New Boat!! 14' Sears Gamefisher Jon Boat. I'm psyched!!
Hey all, picked up a 14' Jon-Boat today. I've owned a 17' HydraSport bass boat some years back, but sold it when we moved north. I wanted something cheap and to be able to get back in spots I wouldn't dare take a brand new bass boat. It is a nice boat, no patching of any kind and the bottom has no scrapes or dents. Belonged to an older man for about 20 years. Boat came with carpet, two high back folding seats, two anchors - a 15 lb. and a 20lb. brand new, various anchor and tie ropes, a Bottom Line fishin buddy fish finder, and 3 trolling motors. Two older minn-kota's- 30 lb thrust for both and a 6 month old 55 lb. thrust Minn Kota Endura as well as a 6month old deep cycle marine battery. Also came on a fairly nice trailer. Took it home for $700 bucks. Just sharing my new excitement to get off the banks again and finally fish some offshore structure!! Hope to add some decks and storage in the future with yalls help! The guy even threw in 3 lifejackets, 3 oars, and a brand new NET!! ;D

Bottom Line Fishin' Buddy 1101. Need instruction manual / Reviews??
Hey guys, I just bought a 14' flat bottom to hopefully convert with casting decks and extra storage. Nice boat in good shape. It came with a Bottom Line Fishin Buddy 1101 fishfinder. The guy bought it last year and it is practically brand new as he only used it once. He didn't have the manual for it when I bought the boat today and although It seems pretty standard as it is a low end depthfinder, I would like to find a manual for it. Anyone have one lying around, or know of where I can get one or print one online? I would be willing to send you $$ for shipping. Also, anyone use or have one of these models, how well does it work? I'm not expecting super detail, just the basics from a $100 dollar fish finder. Thanks!

Back from Gulf Shores
Thanks guys. I had a great time. I'm hoping to put back some money this spring and summer, and eventually try and move back to Bama by fall. I love the south, and think I'm pretty much over the state of Ohio, LOL.

He's got his priorities straight
Good stuff! My 3 nephews are 15, 8, and 2. The 8 year old will fish for a decent amount of time, but still prefers exploring the banks by the end of the day. The two year old mainly plants structure in the water for me, aka rocks. The 15 year old loves to fish but is constantly text messaging his girlfriend!! LOL

Who plans on "video-ing" this year?
No video-ing for me but I do plan on taking a whole lot more still pics of my fish caught this year. I never seem to have my camera around while fishing.

your fishing superstitions
Nothing that I would call a superstition or that I do religiously. I do know that I never catch more than 2 fish without retying. This includes any bream aka, bluegill, shellcrackers, etc.. Anyone have any plain old superstitions?? Same socks, or godforbid underwear you wear everytime?? ;D

Disgusted...
This kind of stuff whether or not anyone actually put the ball in the bass's mouth while alive happens all over the place all the time. And I must agree it is usually males from 13 to 30. I'm 24 myself and have gotten into numerous confrontations at local lakes and ponds with guys right around my age over their behavior to fish and wildlife. Everything from kicking an injured duck for no reason to throwing bass and other fish species as high and as far as they can when they release them. Nothing makes me as mad as seeing this stuff happen.

Back from Gulf Shores
Got in last night. Had a great time and the weather was great. Much better than here in Ohio thank god. Did some bass fishing outside Birmingham Alabama and caught 4 or 5 nice keepers. Didn't get a chance to do any offshore fishing in Gulf Shores but fished some brackish channels and got on 8 or 9 nice size channel cats with live shrimp. IT sure is depressing to be back here, lol. This trip just made me want to be back down south more than ever Hope everyone had a good week.

The movie "Awake"
I've been wanting to see that. Alba is always nice I've seen so many new movies this winter. Seems like I'm always at the movie rental store with all this cold weather. I still want to see In the Valley of Ella, and the new one with Will Smith.

WHat's WRONG WITH THE WORLD?
I'm only 24, and I heard this the other day. To tell you the truth even at my age. Nothing surprises me anymore. There are so many bad things going on everyday in this world and it is getting worse. I just try to stay out of the way of the rat race and the world. In the woods, and on the water is where I prefer to be.

I'm heading to Gulf Shores this weekend! Yahoo!!!
Leaving out this Saturday. Can't wait to get back to my home state and the Gulf for a nice little vacation! Probably no fishing on the itinerary, but will definitely be stopping by Guntersville Lake to take some pics and see my hometown of Scottsboro just up the road. I'm pumped!! It's been a couple years since I have been back to Bama. I'll probably come back to Ohio ready to get a U-haul and turn right back around If anyone has any good things to see or do in Birmingham or Gulf Shores let me know before I leave out. I haven't been down in a long time like I said.

Portages Lakes in Akron Ohio?
I fished from the bank there this past sunday for a few hours, Turkeyfoot I believe. I am not familiar with the lake at all but was with my nephew and brother in law. We ended up catching 2 small 7-9 " bass from the shore on small grubs on jigheads. I talked with a few anglers in boats and they said it was tough all day with only one or two fish between them and they were around 11 inches. They were fishing football jigs and a smithwick rogue suspending model. Water temp was around 44 degress in a cove, and that was the warmest they could find. Good luck, it is still very slow it seems but it may warm a little with this weeks 50 degree temps or so I hope. Maybe we can hook up sometime, if you need a back of the boat fishing partner for a day out on the lake. I'm always interested

Who here fishes from the bank?
I definitely agree a stealthy approach is key in bank fishing. But everyone has his or her own ways in going about it.
