  1. Does the Yo-zuri Ultra Soft have the same breaking strength as the original hybrid? I'm looking at my 15# original and it looks like a slinky! Maybe 12# would be better?
  2. for those who have tried it, how is the knot stregnth?? I am currently testing Vanish and the knots are hit and miss... I am using the Trilene knot and one time it will be tough as nails and the next it breaks immediately.
  3. I think if it was Pflueger or another name brand it would have their logo somewhere, correct? It does look similar to the Cabela's, but there's not a Cabela's within 3 states from here. Does anyone know if Bass Pro made one similar? It is great for hoisting big bass out of cover and is very smooth with 6 bearings, I just wish I knew what it was???
  4. A friend of mine gave this reel to me and he said it was a pflueger, but there isn't a name on it? I was thinking it was a BPS reel. Anyone know?
  5. Underwater, what is the clearest mono color? Clear? Low-Vis Green? Red?
  6. It was my first time using my new baitcaster... It was my first time using flourocarbon line... It was my first time using the "Wacky Worm"... On my first cast, busted a two pounder!! I've kinda ignored the Senko craze lately becuase I figured it was for bigger lakes or for everyone but me... I mean I know what works for my canal, right? I turn on the tv and my show "Hook n Look" is on... one was fishing with the Coffee Tube, and the other the Senko. Wacky worm outperformed the coffee tube at least 5 to 1. So i tried it.... went to wal-mart, bought the "Wave Worm" and lo and behold, Vanish Transition for $7!! I am a Trilene user for many years and could not justify the additional cost for flouro... well now it was the same price as trilene. The first three knots I tied broke... > I switched to the recommended Trilene knot and it worked like a charm! sorry for everyone with ice still on the lakes or going through some rough weather (also, anyone who was or knows anyone invloved in the tornadoes, my families prayers are with you)... I hope my fishing story can bring light to your day or help with your decision on what to throw when bass season returns!
  7. Ok, here's my story... I moved about 8 months ago to a house situated on a canal. I fished every weekend sometimes twice a week for two months and only caught a handful of fish! What was I doing wrong? I would occasionaly pick one up on a Torpedo or the faithful red shad worm. but the conditions of this canal SCREAM Bass Territory!!! I couldn't get over it... then one day I turn the corner in the jon boat and here comes this old man in a 10' pontoon thing... we start small talking.. shortly realize we're both from Indiana, more small talk (until I am comfortable to ask what he is throwing)... his response "I don't use anything but the Slug-O in this canal. It has worked for years and my brother caught an 11.5lb back around the corner!" wow!! so I reached WAY down to the bottom of my tackle box and blew the dust off of my last pack of albino Bass assasins.... I caught roughly 12 bass within the next two hours and continue to catch them today... by far, the slug-o (black with gold flake) outperforms the others... sorry so long, wanted to share with somebody.... ;D
  8. Sweet... I have the Cherokee and I am almost positive that it does NOT have a posi rear end. Very few 2wd models were made with it... (dam one wheel spinners!) Luckily the majority of the ramps here in florida are well made and have little to no slime... Ice is obviously not a concern either. I definatley prefer a glass over the jon however my fiberglass skills are non-existent. does fiberglass "wearout" over time? will I have to repair portions of the hull? is it hard? I have never owned a glass boat, only jons... I am fine with wood working and elecrtical so the wiring and deck is not really a concern...
  9. I am looking to buy a cheap boat and fix it up, however which boat I choose greatly depends on my question. I have a 2wd Jeep with the 4.0 engine. Will I be able to pull a 16-18ft glass boat out of a typical boat ramp without any trouble? My choices are a 16-18ft glass boat or buying a 16ft aluminum jon boat and decking it. There are some good deals (project boats) I am seeing and just need some direction. You experience and advice is appreciated!! http://fortlauderdale.craigslist.org/boa/527342796.html
  10. I am hoping 23-21 Giants, but unfortunatley I think this guy might be right... Go Colts! :'(
  11. thanks! i'll try the soft next or perhaps berkley vanish... dam monkey won't even let me try what I just bought!!!
  12. how's the stretch? I have the 15lb Camo Green on now... I guess I'll try it for awhile. although I don't like the thickness of the 15lb. it's almost as thick as some 17lbs.... also, is there a noticable difference in the Ultra Soft?
  13. Spiderwire Stealth for spinning rods. Although I only like the 6-20. I tried 8-30 and swore I would never use it again. My buddy talked me into trying the 6-20 and I will never use another line on my spinning rods. (I like the smaller spinning rods though). 8-30 is fine for a baitcaster however.
  14. absolutely! there's an older man who fishes behind my house all the time in one of these things and he's all over the boat. standing, turning, leaning to get fish, etc. (and no disrespect to him, but he's not the most sure-footed individual) you should have no problems in a rig like this. good luck.
  15. OK, I am in the search for the "perfect" line (aren't we all). The combo I will be using the line with is a 6'6" MH baitcasting combo. With this rod I throw cranks, spinners, and chatters mainly. Two of the most important factors for me is stretch and castability. I can cast the thing a mile, however I have lost a couple nice fish on extremely long casts due to "stretch". I just switched from Stren Original (which was giving me problems) to Yo-zuri Hybrid. I have not had the hybrid on the water yet but have made a few casts off the bank. I really have no opinion just yet. Any suggestions? Does anyone use braid on their baitcasters (i use spiderwire on my spinning equipment and am thrilled with it). What about flouro? Does it stretch? Lets hear it... (or if this has been asked before, lead me in the direction). I searched but couldn't find anything.
  16. The water here is way LOOWWWW! so there not on the "beds" per say but I did hook a nice egg-filled momma a couple weeks ago..
  17. ...when you told the wife you were finished an hour ago and you're still on your last cast... ;D
  18. lmao.... i am guilty of a few of these.... ...when you get home from shopping and put everything "away" and throw away the boxes, bags, and receipts before the wife can notice. (not to hide it, just so she doesn't have an excuse to go get that new pair of shoes!!)
  19. my buddy only uses spiderwire on all of his reels (bc or spinning). he recently tried the Invisible braid on one of his spinning reels. he says he still prefers the stealth as he couldn't tell much of a difference between the two. I use stealth on all of my spinning rods but haven't tried the Invisible stuff... (out of my budget...) 8-)
  20. Hello everyone, newb here! (Newb to the forum, not bass fishing!) The wife and I are moving to Panama City Beach in June and was curious if anyone has any experience fishing this area? I have been doing alot of research on the local fishing and seems like Deer Point Lake is pretty good. (I hope so because if there's no BASS, we aren't moving!!) ;D I am looking forward to the different species I will be able to fish. I've fished S Florida for the past 12 years which is home to the beloved Peacock Bass! I will miss those guys but am looking forward to Striper and Crappies... Any advice, suggestions, or expreience with this region would be great!! Also, looking to buy a 14-16ft v-hull and decking it. With a minimum of 25hp, I should be ok to move around pretty good, right? I only have a 2wd Jeep (4.0 6 Cylinder) and would hate to be pulled into the water by a 18ft Glass boat.... :'(
  21. ;D got my vote! make sure you video tape it... might be worth $10k
  22. Number 1 with a 30lb trolling motor would do you great! Those things are actually quite stable. Good luck. A small canoe wouldn't be a bad choice either... anything to get you on the water...
  23. Bench high should be fine, wouldn't go any higher. I actually prefer v-hull over jons due to the extra engine and weight capacities. (Personal preference) Good luck, always a fun project.
