed down All glassed in
  4. Quick update. The floor is cut. I used styrofoam as a template and I will never use cardboard again! Styrofoam was much easier and it was the same size as my plywood (4x8 sheet). Bildge and livewell pumps I should have the floors glassed in this weekend and hopefully can get started on the decking. I say hopefully because something about "gettings the baby's room ready". Can't the wife see I'm working on something!! Here's the future angler. He's due in August.
  5. I just installed one of these but I didn't flange the end coming out of the back of the boat. Will this cause any problems? I used 5200 to seal it and sanded it even with the transom. Just curious. Everything I'm reading says you are required to flange both ends. Just wondering how this would harm it??? :-?
  6. I have a through hull pump going into the bottom of the livewell. Do I need to plug this after I fill up the livewell? Also, will it drain back through the pump when I pull the boat out of the water?? Sorry if it's a dumb question Last question, I have plenty of this tubing around. It's made for bildge and livewells but I usually see everyone here using the clear tubing. Anything wrong with this tubing?
  7. Maybe a dumb question, but what would be the easiest way to get a 14' ft fiberglass boat off of the trailer so I can paint the trailer. Also, while the boat is off I would like to repair the bottom of the boat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
  8. If I recall correctly, it's only around 4lbs +/-.
  9. Thanks. I actually planned on only putting 8 cubic feet under the floor. The other 8 will be in the side walls when they are built. They should hold between 3.5 - 4 cubic feet per side. Those are 2x6's for the stringers. So I figured an average of 4 inches high, 12 inches wide by 10 feet long (the boat is 14ft). That works out to 3.33 cubic feet on each side of the stringer.
  10. UPDATE: I've got the stringers and transom completely glassed in. I am now ready to start on the flooring and deck. I might stop on the boat for now so I can fix and paint the trailer. But the other side of me says just to get the boat done and worry about that later! :-/ Also, starting to think of color schemes... thoughts?
  11. This is what I will be using: http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html For this job: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1227021296 I'm going to use the 2lb density and get two 8 cubic feet kits for a 14ft boat. Two kits should be able to float 960lbs +/-.
  12. Do you listen to the radio while fishing (specifically in a boat)? Do you feel it has any effect on how many fish you catch (positive or negative)? Just curious. Comments welcome -CV
  13. Thanks. I think carpet it is! Also Catt, this is the boat I was referring to. I don't think it matters if there was carpet in before
  14. Thanks guys. Just to clarify, I was referring to a topside paint such as this. Also, it would definatley be white! Keep the temps down in the summer. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/20433/377%20710%201011/0/Topside%20Paint/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/10/0?N=377%20710%201011&Ne=0&Ntt=Topside%20Paint&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&page=CategoryDisplayLevel1&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=44&subdeptNum=91&classNum=91 Is carpet easy to keep clean?? Can I just hose it off if it gets muddy?
  15. Currently rebuilding a 14' glass V-Hull. I was just wondering the pros and cons of each, carpet vs paint? I was pretty set on carpet until I went out on a friends boat this weekend which was painted. It got muddy as heck and when we got back obviously it was as easy as spraying inside with a hose and done... :-/
  16. Ok, good weather has finally arrived. I have been able to get back at the project for the past couple of weekends. Sanding fiberglass s*cks!!! Transom glassed in and stringers partially glassed in... Just a quick update... I'll keep posting my progress along the way!
  17. Did this ever get made? I've done searches and can't find it. Just curious.
  18. That's what I thought.... I've seen that motor go for $500-600 easy. Also, the boat is glass. As you can see from the last picture, ALL wood was taken out... extremely rotted. 2x6 treated wood will be glassed in for the stringers. I'm having trouble finding 5/8 treated ply. I think I might have to go to the lumber yard for that.
  19. I get mine from Wal Mart... they have all of the basic colors (green, red, blue, black, white, etc.) They sell them in quarts or gallons. I'm getting ready to do my trailer as well.
  20. The panhandle (recently moved from Broward County)
  21. hilarious...
  22. Week 17 is when the Titans will lose their first game... sorry guys ;D
  23. An itchy 5 hours, a few cuts and bruises later.... here's how she stands! (notice the trash bags by the street) I will be using treated 2x6's for the stringers. Next on the agenda... Sanding/Grinding > Not looking forward to that however...
  24. I plan on using 3-4 coats of Rustoleum (Roller and brush, NOT spray can). Let each coat cure for 24 hours and lightly sand before the next coat. Also, be sure to use a 1-2 layers of primer.
