Yes I do believe it "Will Work", how well depends on a few things. Right off the top, which top water baits are you planning on using ? Poppers, Chuggers & Spooks all have treble hooks, so consider that. If Frogs are an option, there are some considerations there as well. If I were using that rig mostly for jigs & topwater (and you're right, that is a little wacky) and since you're not planning on being around super heavy cover, I'd change out your line to 30lb braid. Then use a mono leader for top water and jigs or even go straight braid. Adjust your drag accordingly. btw - I'm not a Fluorocarbon fan anyway. A-Jay

I'll tell you this Bobby, over the past several years, along with Braided line - I believe Megastrike to be a most significant & positive contributor to my own fishing success. So, I'm on board. A-Jay

All the characteristics about a bait are thought to play some role; from the size, shape/profile. color and as discussed here, the sound. When you fish with a few of each of the same color of baits, usually there is one (or if you're lucky two) baits that even though they look identical, one just out produces the rest. May never know why, but there's something about that one that has it getting bit on average more than others. Haven't noticed it too much in jerk baits, but I'm betting it happens. I have one particular rattlebait like that - it's just killer. And one of my most productive cranks, is supposed to be "silent". But when I got it, I noticed that the weight inside is a little loose. So rather than silent, it has The Faintest little "Click' when retrieved. Really effective - Couldn't say why, but I'd probably swim for that one. I've since purchased several more hoping for another - And just like buying lottery tickets - chances are slim. A-Jay

Yup - And despite the insane weather there was still a decent little crowd of dedicated spectators at the weigh in. Probably the same people who would most likely otherwise be fishing in that deluge as well. Watching Dave Mercer do the "Speed Version" of the weigh in was comical too. A-Jay

Catfish are serious predators that do swim after, catch & eat live prey. Seen them taken on a variety of artificial baits including jerk baits. A-Jay
