This is true. I have worked with some of the best welders in the state of Virginia and there's only a handful that can weld aluminum with any consistency. It's not the easiest thing to do, believe me.

If you can find the fish, South Holston and Boone are prime locations for swimbaits. Boone has become quite the swimbait hotspot over the last couple of years. Although I have only caught dinks, I know of others who are catching big ones on swimbaits. While the change in smallmouth regulations last year have ticked off more than a few tournament boys, we they should be catching 20"+ smallies over the next couple of years. I know we everyone but me had a ton of 17 3/4" smallies caught last year. Fixed your post for you Burley....one sentence and a couple minor edits, no big deal. And was it you that said South Holston was crap??

Stuart, you can get in one of the clubs I am in. It's a fish by yourself club. We've got about 21-22 members at the moment. We've only fished one so far and you have to be registered by the 3rd one for your points to count for the fish-off at the end of the year. I'll pm you some info.

I think the Chatterbait qualifies here. One of the FLW guys (Thrift maybe) won a couple tournaments with it and it was the HOTTEST THING GOING.....now you don't hear much about it when the winners 'reveal' their baits. But like everything else, it has it's time and place.

The owner of the Minnow Pond that that guy was speaking of in one of his blogs, Melvin Crewson, died a couple weeks ago. It was a sad day for everyone who ever went into the Minnow Pond. Melvin was a great guy. I remember going into his shop when it first opened down on Hardy Road....dad and I always stopped in to buy minnows or plugs on the way to the lake and most times stopped on the way back to shoot the bull with everyone.
