Winter 2025 ~ 2026

It's been 'feeling' like it for a few days now and we finally got our first measurable snow last night.

A whopping 1 inch.

Some left in the grass but nothing on the roads.

It shouldn't be much longer before we get a few lake-effect dumpings.

With a 150-inch annual snowfall average, there needs to be at least an inch falling every day now for the next 5 months or so.

The faster the lakes freeze over, the less evaporation occurs

which is both a good and a bad thing.

Longer open water means more snow, which could be good.

But it also often results in lower lake levels if it stays too warm for snow.

Last year was great for the area on both fronts. (except for the super damaging ice storm in March).

Time will tell how this season plays out.

Stay Warm

They keep telling me it's going to end eventually. But I'm really concerned that my Qualude stash might not last that long. 🥴 A-Jay

  • Have to admit that I do enjoy seeing posts from folks who are sharing in a full-on winter experience. And not the kind that 'melts' by lunchtime. I will be sure to remind you of this again when you po

  • We've had a bit of a warm up and it's been raining on & off since early this morning. Best part is my shoveling efforts seemed to useful. Half my roof is bare and exposed. More snow is on the way

Funny you mention lake effect snow, our forecast for early next week calls for possible flurries due to lake effect snow out of the mid-west ... too early man

Our long range forecast for the winter was warmer than usual but wetter (snowier). That adds up to minimal ice on the lakes.

BRING IT ON!  I’m fishing through the winter.

We got a few flakes overnight here. Cold today, high around 30 and with the wind, they predict the wind-chill will struggle to get above 20.

Typically no snow around here. It's the Cow effect Work that gets us this time of year.😁

I have Tuesday off work so of course I’m planning to go fishing.  With the limited daylight, any time you get a full day available you take it right?

24 degrees at wake-up forecast.  39 for a high.  10-15 mph wind.  This will be the first cold cold day in the boat and man that’s a cold one.

North Central Arkansas has a carbon copy forecast of yours.  Went fishing yesterday, but I'm retired and no longer sadistic;  will wait a few days for the cold flash to move somewhere else.  I usually keep at it until sometime in December.

I also have Tuesday off and it’s 23 degree low….. sounds like the wife is dragging me fly fishing so I can at least have a flask of warm scotch in my waders

We got our first dusting overnight. There's a little more on the way. Might be muskie fishing in the snow today. High of 36, blowing 10-25. Fur hat day!!! The wife's gonna brave it for awhile this morning. I just ordered her a Striker Ice coat and bibs set yesterday. She says she's gonna fish through November with me this year. Gotta keep momma warm and safe.

No big's but we each caught one. 37" for her and a 38" for me. Both on the rig. On and off snow squalls all day, but the wind never got much over 15. We had a fun day. The big shad schools are starting to form. The offshore rig bite is fixin to go down soon!!!

My guide buddy took this pic of us at the launch this morning.

Got an inch or so yesterday. Glad I was able to get my garlic in the ground before the snow. I’m still hoping to get out on the boat on more time this year. Fishing in the snow is always fun and usually productive.

I bet nobody guessed the southern border of TN was the coldest place in the contiguous United States on Tuesday. It was 3 degrees with windchills as low as -20. 7.5 inches of snow

It's gonna be 65 degrees here today.

In terms of "winter", I've used my snowblower here a grand total of 4 times the past two years.  While I do think I'll probably end using it more frequently than that this winter, it seems like old man winter has become shorter and less harsh here as time passes.

The colder northwest flow often creates heavy amounts of lake-effect snow to our east across the Great Lakes region, but leaves very little snow here.  Our big snowmakers come from the Pacific, and then collide with Gulf air from the south.

we had a surprise squall come through yesterday.  It didn't put anything on the ground, but visibility went to nothing for about 10 minutes.  It was cool watching it swoop in from the northwest sitting at my desk.  The wind has been incredible the past 5 days (never less than 10 mph at any point in those 5 days) but it has calmed down a little now.  Tomorrow is looking bearable for a fishing trip so...

Reasonably mild here this morning, almost 50 degrees.

Heading out to put the finishing touches on leaf/yard cleanup before the first real and long-lasting dumping of snow that will inevitably be here any day now.

Admittedly, I do like it when the snow melts in the spring and the property is debris-free.

That’s because you keep sending your cold snow down here! Enough already 😂

70 today in SW Missouri. Gonna be mild for a while . Deer Hunters aren’t real happy

@TnRiver46 I seriously think you received more snow than I did the past two winters.

I feel you, brother. Winter is going to be brutal here this week. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we're supposed to have temperatures in the 80's! 😀
