Reel Cleaning
I know Reel Mech has a great deal for members to clean/lube reels but I don't have the money to send them to him and we are getting close to spawn and don't want to be without my reels for a week or so. That being said does anyone have any good step by step instructions on how to do it, I don't want to screw anything up. I do have the schematics for all my reels to I have that going for me.

Maiden Voyage
I am thinking of building some sort of rudimentary rudder for the back of the boat, hopefully that will help keep the back of the boat from swinging around so easily.

Maiden Voyage
I went to Kill Creek, the water is still pretty stained and water temp was 44.6 degrees on my graph. With the east wind and that lake totaly unprotected on the east side, it was really tough to hold the boat still enough to actually fish much. I went out on Friday without a boat and caught a nice 2.5lb'r on a jig and pig just past the beachand two other guys in the same area both caught one or two in the same size range, also on jigs. Now with a decent boat, I am looking forward to invading your home lake over at Lone Star.

Help me decide on sunglasses
I just picked up my second pair of Costas over the weekend. I got the Tropic Stars, they are interchangable lenses and come with either gray, amber and vermillion, or gray, amber, and sunrise. I also have the Fathoms in blue mirror and both pairs are awesome. Very comfortable, light weight and best of all, a lifetime warranty.

Polarized Glasses
They are a tad more than $100 but they are worth it, Costa Del Mar Tropic Stars. They are interchangable lenses, so you really get three pairs for $139, not to mention a lifetime warranty. These are the second pair of costas i have. I also have the Fathoms in Mirror Blue lense.

Maiden Voyage
Yeah, I liked my kickboat at first but I was kinda restricted on how far I could travel on the water and the things i could do. Now once I get the hang of handling the boat and fishing at the same time, I feel like I have a much better range of techniques I can do effectively.

Yeah the trailer is only 8 foot long and 6 foot wide, so it is narrower that my truck which makes it difficult to even see it when backing it up.

Maiden Voyage
I bought a 9' Pond Prowler from BPS this weekend and although the weather pretty much sucked today, I still took the boat out on her maiden voyage. So far from the first trip, I can say, I really like the stability of the boat and the ease of moving around in it. The one downside is it does seem to get pushed around by the wind pretty easily, no granted it was blowing about 15 mph today and I was on a pretty unprotected lake. I also realized a couple other things, my boat handling and my trailer backing really leave a lot of room for improvement. I didn't even really fish today because I was battleing the boat and the wind so much. As far as tailer backing skills, well lets just say I could have won a lot of money on Americas Funniest Home videos. All in all, I am really excited about this fishing season, my first with a "real" boat.

Bought a 'toon
This is one of the best forums that I found that revolves around toon fishing and modification. The link below will take you to the forum with pictures of mods, there is also a forum there for float tube/toon fishing. These guys/gals are very willing to offer advice and suggestions for modifications and such. http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?forum=130;guest=39315562

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I went out last weekend for a while, but I was bank fishing and could catch a cold if I wanted to. As a side note, it was more of a testing session trying out Stren MicroFuse line, and it failed the test miserably. >

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I called City of Olathe about this because I wanted to know when it was going to happen, and they didn't know anything about the sale and future closing of the lake/park. They did say that they are planning on closing the lake either late this year or early next to dredge it out.

Review of Stren Mircofuse line
A while back I had asked if anyone had used this new "invisible" braid from Stren, and I think one person said they heard is was pretty stiff line. Well I have to say that I have never fished with bailing wire but given the choice between that and Microfuse, I would probably go with the bailing wire. At least that way I would know that it wouldn't break on me. I bought a spool of the 30Lb line, 12 lb diameter at BPS on Friday. I spooled it up yesterday and took it to the lake. My initial impression is that it felt pretty stiff, but we'll see how it perfoms while fishing. I had tied on a 1/2 oz football jig with trailer and put it on my jig rod which is a Loomis IMX 844C, the reel is a Curado 100, now i keep my brakes and tension control pretty loose on this rod since I use it to pitch with. I held the rod up at a 45 degree angle and released the spool, and no joke, nothing happend. The jig barely moved, I had to jiggle the rod tip to get the bait to fall and even then it fell very slowly. I thought well than can't be good, so I tried casting the same 1/2 oz jig and I basically had to step into the cast to get enough force to get the jig to pull line off the reel to go anywhere. Bottom line is, I came home, pulled the line off the reel, put it back on the filler spool and took it back to BPS for a refund. Again this is my opinion and experience, so take this review as you wish, but this has to be the stiffest most unmanagable line I have ever tried.

Will a blacklight spook fish
I guess the title pretty much sums it up, I am trying to decide on either green or black light for a cap light to do some night fishing this year.

Golf
I used to play or practice 4 times a week, played to a 5 handicap. Then had to have a cornea transplant on my left eye, lost depth perception for about a year. I re-took up fishing durning that time and haven't touched a golf club since, that was 3.5 years ago.

Hauling a boat
Thanks for the heads up on the craigslist trailer, I am going to pick it up this afternoon. Now I can keep the cover on my truck and still use it as a really big tackle box. ;D

Hauling a boat
I don't have a hitch, I just have a place for the ball on my bumper, but that is exactly what I need.

Hauling a boat
Cool, thanks guys. I guess I could go to an 8 foot boat if I had to but I would rather have the extra foot of space for when my dad comes down or my son wants to go with me.

Hauling a boat
I am planning on buying a pond prowler/bass hunter type of boat in the next couple weeks and have a question about hauling it. I have a Explorer Sport Trac, which is a cross between an explorer and a pickup with a 4.5 foot bed. It is 6.5 feet with the tailgate down. Would it be safe to haul a 9 foot boat in the situation with 2.5 feet of boat hanging out the back? Obviously, I would strap it in and put a red flag on the back since it is hanging out. This hopefully will a short time situation, until I can find a cheap utility trailer on Craigslist.

On the PFD subject
I am going to be fishing out of a 9' pond hopper type boat so if the wind is up enough for water to be coming over the bow, I won't be on the water and living in Kansas, usually Heavy rain is accompanied by thunder and lightning, so again, I will be no where near the water at that time, But thanks for the heads up.
