  1. Nice fish and WEATHER!! I would kill for open water right now
  2. If life ever turns up somewhere else it will be because we, or God, put it there. The tiny details needed to create life are mind blowing. Things need to be perfect

    Welcome!!!
  4. Welcome!!!
  5. I like to keep a T-rigged soft pastic like a fluke or creature tied on when I'm throwing a frog. If I'm getting alot of interest but few bass really smashing it, I keep fishing the frog but when a fish misses it I will immediatly throw the soft plastic to the boil. I've had some good days using the frog to find the fish and catching them on the T-rig. Also works good with two guys 8-)
  6. I'm betting KVD would burn up any reel in a couple months I fish Quantum and I've never had a problem. I love em. I know Shimano makes a great reel too. I don't think you can go wrong with whichever one you choose.
  7. Welcome!! Keep waving those stars and stripes 8-)
  8. A couple quick ideas that have always worked for me are: 1. For numbers, bring some larger size Beetle spins and hang a 3 inch curly tail grub in chartruse/red on it. When floating down look for areas of farily fast and deep(3-4 ft) water with thick tall grass hanging in the water off the bank. Float past then anchor or wade and cast along the bank so your coming right past the tips of the grass. Reel as fast as you can and hang on because they will charge out of the undercut bank and smash that spinner!! 2. For bigger fish, look for deeper pools with rock bottoms and carolina rig a soft pastic craw (I use Zoom speed craws). Cast down stream and drag very slowly up stream. I have caught some 18"+ out of some tiny streams doing this. 8-)
  9. Growing up my dad would take my sisters and I pan fishing at a local lake, usally a family thing with mom bringing a picnic and spending the day. Then when I was about 10 we bought a small fishing boat and on a few special weekends during summer dad would wake me up at 5am and we would take the boat to the lake. Some of the best times I've had with him were out in that tiny boat with the sun just coming up and fog on the water, I don't remember catching much but still I loved it. As I got older dad switched jobs and started working way more and we sold the boat, I didn't really care because I wasn't super interested any more but now of course I wish he would have kept it! When I was about 16 I read my first Bassmaster mag and my life has never been the same. It's all about the mental side for me. When I realized you could develop a pattern and catch more and bigger fish I went in full force. I can't stand fishing with a worm and waiting for a bite, I need to be thinking and working things out in my head. Thats what it's about for me. Now I just wish my dad would quit working so d**n much and go fishing with me again, I don't think he's been out for probly 10 years. Great thread, made me remember the good ol days ;D
  10. My vote is for keeping the Rossi. If you really want to sell it though, gunbroker is a good place to start as said above.
  11. Mike McClelland, Rick Clunn and Ike
  12. I don't know...Seems like there are alot of worse things these kids could be doing. I'm only 23 and the things that kids my age and younger are doing make this seem like just a ballsy prank to me. When your that age your going to do all kinds of crazy crap. It's just a fact if you grew up like I did. I'm not saying it's right or if they were my kids they wouldn't get there a** beat but I would much rather see kids doing pranks like this then sitting in a basement smoking pot while everyone thinks their "great" kids. : Just my 2 cts.
  13. We ended up going sunday. Sunny and temps in the low 20's. Never even saw a fish but still was nice to get out.One thing to keep in mind is that the end of the lake closest to the plant and therefore the warmest water is a fish sanctuary so u really can't fish the best water. I think you could probly catch some with a boat, but theres no landing so it would need to be a canoe or johnboat deal. We will probly head back when air temps get into the 40's, I think the action from shore will heat up a litle then.
  14. Just wondering if anyone has fished here in winter. I guess it's a power plant lake and holds some decent large and smallmouth. Thinking of heading down there on sat. I will probly go weather I hear anything good or not. Open water is to good to pass up! If anyone has fished there, some info would be nice. Thanks
  15. I would say that light rain would probly not have much effect on the DO in a body of water. The results of a heavy storm may be from the introduction of dead organic material that is washed in and muddy water. The dead organic material consumes O2 when it decomposes and the darker water may inhibit sunlight and the ability of plants to photosynthesize and the darker/warmer water will not hold O2 as well. Just my 2 cents.
  16. This is NOT a good idea. The process of hunting and taking a animal is not somthing to be made into a paintball game. This is the type of thing the antis love to here, people just out there to feel like they "killed" something. We are better then that and need to respect the animals/fish we harvest. Just my 2 cents.
  17. Got out yesterday afternoon on some WI river backwater. NICE sized smallies were hanging out in 6-8 foot of water close to shallow areas and hitting the football jig good. Caught some smaller fish on a jerkbait then switched to the jig to get the good fish. Felt good to finally catch some fish on a jig!! FUN!!!
  18. I'm in the process of trying to start a club here at UW-Stevens Point, but so far it's been hard to get any serious interest going. Too many people say they love to fish but really just want to sit in the sun and drink :
  19. Looks like fun. Gotta love those river smallies!! 8-)
  20. I'm from SW WI but I'm going to school in Stevens Point. I love the amount of water we have to fish up here.
  21. I would say that getting her in was luck more then anything. The min we got her in the net, she made one more big effort to get away and my line snapped. I have to say though, she could have made it alot harder. I've caught muskys before and I think if this one would have put her mind to it, she would still be peeling drag.
  22. Went down below the Dubay dam on the WI river yesterday for some walleye and smallie action. The bite was great for both and we caught lots of smallies and I got a couple that were over 18", nice fish for around here. Also got several eating size walleyes so a fish fry is on the books. The locks were open so the water was moving pretty good. The only thing fish would hit was a live minnow, weightless cast upstream to drift by them. I dont know how they were grabbing it because it was moving so !@*% fast. Anyway, in the middle of it all this big girl hit and I had a heck of a time getting her in with my 6'6" med/light pole and 8# line but that made it fun! The biggest Muskey I've ever caught. My tape only goes to 36" and she was well above that. Wish I had a better camera, but hopefuly this works. :-/
