We are having winter here.

Waves of snow day after day and daily high air temps in the teens.

I'll be clearing the property again tomorrow.

But all of this is so good for all things.

They keep telling me it's going to end eventually. But I'm really concerned that my Qualude stash might not last that long. 🥴 A-Jay

  • Have to admit that I do enjoy seeing posts from folks who are sharing in a full-on winter experience. And not the kind that 'melts' by lunchtime. I will be sure to remind you of this again when you po

  • We've had a bit of a warm up and it's been raining on & off since early this morning. Best part is my shoveling efforts seemed to useful. Half my roof is bare and exposed. More snow is on the way

We’ve gotten around another 5” and this stuff is heavy wet snow. On top of that we also got some drizzle and now the temps have fallen. Second day of not going into work and first snow day for 6poundbass.

@Glenn- send it over here.  We are feet low on rain accumulation over the past 12 months.  One lake is 25' low.  The one I fished sunday is 10+' low.  The ground is dry (I don't hate that for the dog yard).  The air is dry (20-25% humidity).  It is almost like a desert here with nothing on the horizon.

And I know you will, but stay safe.

I got out and back home just fine.  There's some standing water in places, but the route I took was along higher ground too.  There's a lot of flooding all over the state; and flood watches/warnings have been extended through the weekend already.

Aaaaand now the wind is getting strong.  Saturated soils + High winds = downed trees and power outages.  Usually we get this stuff in November.  Mother Nature is running late!

The good news?  It is unseasonably warm....feels like spring.

The flooding is bad.  Real bad.  The worst I've seen in many decades.  I'm safe, but I feel for the people who have lost everything.  But thankfully no lives have been lost (yet).

MANY roads are closed, including primary highways and interstates, due to mudslides and washed out roads.

And now there are flash flood warnings because dikes and levees may fail.  More rain is coming. It just keeps getting worse.  I think we'll have about 30 inches in 5-6 days once this is over.

It’s a La Niña year and is supposed to be a moderate temperature (read above normal) and more rain here in the northeast. It’s been nothing but cold. And when we do get normal temps for this time of year, it’s been windy and rain.

@Glenn stay safe, man

Wow, that is a lot of rain.  Like Hurricane-level rain fall.

The highs here this weekend may not be above zero degrees.  Lovely.

The flooding is at ridiculous levels.  This morning they had an emergency evacuation of a CITY of 10,000 people!  Levees and dikes are stressed, overrun, and some are failing.  Many smaller towns are under water.

One town, while not flooded, has lost their sewer, power, water, and gas lines - all destroyed by raging waters.  They are isolated.

Many roads are washed out, damaged, bridges gone, some roads are just gone.  It's going take a long time to fix everything.

Fortunately, the rain has stopped for today and most of tomorrow before it returns.  So we're getting a little relief.

I've been getting so many flood warnings on my phone extending the previous warnings, that the last blast of warnings just said the warnings "Remain in effect until further notice"

I'm safe and dry, but a chunk of the city just 1 1/2 miles north of me had their freshwater main wash away where it crosses a river.  They're now on a "boil water" mandate.

My neighbor's WX station clocked 52mph winds and measured 5 1/2" of rain in last 3 days.  Less than many areas around us.

The next storm will hit Monday.

Stay Safe @Glenn

Such devastation with zero warning is frightening.

Keep your head above water....maybe wear your life vest at all times? Seriously, good luck and be safe.

Stay safe @Glenn!  What bit of Washington are you in?  We drove from Seattle to the border islands last year and that looks like the area being hammered right now.  I remember what it looks like and I can’t imagine what that many inches of rain would do to that area.  The streams and are are all wide and flat so the flooding has to be extensive.

That's definitely the stretch that took the worst of it, however it's relative.  The devastation is statewide, both east and west.

I'm in the mountain foothills, near 2 rivers that are flooding at historic levels.  I'm at the top of the tallest hill in the area, so I'm safe.

We had 2 mostly dry days, so you'd think the water would recede.  Instead, levees and dikes failed, prompting more road closures and emergency evacuations.  And now the heavy rains are back, this time packing high winds too.

The destruction is very widespread.  Flooding and washed out roads are everywhere statewide and into Idaho, Oregon, and western Montana.  Two of the three main highway passes are shutdown for miles and miles.  The roads are too damaged and washed away to assess when they'll re-open.  Mudslides and flooding cover the roads that weren't washed out.

More rain today and tomorrow plus 50+ mph winds mean more flooding, landslides, and power outages.

On the plus side, it's in the mid-60s today.  Absolutely bizarre on a December day.

I've been following the flooding in the Pacific Northwest.  Its catastrophic.

The phenomenon is referred to as an Atmospheric River.  It's a narrow band of moisture that starts in the Pacific Ocean and dumps copious amounts of rain along the coast where it makes landfall.

  • BassResource.com Administrator

Yep, it's like a firehose.  We get a few of them each year.  This is one of those that begins well SW of Hawaii, and then shoots straight at us.  We call those a "pineapple express".  That's also why we have all the warm temps along with the rain.

  • BassResource.com Administrator

Nothing in this picture should have water.

Flooding photo taken from a plane.

But more levees and dikes have failed, prompting emergency evacuations.  This is but one very small snapshot.

This is pretty common sight around the state.  This is one of the 3 mountain pass highways.  It has multiple locations like this.  Other highways have similar damage, plus mudslides.  Clearly, not a fast fix.

This is the other mountain highway that's closed for approx 50 miles "for months":

50-70mph winds with higher gusts are on tonight's menu.  Glad I have a generator.

That is a horrific scene 😳

I am praying for all those who live there. Stay safe.

  • BassResource.com Administrator

That's just a small sample.  There's really no way to capture all the devastation.

Here's another road. I don't even know where it is or what road it is.  It's just another washed out road. There's dozens and dozens of them.

No photo description available.

And the rain is still coming down, winds are picking up.  I expect a ton of downed trees, power outages, and blocked roadways.

May be an image of text that says 'CAUTION HIGH WINDS DAMAGING WINDS UP TO 70 MPH WASHINGTON ACROSS'

Oh and get this, now they're saying blizzard conditions on the mountains later this week - up to 100" of snow by Sunday!   That also means much more rain in the flooded areas.

This is just nutz.

  • BassResource.com Administrator

So.....this is along JUST ONE ROAD, a pass road.  Scenes like this are everywhere....
