  1. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing or both that the monkey is strong in these here folk. I’m glad I’m disciplined enough to not be swayed in such a manner. ?
  2. There isn’t one. Anyone who tells you otherwise is stating an opinion and not a fact. Let the species and conditions dictate the length of your rods, not your height. I am about your height and use rods 8’6” and 9’6” and have no issues using them so I know you won’t either.
  3. Seriously? ? If that’s your biggest concern, you’re better off than most. I get the irony though and I’m kinda chuckling. 2-piece is a convenience thing. My beautiful 1-piece bass collect dust while the 2-piece rods get all the action. They’re always in the trunk and ready to go. These newer two piece aren’t those of yesteryear. I’d be surprised if you noticed the difference because they’re that good, assuming it’s a two piece that is well built with quality components. Fly rods come in even more pieces yet they’re very sensitive so go figure. You can always return it.
  4. Just a shot in the dark, but Why not try putting them in a container with baking soda? I think that would be better than exposing them to the elements. Works I fridges, on smelly bodies and feet, so I imagine it ought to absorb whatever nasty smell is on them.
  5. If you mean Invizx, this is my favorite FC. STAY AWAY FROM VANISH. BAM. 'NUFF Said.
  6. You can bet it does. Any real birds nest will cumulatively weaken any line over time. I know all of us kink the line when undoing nests. But there is a difference. What you are describing sounds to me like line dig as a first guess. Normally doesn’t happen much with 40# braid and up but apparently it’s happening to you. A buzz baits poor aerodynamics don’t help especially if it gets caught in the wind with line dig. Heavier baits can usually bust through line dig.
  7. Calling it a drop shot rig ruins the name of a legitimate technique, which is one of my favorite to employ. Therefore, by the powers invested in me, I shall state with the truest of conviction, clarity of thought, rename this despicable, honorless, and shameful method to acquire fish, the “snag shot.” ?
  8. I made these a long time ago but never had a chance to use them. I made them for tiger muskies but they aren’t in that lake anymore. Probably make decent earrings, lol. The tarnish you see on the blades is a testament to how old they are. Red white and blue is my “patriot” pattern.
  9. That’s why you’re having the slipping effect as already stated. I experienced the same thing using braid. I prefer using backing over tying through the spool or using tape nonsense. You only need barely 10’ on mono to do this and you probably already have some mono lying around. You didnt say what pound test you’re using but I hope it’s at least 30# or you’re going to meet Mr. Line Dig soon enough.
  10. I also go horizontal like Weber but only use J hooks. One set for spinning rods and the other for casting rods. I do not keep reels on the rods when they’re hung. What i I like about mine is that they are out of sight from anyone looking into my garage so no eyesore for the Mrs. and no incentive from snooping thieves. Still could get robbed of course but hey.
  11. I could be wrong but I don’t think the reel cares what line you put on for most bass fishing applications including fluorocarbon.
  12. I second that motion. Yes you can use it but it would better serve you as bluebasse86 stated.
  13. What type of line are you using? What size and color of senko? Go basic. Some type of green pumpkin (297) or watermelon something. Also hook type and size. I cannot put my finger onto why right now, but both EWG which is naturally offset and the offset straight shank is producing zero and little respectively, say less than 10% vs using a light wire straight shank hook. 2/0 or 3/0. I can best guess that perhaps the hook is affecting somewhat the senko's descent. I need to figure this out because I only have a few 2/0-3/0 light wire hooks left and I can't find any more locally. I am using 10# mono, and it's outfished fc in one outing. Shocking but true. I know because the guy with FC (technically braid with fc leader, I was pure mono) is my buddy, lol. I would honestly prefer 8# test and I do like fluro for my drop shotting when I feel like splurging a bit on invizx, but 10# mono has been killing it and I am not going to change what isn't broken. I try to use the lightest line I can get away with and for my conditions, 10# is the ticket. It didn't matter, spinning or casting. Mono is killing it. WHY?? Shaming FC all the way to the bank. HOW??? Refractive Shree-smactive index nothing. FC should have smoked mono by a country mile. Maybe line type also influences the senko's descent enough to trigger bass to strike, meaning the bass didn't care for the FC descent, and preferred the mono descent? You also said that you could see the bass which means that they could see you. Maybe you need to be a little more stealth and less visible too. I'm going to do what I can to help you get your first senko bass, and I've only been at it in its tradition use (t-rig, texposed without weight AND non-drop shot). I also got my first bass on a senko wacky rigged. It was awesome. Gut said there was bass hidden cover and the t-rig had no takers. Switched to wacky direct (no O ring) and dropped it into the same spot and bam! Don't forget about trying it wacky rigged.
  14. All I can say is and pardon the pun, but STICK (lol) with it. I was the same way. I signed off on those senkos in 2007 for the most part, only using the 3" ones while drop shotting. Fast forward to this season. I bump into a guy on the dock of my home lake. He was planning to trout fish but after talking a bit, I learn he's looking to catch his first bass and he had a couple of things with him, among them a pack of 4" senkos, pumpkin green, black flake. I told him that's a bass killing bait, but I didn't tell him that they have never worked for me with any consistency. I quickly accessed from my memory bank everything I learned from using them and we realized he didn't have the right hooks. As unlikely as it was, I actually found an ancient (but pristine) bag of light wire 2/0 Gamakatsu straight hooks in my bag. I set him up Texas rig and taught him to texpose and the basic retrieves. I had my doubts since my home lake bass are stingy and even "stingier" on senkos. I have never caught a bass here on any stick type bait. He casts it not 12' off the dock over some grass and WHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even 10 seconds fish on and his rod went down hard. Nice 1.5" bass and excellent first bass. My lessons learned - 1) Don't sign off on lures. That don't "work" for you or in your area. There is a time and place. You need to find both. 2) You had better get your butt to sportsman's warehouse and get senkos - 297, lol Over the course of my fishing season, I have been killing them during my short fishing stints. Surprisingly, the BPS stickos have been working too and their action is close enough to the senkos. All others like the SK zero are have yet to get on the scoreboard and the YUM dinger a measley 1 bass. Senkos work. However, as we all know, you can have the best presentation, but you can't catch what is not there. It's a harsh reality for us shorebound folk.
  15. You can add WA state to that list. When I saw that hidden footage of him in action,I knew exactly what was going on. I am not a snagger but I’ve seen enough ****** do it for salmon. Boils my blood.
  16. If you are already right hand dominant, the transition should be fairly quick. Even if it isn’t, it honestly shouldn’t take very long, especially if you practice in the yard. If you have at least one spinning outfit, switch the handle and see how it feels. This is one feature of a spinning reel I WISH casting reels had, lol.
  17. Memory free on their spool will probably mean it won’t be memory free on yours... unless I suppose you wind it on your spool the same way, lol. IMHO, excellent marketing strong enough to get anglers to bite (I like sufix line btw). ? I’m with you - oxymoron
  18. Very impressive gear. But here’s my humble selection of high end and JDM rods and reels:
  19. I’m surprised she hasn’t told you to get your own, lol. J/K. Does it have the anti reverse?
  20. You had me until your mistrust of spinning reels, lol. And I’m like you in using my thumb. With that said, I will not hesitate to increase the drag tighten the drag a smidgeon if the lighter drag setting will prolong the fight and I know I’m going to release it. Any decent spinning reel from the nasci class and up should be more than adequate for you to trust it will do the job without concern. Spinning reels generally have more drag than a comparable bc reel (say a 200 sized bc reel to a 2500 sized spinning reel) so you might as well take advantage of it.
  21. Huge welcome from the Pac NW!
  22. You ever make it up to Seattle on an odd year like this year in the summer and I’ll get you into some pinks and cohos (aka silvers). Salmonids are king in my neck of the woods, lol.
  23. You’re probably right, cyclops2 as I have no reason to disagree with you. With that said, what success would we have to find bass lures with a barbless option? It means manual crimping of the barbs.
  24. That was an excellent video and discovery. Thanks, Glenn. I stumbled across this from YouTube and even though I don’t have a boat and have no need for a trolling motor, you had me hook line and sinker in the first few minutes. It would be interesting to see if lowrance will do something to dampen the noise.
