Aluminum Spool And Magnetic Brake?
Interesting 🤔 I wonder if I can tap into this and run a led light for night fishing or charge a battery. And it is generating a little heat. 😁 I never knew that my reel was generating electricity, even if it is only within the spool metal. BTW I have that flashlight.

Aluminum Spool And Magnetic Brake?
Well then consider it for general consumption.

Aluminum Spool And Magnetic Brake?
Cargo shorts on… ready… set… go Perhaps this demo will help. 30seconds in. Movement is relative to the magnet and aluminum. Skip the better performance of the supercooled stuff — that probably aint gonna be on a reel. Physics.

Don't do this!
I’ve matured over the years and don’t need my mother to clean up my messes. 😀 Just enough grease is enough, after removing old. I don’t like to mix new with old.

How do you sell your rods?
ALF?

We are loving the strength and durability of this affordable braid!
I see that 101 is camo, but is it easy to watch above water?

Profishiency Krazy
One of the many reasons I won't buy anything from ae, or similar.... not even a box of toothpicks. I won't help to enable this stuff

Langley “Lakecast” Model 350
Will modern reel oil be good or did these reels use a heavier weight?

Is ML enough?
Ha! Yes. Maybe so. I'll go ask... It was pointed out that I do not have spell check enabled so apparently my subconscious mind was at work. It's good that some part is still working.

Is ML enough?
It seems, after all the responses here, that your finance is trying to open you eyes to new possibilities. Take her fishing and see what else she can teach you.

How do you hold and cast a spinning rod??
3 up front and 3 in back. Balances that way.

Do you really need to spend $100+ for a good rod?
I think we all know of the youngster using an inexpensive outfit and who happens to catch the big fish of the day... they don't pay much attention to the cost of the outfit.

Braided line - which ones stand out?
@WRB I'm interested in how the Fins lines, and this Sling Braid, hold up over time, especially the color and coating (?). I need something these days other than a moss green to see against the green waters we have here, as a line watcher. Thanks.

Cynical
Tom, there may be two types of people. Those who try, can and do, and those who drag down the others to make themselves feel better. Those of the latter type are the sissies.

Tying Braid to a Spool
I’ve been noticing the wisdom on this more lately, digging through line specs to match to reels. But I do SMH when seeing metric vs. imperial measurements that need conversion. Now, going back to your reference to polyester/acrylic tape: do you put that down first on the smooth no-hole spool or over the finished tightened knot? And is this tape similar to the gift wrapping ribbon that can’t be broken by hand (but with adhesive)? I’m not suggesting gift wrap technology for reels but trying to understand what this is. Thanks.

Pet peeve regarding "centrifugal brake" nomenclature
So, its where the bass is, right?

Geary feeling reels ?
I'm learning here. Please elaborate. How does drag setting affect longevity of gears?

Is a baitcasting reel that is 7.3:1 ok for a beginner?
Keep in mind the spool diameter. spool diameter x ratio = line retrieve rate (inches per revolution of handle). Fishing is about observing and trying -- a middle ground reel is just that, jacks-of-all, master of some. Try one and see what you can do, look as the lure is retrieved. Is it appropriate for your purpose, such as worm fishing? Some of the older reels (like, last century) have larger spool diameters than some reels of today, but they have a slower ratio (torque?), and the line retrieve rate is compatible with some reels today. I remember when reels in the 6.x range were high speed, making the 5.x "slow". When they went to low-profile reels, the feasibility allowed these increases to faster ratios and line retrieve. Technology changes things.

What kind of line do you recommend
I don't recall that he suggested a rod action to match a no-stretch braid. Am I wrong in thinking perhaps a slower action?

Old black Ugly Stik has gotten hazy. Possible to restore finish?
Interested in this in general also. That spiral wrap fiberglass is unraveling on my brother's ancient Ugly Stik -- sort of maintaining it's name. That's probably a step or two beyond yours.

Best catch on your cheapest combo?
Well, growing up all I had were cheap combos. Zebco rod with a 202 for instance, but I can't say I recall what I caught on that, maybe a 2 1/2 lbs bass using a texas rig lizard. But I do remember using my Ryobi VMag4 on a 5 ft. Berkley Lightning rod that I got as a freebie when I bought the reel from KMart. Caught a 5 lbs bass on a buzzbait.

Waterproof Baitcaster?
It wouldn’t bother me in the short run that it is dunked but that sediment swirl he left it in does. If mine, it’s stripped soon after but he has a shop full of those things.

Is there a decent baitcasting telescoping rod?
Are the stores still kind of run dry with available selections? Lightning Rod = Walmart and such. I see in my area the Walmarts are without much but the toy rods. I wonder if this route will mean more driving around. Maybe call the dedicated shops for inventory? Take a reel.

Any tips for someone just learning to skip a baitcaster?
I learned that for me it is better on a more heavily accessed lake immediately adjacent to where kids typically throw rocks into the water, just to blend in better. ?
