  1. I understand your frustration but it all boils down to he is still your father. As people age they they become less flexible in their thinking based on their knowledge & experiences. That's normal. When you come to an impasse with him you just have to swallow your pride & let it pass. It will make more sense to you when he is gone. I didn't always agree with my father but I always respected him & yielded when necessary.
  2. Highly recommend Cory with XTR Fishing Charters fishing out of Erie PA. https://xtrfishingcharters.com/
  3. His legacy will live on forever by all who knew him. RIP
  4. A couple of extras I couldn't include in my other post. Fishing Lake Erie last week.
  5. I got a chance to get back to Lake Erie out of PA waters after leaving four years ago to move down south permanently. Our group of four guys planned a week trip with 6 days of fishing shortened to just four hours of fishing daily. The guy I fish with can only handle limited time on the water before he gets worn out. Since we are all retired the extra time off fishing gets devoted to playing poker, having a few drinks & just enjoying the comradery. I had a great trip fishing jerk baits my favorite approach to catch smallies. We caught a few casting but most of the damage was done drifting. My most successful baits were Smithwick Rogue DD & Lucky Craft pointer 127 & 128 models for the shallower water 10-18 fow. The Smithwick DD did the most damage & was ticking bottom in 15-16 feet while covering 18-23 fow. We didn't catch a lot of numbers but caught quality fish. Water temps were 47-51 over the trip. Air temps went from a low of 45 to 58 degrees. We had mostly cloudy skies, fog & rain off & on. We lost two days of fishing due to high winds/waves. I ended up with eight smallies over 5lbs & a beautiful 7.47 lb trophy girl. Actually a new PB beating my old PB by 1.5 oz.
  6. Think of it as an opportunity.
  7. I use a three or four turn wrap on a trilene knot to attach the wire to hook or bait.
  8. G loomis IMX MBR844C Most versatile rod I have ever owned from bass to trophy pike & lake trout. It can handle baits much bigger than its stated range.
  9. For a smaller bait (1/2 oz) I have had very good luck with a LC 1.5WK. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-LUCKY.html?from=basres
  10. Only when it's at your back.
  11. I'm 74 but have been blessed with good genetics. The secret for me to be able to fish all day long has been staying active with a regular exercise plan & maintaining good balance. I still have my share of aches & pain but the pleasure of fishing still motivates me.
  12. Sounds like your chiropractor is giving you good advice. I had a disc problems years ago that gave me a lot of grief. I did stretches, walked & core exercises which has solved almost all issues. So there is light at the end of the tunnel.
  13. You know what comes next right? Introduction into the 5 lb club. Congrats on the new PB.
  14. Florida cold front in April last Tuesday.
  15. X2 Same for me twice.
  16. Yes with soft swimbaits unless they are choking it you can delay until you feel weight/pull thru the rod tip.
  17. BR missed you. Glad your back.
  18. Great story that sheds light on how difficult establishing a world record can be. The video interview of mr Hayes shows what a class act he really was.
  19. Yes jerk baits work for toothy fish. I caught my PB pike on a LC pointer 100 series. I do switch out the split rings & hooks to beef up the tackle.
  20. You have to be careful with your conservation license. If you catch a musky & it dies for any reason you have violated your license mandate & can be fined. We had the Canadian DNR people teach us that lesson after we released a walleye caught in deep water that could not swim away. The only way we avoided the ticket was to give the dead fish away to another angler under his limit. We had two in the live well & were only allowed one each.
  21. Shorter life spans. That's why lake Okeechobee & other southern parts of FL don't have as many DD's as northern FL. The south of FL is warmer than northern FL.
