  1. I've had a few buddies say that its a pretty good time but none the less stay smart and stay safe. We look forward to you joining us again soon. Mottfia
  2. Ok guys I have been thinking hard about this for a little while and I believe that I am going to start experimenting with softbody swimbaits. so what name brands do yall stand by? weighted hooks? colors? and anything that you can think about that may help me with this lure. One big thing that can really help me out is what knowing what type of cover, structure, and conditions do these baits work well in. Thanks guys, Mottfia
  3. my jig trailer depends on how I am fishing Swimming jig = paca chunk or frog chunk flipping slowly = pork chunk pitching fast or shaking the jig as if falls = craw worm I love to have a trailer that matches my jig. My favorite jig, Davis Jigs, makes its colors to match netbait paca chunks so it helps my confidence. umm...scent is not that important to me. I fish fairly fast most of the time and when i do slow myself down I am fishing with a pork chunk which has its own scent and taste. ;D Mottfia
  4. I guess a person with no patience should chime in. a jig can relatively look like a number of things in certain situation. In clear water it looks like nothing but that's not where they really shine. If you happen to be a person of low patience like myself then the jig is still a tool for you. One option is to swim it back to you. its great it pre-spawn, post-spawn...well anytime fish are actively feeding in shallow water. yes they can actively feed in post spawn but it takes an additional factor like the shad spawn. but there is a much better and fun option when the fish are in a neutral state and you don't want to slow down. Speed flipping and pitching...special note: this is so much easier with a boat. The idea is to flip to as many targets as possible in one day. You would simply drop the jig where you think the fish is, let it settle to bottom, and make one hard pop on the lure and move on to the next target. This presentation is completely out to force a reaction strike. For fishing slow and deep, Catt and WRB put in good insight in a number of their posts. I'm not a deep water jig specialist but I have had good success with it their teachings. Mottfia
  5. I would shake their hands if I was around to. That shows excellent character in your company's head guys. I wish a few more would get on the same page. Mottfia
  6. ok so let's see if we can put all this together. we have two types of strikes, prey and reaction. I agree that there is a territorial strike but I'm not worried about it cause its not spawn and I'm sure that reaction can cover that category if it exists outside of spawning. We also have acknowledged they focus highly on sight, sound and vibration. The prey strike seems to me that the fish would already be in a feeding mode so it wouldn't take much to get them to eat so creating a reaction style retrieve would still work. The sight, sound, and vibration should come down to how you work the bait. Since I am really concerned with triggering a bass to eat, I want to talk about creating a reaction strike, which should use all of them in some way I'm sure and I hope that some of the guys that understand the situation better can give me deeper insight or correct me if I'm wrong a reaction is by definition a response to a stimulus KVD always says in his video that a reaction technique is where the lure in in the bass's face before he knew it causing him to impulsively eat it. of course thats why flipping can be so good but there are more. The biggest to me is drop it on his head Another would be creating the illusion of a frightened baitfish or crawdad. The last one that comes to mind would be creating the look of a dying shad. I believe that a bass that is active or neutral will jump on those three looks if it got in his strike zone. The question is how do yall emulate each one? Catt was telling us about his grass technique a day ago and the first thing I thought about was how it was a reaction strike in a sense. The lure is hidden from the bass but it is curios by all the commotion. then BAM the lure pops out it is in his face. Its great advice that everyone should note. Mottfia
  7. For awhile I didn't care but things have taken a change. My main concern is without a doubt comfort. If it is hot I have no problem with shedding the shirt..but I'm going to have some awesome looking swim trunks up under it. Hey its summer! You never know when that next hottie will pull up on her seadew thinking that you are the Brad Pitt of fishing. I take no chances 8-) Mottfia
  8. just add some eyes to the white one and send it to my address. very nice stuff Gman Mottfia

I agree with outdoorsman on keeping it simple. I have a few confidence colors and trailers. I also like to fish a jig with the same color trailer. I got a kick out of the last post because I have been using summer craw paca chunks for a little while with good success. Davis Jigs makes a large number of their jigs to match the netbait colors ( I think the owners a good friends) so I can have a good color match every time. If you get a chance check out the Alabama Craw. It works well in stained water..which happens to be productive for jigs Mottfia
  10. As a college team, you have to have your foot in the door for them to know who you are and take a chance on you. That normally comes down to somebody knowing somebody or even better you as a club have a function that could get their name out. We have done both and end the end we have had great results but it all comes down to our relationship with the company and will to work hard for them. We also make sure that we are working with high character companies...yea it sounds like a tough thing for a college team to do but there are alot of great companies out there. We just got lucky and have been able to work with some incredible sponsors. The function can be just about anything that you can come up with but it should to be a good size with local media coverage and plenty of people. If you can setup something like that, the owner should be willing to talk to you more and it will help you feel like yall are on an even playing field (both of yall have something good to offer) which builds your confidence. I hope it helps some. I'm the president of the Troy University bass team. feel free to p.m. so we can trade ideas Mottfia
  11. Don't scare a man like that. :'(
  12. Day in day out you will see me throwing a spinnerbait. The guys in the club don't think I know how to throw another lure Mottfia
  13. Welcome
  14. Welcome to the board! Mottfia
  15. The was just brought up in any other topic but it sounds like a great question for everyone to get in on. What triggers a bass to eat a lure? Is it a type of action, look, etc. let's get everyone's ideas Mottfia
  16. I second Big - O Mottfia
  17. it lasts about a millisecond before a bream takes half of it. the next millisecond the rest it gone Mottfia
  18. Just based on the water temperature, you should just go out there and fish like you normally do. They should be pretty active. If there is any grass on the lake then pound that out. Any wood? pitch a bait beside it. What all does the lake have to off it water clarity, cover, structure, depth etc? Mottfia
  19. Congrats ! Go out and catch a few more. When you catch a big ole smallie let us know and show it off with a few pics! Mottfia
  20. hmmm I have to wonder about this one. I have read about infisherman doing studies on walleyes to see which colors they see best and if they see colors different than us. It has something to do with cones in the eyes. But I never read anything about bass. Mottfia
  21. well here we go Mattlures I do have to agree with you that alot of people really aren;t hatching the hatch or prey but I have to disagree with you on saying that only those lures mentioned match the prey. You are right in the sense that most lures don't look exacly like a baitfish or crawfish but if you work your lure or create a lure that "looks" as though it is that baitfish or crawfish to a bass under the circumstances then wouldn't that be "matching the prey" P.S. I agree with what Catt said a while back about if we really matched the hatch our lures would be 1/8 in lol, yea its being nit picky Mottfia
  22. yea buddy give us some more details on this cause that sounds crazy Mottfia
  23. Alabama has some of the best fishing in the world! Welcome to the board! Mottfia
  24. haha some people just don't know better Mottfia
  25. any rod will do. Simple use the good ole Flipping technique to send it out that distance. You will not be able to cast the lure at all with most any bass setup but the flip will work with any setup. if by some chance the lure is too light for the flip, you can pull the line out like you are going to flip but perform an over head cast, releasing the line at the right timing to send the lure out. Hope this helps Mottfia
