  1. Nice! I’ll drink to that too, lol.
  2. Two words: they work they also regularly catch bass. may not exactly be durable but for a dollar? No brainer. You could probably get 5 bass on them. I’ve a had “higher, real” spinnerbaits be destroyed after on bass so go figure.
  3. I kinda figured that about Utah, and that it would be relatively similar to my state. I’m in WA state so a 6lb is a hawg. Bigger ones are possible but much rarer. Good luck against your buddy. Keep us posted.
  4. I would not take up that bet against anyone living in the south. That’s a losing hand for me, lol. Great idea though. ?
  5. That is a sound list and solid selection. Not only that, it is “universal” in that the brand choice is on the angler.
  6. Can’t recommend a specific reel that I’ve tried, but a Shimano or Daiwa in the $70 and up (honestly, I can’t seem to go higher than $100 for spinning reels) is what I’d get if I were in the market. If what you mean by getting your reels wet includes full submersion, then that could be the culprit for grinding. Even if the water looks clear to us, there are still particulates in it. It would behoove you to clean your reels as soon as possible after a dunking. I admit I’m anal about it but that’s just how I am when it comes to being preventative. Nicer, higher quality reels are even more a reason to protect and maintain. If you treat them in the same way, the same result will be yielded, just more expensive. It might not be too late to get your current reels back up to snuff.
  7. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. Thanks for the tip about the flash, Jig man.
  8. You might want to look at salmon/steelhead rods that might have the traits you’re looking for. Okuma and Lamiglas. They should pretty much be 2-piece rods with few exceptions. many will be 8’6” however if not longer.
  9. I’ve made dressed trebles in the past but never tied hair jigs. I finally got around to it. I didn’t want to be excessive in the use of hair and they came out the way I had envisioned. They look better in person, lol. I made them for my dad, who I plan to take salt water fishing in the next few days. I’ve been told red and white hair is a good combination for the salt so I made some that way. I also made a few inline spinners. In addition, I plan to take him drop shotting with shrimp and squid too. My dad has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s anyone who knows, there is no known way to reverse Alz. This has been a bit tough for me to face. It is from him I learned to work with honesty, integrity, character and to do the right thing, even when doing so could cost you. I’m going to spend the next couple weeks with him. I apologize for this being a bit too lengthy.
  10. I’ve been using a medium fast since I started really using SBs because I no longer have a casting MH. At first, I was a bit concerned that my M power rod my not be the ideal option since we all think MH when it comes to fishing weighted single hooks, by they jigs and SBs. Well, I was quite surprised as the rod had ZERO issue setting the hook. A few times, it actually drove the hook through the bony upper part of their jaw, which I wish it didn’t happen that way. It was definitely pleasing to discover my M rod had enough power for the task at hand but on the bad side, it took away any excuse to acquire a casting MH rod.
  11. I can’t tell you off the bat, but I just look at a bait similar size and go with that. I usually have rapalas nearby for this.
  12. Nice! I’m just faster doing it with my hands, lol.
  13. Awesome. Thanks, Glenn.
  14. Come on, man!! If you’re gonna powder paint your jigs, the least you could do is pop out the paint covering the hook eye for me. And to make things worse I have a jig buster but I can only seem to find it when I don’t need it. I know, I ought to look at them before going out, but come on.
  15. That is good info. I cut down to colors I know work in my area. Also, bass don’t need to see the bait to strike so that kind of gives lure makers license to make lures in colors that attract anglers. Talk about being taken hook, line and sinker, lol. We’re all guilty too. ??
  16. Heck yes!!! Come on, man!! (To Shimano, not OP) Shimano, you just about lost me on this. Forcing me to choose a lower end reel in your line that has the AR is uncool. Perhaps hello Daiwa or other company, lol? ? @Columbia Craw you are spot on with those.
  17. I don’t have an Advertiser blocker and things are still centered. ?
  18. Nice work. If this is your first one, you’ve got! My first one was a disaster. I had the desire and wood working skills but not the knowledge the first time around. second time I did what you did. I’ve made flat sided and minnow type cranks and they’ve caught fish. keep up the good work.
  19. If you want a real fight in that light range, then you must forego the medium light realm of bass fishing rods. I recommend this rod because it is what I still use to this day and it is awesome. Remember, we’re talking truly ultralight, right? okuma celilo light action (it says light on the rod but its lure weight range is UL) rod. They have it in lengths between about 6’ or 6’6” up to 7’6” give or take. I have the 7’ one and I LOVE this rod. It has caught more bass and other species than all of my “bass” rods combined. I either have a 1500 daiwa or 2000 rapala reel because those are the smallest reels I have and use 4-6# mono. you can probably find it for $40-50. BAM! Incidentally, I’ve battled 3 and 4# bass on it and to be honest, they didn’t even have a chance. UPDATE: I posted before seeing redmeanssitortions’ post so my post second’s the motion he started.
  20. What knot(s) are you using to complicate the simple dropshot? I’d wager you’ve piqued the attention of some here including me, lol. The simplest set up is to use the Palomar knot. Done. ‘Nuff said. I don’t waste my time pre-rigging a drop shot. Makes no sense especially if you direct tie from the main line. What is there to pre-rig?
  21. Don’t worry, my friend. He’s always been around all of us but we never knew it and he will make his presence known to you. Any time you feel the sense or urge to acquire fishing gear of any kind, especially when you know you don’t really “need it” or feel you “have to get it” that’s the bait monkey whispering in your ear. please check out the thread whose title is escaping me at the moment but it’s about the latest acquisitions we make. Truly a bait monkey supported thread. ?
  22. Welcome! I sense the bait monkey is strong in this one. ?
  23. I don’t know, it looks more like 22 lb bass to me. Awesome job both of you!!
  24. Another welcome from Seahawk city! I’m also not far from you.
