Is matching the forage/hatch species important?
Like Paul said, this topic has been beaten in and out. Looking for match the hatch or color topics will give you some good information. Many of us our divided on it which normally means that its your confidence in it. Mottfia

Upcoming Tournament, adverse conditions. Please help!
If its a river then I have just one things to say... NEWLY FALLEN TREES! Ok to add a little more than that. typically up and running what will drop trees into the water. The tree drop insects and all kinds of things for the baitfish to feed on. It also causes a current break. Those are two things that fish love in river systems. remember that the greener the tree the better! Mottfia

Can't believe I'm saying this but...
Shave those tops fin looking things off and I might give it a try. BUT since it is BPS I'm not going to put too much stock into it lasting too long or working all to well. If it does then I will happily take my words back Can anyone give a review on it? Mottfia

Advice on using wood
Hey guys I'mabout to start working on creating a topwater lure but I have a few draw backs. Can you guys suggest a type of wood that has good weight, easy to carve and sand, and floats. Also when in stalling eyes and hooks how do you go about it? I'm intending on making a lure that has a single hook and a skirt...looks like a jig in a way but floats. I've created one like it ( put a 7 pounder on the wall with it ) but I haven't been able to duplicate it . Any advice? Mottfia

Confidence is overrated
Confidence by itself means nothing. But when combined with something can mean the world. Confidence in your lures, your fishing location, your eqiupment, your knowledge, and yourself all come together in a way that can mean more fish. Why? because when you are confident in all of these you focus harder. You can focus what your lure is doing in the water and won't second guess your lure selection all day You have more faith in the fact the you are around fish meaning that you fish the area harder. You have confidence that your equipment is in good working order so you won't be distracted about the chance of it not working. You aren't distracted by the negative thoughts of not being as good as the next guy, not being on fish or fishing behind a guy because you have confidence that you understand fish and have the ability to pattern them throughout the day. And last but not least, you have the confidence that you are a good fisherman ( thats HUGE) There are days that will come where you will be skunked or have a tough day but in the long run confidence will lead to many more fish Mottfia

Lake Classification
Okay, you have a sample of 50,000 boated bass, their length, girth & weight. You can analyze that sample in three different manners: Average - Mode - Median. Without complicating the explanation, "weight plateau" refers to the mode. In other words, weight points where the weights bunch up (sticking points). Once you surpass a plateau (like a stock resistance level), the weight is likely to spurt. You may spend 10 years of your life reaching the 9-lb plateau, then the very next bass you boat over 9 lbs may weigh 11lb, 3oz, because the next weight plateau in most waterbodies is 12 pounds. To use buck bass as an example, the weight plateau of male bass is 4 lbs, while the ceiling weight is 6 lbs. This is purely statistical of course, and exceptions are rampant. Hope that helps. Roger OK let's see if I have this right. The weight plateau is the maximum size that a typical fish would reach in its lifetime (assuming it survives long enough) under the conditions available within the specific reservoir. Mottfia

grassed up lures? jigging and spinnerbaiting in grass
The spinnerbait can get through by either keeping the lure just above the grass or by ticking the tops of the grass. The second one works to where you slow roll it back to the shore/ boat and when you come in contact with something momentarily speed the lure up just enough to get it a few inches above the grass , then continue the retrieve. I do have to wonder about the secret to getting a jig through grass without clogging up. Catt, can you give us some more insight on this technique? Mottfia

JIG FISHIN!
Alot of people have a hard time adjusting to fishing the jig. its got a high learning curve and can get you skunked a few times before things start to go your way. Trust me I have been through it all with this lure but you have to stick with it. They have two properties that I love. The biggest is that they can be fished anywhere a fish lives...and stay there for as long as it takes. The second is that they catch bigger than average fish. Jelly Man, I'm glad that you have such an awesome start wih the lure. Keep it up and keep posting about your jig bites to convince a few more people to try them out. Mottfia

IM STUCK!!!
Don't worry about the lack of action. The ribs of the lure will push enough what to key the fish on where it is. The lure itself will come across as very natural because it possesses subtle movements that are more like the real thing. Mottfia

Lake Classification
Roger, can you give me a layman's definition of the Weight Plateau. I don't understand it. Mottfia

Lake Classification
I just read threw my in fisherman book and it says that bass prefer the early euthropic lakes over the other lake types. So if the lake contains properties of multiple types, lets say early euthropic and mesothropic then the majority of large mouth should relate to the eurthropic area, right? Mottfia
