Welcome, and like searoach said dont be afraid to try new things. Use what you have for now, read a lot, and gradually get into new baits and lures.

When to set the hook?
Sounds good to me! The way I do it is the first tap I feel is when I set the hook, but that only if my line is already tight. If I lift up on slack line and feel that my lure is heavy then I keep the line tight and wait for a tap to make sure it is a fish. Sometime my line will just swim away and I know to set the hook.

Have you ever been able to tell there is going to be little to no bites?
Yeah, in a different kind of way. One way is if your fishing a lake that is used to sunny weather and you fish a day when it is cloudy(or cloudy to sunny) it can turn the fish off. This can happen on florida and texas lakes sometimes. Another is when the conditions are bad or you just dont like them then it can give you a lower confidence level. Whatever my opinion is on the type of fishing day it is going to be, i always try to keep a positive mind.

Need some help from a pond mangement MASTER!
You would get big bluegill but the bass would not have many bluegill to eat since the only bluegill would be very large. To have a good population of both bass and bluegill you need to have a stable amount of them (5 bluegill to 1 bass) take a variety of sizes of bluegill out so there can be big bluegill and smaller ones for forage to the bass.

Bed Fishing Problem/ Post Spawn
1. Cast past the bed from different angles then bring the bait onto the bed. 2. Yes one of the fish will stay for a period of time to protect the offspring.

Looking to Japan for new baits
I only use one bait from Japan called Yellow Magic. Its a very expensive popper but it is worth it.

bass growth
About 1 inch. Ive heard every 10 bluegill will make a bass grow 1 inch. Florida strain largemouth can grow 2 inches a year.

senkos & line type
I like flourocarbon because it helps me detect bites when the senko is falling.

Do ya'll fish Rat L Traps in the weeds?
Not really if there is weeds hanging on the hooks but if you feel the rat-l-trap get hung just rip it out with a quick jerk motion. The best places for a trap are along weed edges and over submerged weed beds.

Ya'lls go to baits?
In the spring a tube. Summer a senko, ribbontail worm, and a frog. I fall any thing.

Pond Plan
Tommorow I leave for NC to do some pond bass fishing with my friend. The water will be about 58-60 degrees. My plan will be to throw a senko for the few spawners there will be. Then a lizard for a couple spawners and pre-spawners. Finally, ill throw a small swimbait for some big pre-spawn bass. Thats my plan for the 10 day trip. Anybody want to make a suggestion? Thanks, Bassinboy

topwater frogs
OOOO maaannn you bet. A topwater frog catches the biggest bass in ponds for me. Especially in the summer they are amazing. When the waters warm the bass just inhale them!!! Trust me, try one.

Music While You Fish?

how do you tell if their are crawdads
Get a trap or you will see one eventually if the water is clear enough. They will be there in lakes and rivers and your best bet is they are their in ponds.

Giant Bass Baits!
A lot of guys catch monster bass on a variety of lures. For you, what do you think is the best lure for catching monster bass consistantly. For me its a frog, but I think the best giant catching bass lures are Frogs, Jigs, and Swimbaits. What do you say?

Which baitcaster?
I have 2 Citica's and they are great reels. No problems with them and they work for every bait and any rod. Which ever one you buy make sure you get some oil and take care of it. Helps alot!

Pond Basser... would like some advice
I fish ponds like this where there is not much bait. For the big fish look for the most attratcive cover to you, weeds, logs, ect. and fish it with realistic lures. The big bass will be there, sometimes they just get really smart therefore you need to use very realistic lures. Since you dont have electronics then just eliminate deep water. Just look for the best cover and use realistic baits and you will eventually stumble on one. One more thing, use baits to get reaction strikes, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, fast moving lures. Many times this is the easiest and the only way to catch these big bass. Hope you catch one.
