How would YOU fish this spot?? Yatesville lake Kentucky
You are welcome. The guy I fish Yatesville with just joined the boards so maybe he will post more. Good luck, and I hope you catch some nice ones.

My Spooks need new hooks
Yeah, just take one with you. Also, be absolutely sure to get the same size that is on it. My friend swapped his out for a smaller size and he couldn't hook any fish that blew up on his bait. The split rings are a good and easy modification too.

This is one crazy goose
Wow that thing was rabid! I have never seen anything like that. Neat video.

How would YOU fish this spot?? Yatesville lake Kentucky
You are fishing my absolute favorite bass lake in Eastern Kentucky. It really does have some nice bass in it. The lake is a little bit older than 17 years old and it had some huge bass in it from the get-go because they flooded a lot of awesome farm ponds. I know you did good at the spot in the pictures, but honestly there are bass like that all over the lake. If you don't want to use much gas then the best place for you to put in is called Greenbrier Creek. I caught a keeper there a couple weeks ago and I was only 30 yards away from the boat ramp. If you do decide on putting in here, you will want to fish as soon as you put in, and make your way to where the idle speed buoys end. Then take a right and fish all the way down the left bank. I have caught about four keepers here the last couple times I went. You really could spend a whole day just in this area and you don't even have to start up the outboard. Here is a list of lures that I have consistently caught bass on at Yatesville Lake this year: Pumpkin Zoom Baby Brush Hog - Texas rigged with a 2/0 wide gap hook and a 1/4 or 3/16 oz. sinker. Watermelon Zoom U-Tail Worm - Texas rigged the same way. Pumpkin Zoom U-Tail Worm - Texas Rigged the same way. Pumpkin Berkley Power Lizard - Texas rigged the same way. Watermelon Red Srtike King Zero Worm - Senko imitation. Wacky Rigged on spinning gear with a 2/0 wide gap hook. The fish here really like the more natural colored baits. I caught a couple keepers Monday throwing crankbaits. One that was around 17 1/2 inches hit a Strike King Red Eye Shad in the Sexy Shad pattern. I hope this helps some. The guy I fish with the most really knows a lot about Yatesville lake. I will talk to him later and see if he has any more advice/information about this lake.

Bad line, Bad batch
I have been pretty fortunate. I only got a bad batch of line once and it was 8lb. Stren original. It was pretty cheap, so I just accepted my loss and bought some a different spool. If you have some money invested in your spool, then I would at least try to take it back. Where did you get it?

am i buying the right reel?
After using my baitcasters for a while I decided to try to switch my spinning handles. That was the most akward feeling thing ever!!! I know exactly what you mean.

What a gimmick!
I definitely held it...a bunch. He had a topwater tied on and after he found out he could only cast that rope about 20 feet, he put it down and didn't pick it up anymore. How's that Premier?

What a gimmick!
That is one nice looking reel for sure. Since the Carrot Stix came out I have wondered about their sensitivity. I just don't know how much vibration carrot fibers transmit.

New Shak-E2 Heads have been shipped
I got mine today! Thank you for the opportunity.

BigTom and TheBeast
Thanks again for taking me out. I had a lot of fun, even when I almost ended up in the drink ;D. I wish the crappie picture would have turned out better. Thats a nice looking bass though. Healthy fish. I went out yesterday and caught a few at Yatesville. First fish I caught was a 14 and 3/4 incher on a wacky rigged Strike King Zero. Later in the day I got my first Red Eye Shad fish. He was about 17 and 1/2 inches long and probably weighed around 2.5 pounds. Caught another keeper on a crankbait not long before we left. It was a good memorial day weekend.

a little help
I found the following in an online article here on Bass Resource which was written by Roger Lee Brown (The Bass Coach). "For example, if I were to fish a crankbait I would definitely use a softer tip rod with a medium or lighter action. Using this type of application will allow me to catch more fish than if I were to use a stiffer action rod. The reason is because most of the crankbaits manufactured are made with treble hooks, and if you were to look at the treble hooks verses the single wide-gap worm hooks, you would see that the points of a treble hook are very close together and the shank of the hooks are very short. If you use a strong hook set with these types of hooks, you would more than likely pull it right out of the bass's mouth. You just don't get the penetration into the bass as you would a single worm hook. So, by using a soft tip rod, it bends (or flexes) to where you won't have a sudden stop as if using a stiff rod. And a steady pressure while retrieving the bass back to the boat will usually land the fish."

Fat Ika rigging
That sounds like a really awesome rig. I just may have to buy me some fat Ika's and try this. Thanks for the tip.

New reel?
Because of the new alloy the frame is made from (salt resistant), the 10 HPCR bearings that it has (around $10+ msrp each bearing), That explains the price tag a little better. Ten dollars a bearing - Thats insane. I have somewhat been in the market for a musky reel and I bet this thing would probably handle one. I may just end up getting this sometime.

Question on baitcasting technique?
I would say as long as you can control it this way its no problem. Sometimes I will make a cast and switch hands while the bait is in the air and actually feather the spool with an index finger. I didn't notice I was doing it until recently.

Self Inflating PFD saved our butts today.
I am glad everything worked out alright. That truly is a scary situation.

berkley vanish translucent???
I resent that. Making a broad general assumption as that is childish and inmature. C'mon, that's what the laughing smiley is about... Regarding the line. I wasn't going to post...again! I have heard that the "New" formula Vanish is better than the old. The same comments have been made about the "New" Sensation. Unfortunately I used both of the "old" and will NEVER try the new... Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. > I used Vanish last year without any problems at all. I had it spooled on a Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier round reel and it casted as easily as mono. At the first of this year, I put the stuff on a Revo SX and it wouldn't stay on that spool at all. I don't know what the difference is but I switched to P-line and I am semi content with that for now.

berkley vanish translucent???
I have heard its actually a lot easier to cast than other popular brands. I may give it a try soon. The vanish would try to jump off of my spools after I casted it.

I may have caught a world record snapper
That sucks you had to put him down but I am sure an old, studly fellow like that has passed his genes on a time or two.

New reel?
I noticed that too. I don't see anything about that reel that would make it that expensive. Maybe the price will drop???

One Piece of Advice
No wiser words have ever been spoken. I've had some rough days on the water because I didn't follow this advice. And roadwarrior, ;D

Skipping?
Its something I really want to learn to do but I got some other stuff I need to work on first, especially my accuracy. Its got to be a lot of fun and pretty rewarding to put the bait back in places where bass probably have never seen baits before.

I may have caught a world record snapper
That really is a HUGE turtle. How did you get the hook out? What are you gonna do with him now? I have a lot of questions...lol.

Old timers vs New Guys
I hope 20 isn't old. If thats the case, then I am over the hill already.

Old timers vs New Guys
Well...being older could have something to do with it, too. Fishing isn't particularly physical, but youth has its advantages. 8-) That could be all it is. These guys still catch fish but they just don't seem to be as consistent as some of the younger fellows and we both know the older pros know as much and more about fish behavior than their younger counterparts.
