  1. Great Bass ~ Congrats on the excellent trip. A-Jay
  2. I'd also recommend that you consider what your anchoring requirements might be - because you're probably going to need one. . . . . eventually. One suggestion is to mount a small cleat to the top of the gunwale (on your strong hand side) just behind where you sit but where it can still be reached to pull up. The anchor & line can be stored behind you at the stern. A mess draw string bag works well to contain the line while still allowing it to dry after use. A-Jay
  3. Nice Job ~ Don't forget to install your "Floor" A-Jay

  9. Hello Ford Motor Company and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Thank You so much for your support. A-Jay
  10. Yes they do. Especially for smallmouth. An early summer (sunrise) morning, on a deep flat adjacent to deep water, the faster I work it, the better they like it. I've had them almost rip the rod right out of my had. Smallies love to chase . . . . . . A-Jay

  12. Avid users of the drop shot almost always have a designated rig. If you plan on doing it, having a rod & reel pre-rigged saves time. Rigging one every time you want / need one is a bit time consuming but if you're not in a tournament, what's the hurry ? I have a designated D/S rig that's pre-rigged with my "standard" set up. However often times I'll need to change the hook type out to meet the conditions or a different bait. The VMC spin shot hooks with the swivel design will save you some time. Give this technique some time - it's very effective. Good Luck A-Jay
  13. On that day there was still decent snow covering some of the back forty - so we Helped them play in the snow to assist in cleaning them off - the rest they do them selves after another hour or so rolling around in it. But snow's all but melted off now - so we'll be hitting the less bogged up trails until mud season passes - should only be a week or so. A-Jay
  14. It's seems to work best with a fairly slow retrieve. I've had success with both the 3/8 & the 1/2 but they had to be worked slow to keep them low. Early season, mid to fairly shallow & at night, have been the better for me. Also, it's a good choice when you want to work high through cover as you can work it slow and this ones comes through a little cleaner. Keeping the trailer on the small side helped; 4 inch swim senko is good. A-Jay
  15. OK - I haven't yet but I'm going to try it. I'll let you know - thanks A-Jay
  16. I actually use a T-rigged D/S much more than open hook and many of my lake bottoms have a little grass that will foul up an open hook A 1/0 or 2/0 Gamakatsu Offset EWG Worm Hook in Black works well for me. I'll be trying the VMC Ike Approved Wide Gap Spinshot this year - which do look promising. A-Jay
  17. A small zip tie & you're done. A-Jay

  22. Being able to fish a variety of weather & on the water conditions effectively increases your chances of success quite a bit; including fishing in the wind. Experienced anglers know that at times, a stiff breeze is the catalyst to a long, hot bite and often one or more above average fish. So taking the time to learn how to do it safely & effectively can be worth the effort. Like most evolutions, having the right equipment & knowing how to use it is beneficial. I'd recommend a practice session or two that Is Not when you're trying to fish your best spot at the best time - save that for when you have become a bit more proficient, you'll probably do a little better. Some things to consider before you set up on a spot; your position in relationship to the wind (and any current present) how far you need to cast as well as how far you are able to cast accurately with the baits you plan on using, the presence of heavy cover; you'll want to set up in a position that allows you to pull a determined bass directly away from it ASAP after the hook set. Finally, sometimes simply blowing right up in the bank and holding there is a great option. Though your casting distance may be reduced, depending on the spot, you may not need much. This eliminates the need to anchor at all, keeps you from blowing over your spot & spooking fish and provides a very effective / natural presentation. Good Luck A-Jay
  23. There is a quite a bit of fertile fishable water all around me. It's hard to really fish it all thoroughly. Each season, I pick 4 or 5 and really fish them hard leaving the others to "rest" sort of speak. Last season one of the smaller lakes I'd not been on for 2 years gave up many quality LMB and several Citation size Brown bass - I was a little surprised and very happy. The past few years I have stayed off the largest lake in the area. And I've never even fished the most southern section of it. I've done well on it in the past but it's often very busy with anglers & recreational users. This season I'm going back and will focus much of my efforts early & late (at night too) in the day, especially on the area south that I've not fished. Did some map homework on the lake over the winter here and have several "Starting Points" already punched in. Looking forward to fishing this old but sort of new water again. A-Jay

Nice - but what's up with all the bad casting ? It's one thing to hang one up deep but repeatedly launching quality baits that far off target is nuts. Instead of a lure retriever maybe these guys need glasses . . . . . A-Jay
