  6. Pretty sure we all have 'our own individual way' of measuring bass fishing success. Certain that varies wildly between bassheads. So there might not really be an accurate way of projecting my version of it onto any one else. Either way, the A-Jay version of true measure of success, only happens a few times each season. And I'm OK with that. It's when I find myself in the right place, at the right time and doing the Right thing. And it has to equate to trophy brown bass; at least one anyway. When this doesn't happen, I do not consider that time a failure, per se. Instead it's merely a stepping stone. Just one more day closer to the parade. Because as long as I keep my head down and fish hard, it's just a matter of time. btw @Mobasser You Sir are on a roll ! A-Jay
  7. Dirty Jigs Tactical Bassin' Finesse Swimbait Jig Head, VMC Boxer Jig Head and VMC Flat Shad Jig Head IME ~ and as a general rule, the softer the bait, the more the boot tail will move and at a slower speed. Durability usually suffers but I may get more bites if & when slow is the deal. I almost always want & need the bait to 'have good action' (or swim) every time I kill it and allow it to fall back to the bottom. Either on a slack or especially on a tight line. That said, the jighead weight (line / leader size and the hook wire gauge to some extent) play a few roles here. I'm always looking for the right 'match'. Casting distance, rate of fall and how it swims (as noted above) can all be dictated by the type of plastic (softness), and the size of the boot tail as compared to the weight of the jig head. Too light and the bait/tail has nothing to 'push against' and to heavy a head can over power the bait completely. When I get it right, the jighead will act as the perfect counter balance for the bait & the tail, which will enable the swimbait to have that tail thump and THE SHIMMY, which often times is the magic sauce. 12. Been a weather watcher forever. Barometer is part of that. Moon phases, as it relates to bass fishing, has been 'inconclusive' from what I've found. Do prefer new moon (blackest nights) for night ops. Still, while I've had some decent outings during every lunar cycle, the single best week of largemouth bass fishing I have ever been a part of, did occur during the week of an October full moon. So there's that. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/210559-lake-baccarac-~-oct-2018-in-sane-video-added/ A-Jay

  17. My first bass catch happened during the Lyndon B. Johnson administration, not that I knew anything about that at the time. I was fishing with my Dad & younger brother when I caught my first largemouth bass. We were on the bank at a local county park lake. This is the place but not 'the day'. After joining the service in 79, the vast majority of my angling efforts occurred in the Atlantic Ocean, both inshore & offshore, for a variety of cold & warm water species. Still bass fished when I could but those opportunities over almost 3 decades, were far less than they are now. Retirement is Bliss . . . . A-Jay
