Working to Stay Lean ~
Workout Day 2. I must admit, I like this one. Doesn't mean it's easy. More like basic, functional, and effective. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

So what's your other obsession?
First, I'm not the least bit embarrassed to say that for the past 17 years This Forum has been a very pleasant obsession. Also, between any fishing trips and during the entire 4 months or so of hard water season here, I battle gravity. Every other day for 45 years. Still not sure what's wrong with me . . . . . A-Jay

Your Main Reason For Using Fluorocarbon Line?
There may be a bit more to it but for me, it's because it sinks. Thus allowing presentations where that is beneficial to run and/or stay a little deeper. A-Jay

Winter 2025 ~ 2026
We are having winter here. Waves of snow day after day and daily high air temps in the teens. I'll be clearing the property again tomorrow. But all of this is so good for all things. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
Back around to Workout Day 1. As the new year approaches, ask yourself what's really important, and then have the courage and the discipline to take the actions required to build your life around your answers. Decide, commit, succeed. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

What is your system to prevent boat rash?
I am fairly detail-oriented. At this point, upright/off-the-deck reel placement is a given and virtually eliminates reel rash. Especially when rumbling across Lake Menderchuck, even with the boat carpet. A-Jay

$500 Rod OR Reel
I do that as well. It's called the Lake Baccarac trip fund. Big Fan. 🤑 A-Jay

Keeping track of multiple rods and techniques
Short answer is - I Really Love them. Both the Spinning & Casting sticks. Bait monkey just delivered 2 more. I sold my LTB and Victory rods to help fund the switch; if that tells you anything. Also I am putting together an Avid Rod Review video that I plan on posting this spring. Prefer to do it on the water in the Lund after releasing A Nice Fat Smallie. Keep an eye out. A-Jay Sure did ~ My CRS hasn't advanced to a stage where I can't remember what rod combo is used for what lures. This is simply a way to ID and then select what I want to fish next from the rod locker. A-Jay

$500 Rod OR Reel
Nope. I'm going for a $500 Gas Card. 🤪 A-Jay

Keeping track of multiple rods and techniques
I'm still pretty good at knowing what's what. Also for quick rig identification in the rod locker, I use a color-coded rod sleeve system. So easy an A-Jay can do it. A-Jay

Overlapping lures
I'm going to come at this from the opposite direction and say there are No overlapping lures. Allow me to expand on this. I am basing this deal on two different but basic trains of thought. 1. Each bass is an individual with individual likes, preferences & tendencies. Just like our own experiences drive who we are, how we act, what we like & dislike, I believe the same applies to a bass. And yes I get that the fish are driven by instinct, but there has to be some variation or wiggle room in there when it comes to what they prefer to chase, how they attack, and what they like to eat. If this didn't have at least some validity, the bait monkey would have been extinct a long time ago. It's why I have the arsenal I do and why I will always offer at least a few different 'variations' of a similar bait in area I have already caught a few before departing. 2. Not all baits are the same. Take any hard bait as an example. I cannot count how many times this happens. I have, say, 5 perch-colored baits. All the same make and model, same hooks & hardware. But only one has no paint left on it because it's The One They Eat. Doesn't mean the other 4 don't catch, just that this one has something I cannot detect but sets it apart as more appealing. Can't explain it, but the bass certainly display an overwhelming preference for this particular bait. Finally, if there were such a thing as an overlap, I'd have to say it would be something soft plastic. YMMV. A-Jay

Do You Truly KNOW Your Primary Pond Or Lake.......???
Right off the bat I will say that I fish one of 3 different Lake Menderchucks 90% of the time. They are sizable bodies of water, and I've only been fishing them hard for, let's say, 9 years. I feel like I know the follow- I know where the fish are not, mostly. I know where everyone else fishes. I know where the pike are. I know where there are some fatties a few times a year. And finally, I know there is always plenty more to know. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. A-Jay

What are your 2026 fishing goals?
Oh Man - @gim you are going to have a time. Here's some top secret early season tips - Be on your best big fish spot 7 -10 days after the ice goes out. 42-44 degree water with a decent SW wind is magic. Good Luck and don't forget to put new batteries in your scale. You're gonna need it. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
Workout Day 4 ~ The concept of "strength as a perishable skill" means that strength, whether physical, mental, or a related discipline like willpower, diminishes over time if not consistently practiced and maintained. It emphasizes that past achievements do not guarantee current ability; ongoing training and practice are essential to retain and build strength. When training ceases, the physiological adaptations (muscle mass, neuromuscular efficiency) and psychological resilience that constitute "strength" fade rapidly, especially for us senior citizens. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

What are your 2026 fishing goals?
Fishing goals for this upcoming season. Pretty much the same as they have been for the past several. Be safe. Stay committed to keeping my mind, body & spirit strong so I can be on the water. Fish with my wife as much as possible. Record most every experience. Fish hard and make the most of every opportunity I get. A-Jay

backing up the boat trailer
I tow with a slightly jacked up GMC 1500 with a full cap with tinted windows. So side mirrors are my only option during all single axle trailer maneuvers. No problem because that's how I learned to do it. As a solo basshead, I am not a speed demon during any operation. And that's by design. Speed kills. I am slow and methodical. If and when there are other boaters at the ramp that would prefer that I am faster, my response is that perhaps they should have considered arriving at the ramp earlier, prior to my arrival. The truth is I rarely have anyone say anything, but the looks speak loud enough. Too Bad. If they relax a bit they will get to watch a professional at work. Might even learn something. https://youtu.be/1Y6eZUyhUUo?si=V8eRSpWV4a7f6IWW&t=210 A-Jay btw- since recording this one, I have added trailer steps. Makes this deal safer & even smoother.
