They keep telling me it's going to end eventually. But I'm really concerned that my Qualude stash might not last that long. 🥴 A-Jay

  • Have to admit that I do enjoy seeing posts from folks who are sharing in a full-on winter experience. And not the kind that 'melts' by lunchtime. I will be sure to remind you of this again when you po

Heading out now to hook up the plow.

We're looking at 12-18" with single digit temps.

^ I'll take the snow if you take our temp - currently it's -21 with a wind chill of -38....and I have to go out in it for a Dr. Appt.

We've had an unusually dry and warm 2 weeks here. Forecasted to be sunny and 45 today. Low 50's by this weekend. This is January, right?

According to the weather forecast for middle Tennessee, this could be the end. 🫢

I think I'll wait a bit before clearing away the dumping of snow we got last night.

We're under an Ice warning. Freezing rain from tomorrow afternoon until late Sunday night. I detest Winter as a rule but an Ice storm with possible outages simply sucks. We shall see. (FN1)

FN1: yes I know 2" of Ice might not be a big deal to folks up North. But in the South it shuts everything down.

Edit: to the folks in the negative numbers for the highs and lows, I feel for you. I truly can't imagine.

We're looking at some good snow this weekend ... 16-20". Looks like another 'real' New England winter.

2” of ice no matter where you are is going to shut everything down and cause catastrophic damage. We get a chuckle over you southerners about the snow, but ice is no joke.

Stay safe down there and hopefully the weather man is wrong.

Agreed, ice is ice regardless of where it falls and is exponentially worse than snow.

I heard on the radio this morning that just 0.5 inches of ice on a power line adds 500 pounds of weight to it between poles. That's a lot of weight for something not really designed for it. Now multiply it by 4 if there's 2 inches of ice.

The other thing is, it's not going to immediately warm back up everywhere the day afterwards either.

The house I currently live in, bought in 2022, has underground power lines. I detest aerial versions. My last house had aerial ones and I would lose power about once a year due to a storm.

For us up here they do design them to handle some ice, but not much. Down south, doubtful. They get maxed out with ice then the trees and limbs start coming down in the already maxed out lines and poles.

@A-Jay what’s that end up looking like?

I’ll take crazy lows and feet of snows over a half inch of ice any day. You just can’t do anything with ice and it breaks EVERYTHING.

This might give some idea of what 3 days of Ice can do.

I actually saw a guy at my son’s football games last year and he had on a sweatshirt on, I forget what it said exactly, but I knew he was up there working on your power lines. I thanked him of course. I’m in utilities, but only do natural gas, so those guys sacrifice a ton to help everyone out.

No snow here in Omaha, but was a chilly morning of -6, -24 windchill.

Friend of mine shot video of fresh beds last week. 5" of snow coming Sunday. Fish will be as confused as I am.

Just waiting on the storm to hit. Just hoping I don't lose power. 9 degrees right now with windchill -2degrees

A bit colder this morning. 🥶IMG_5265.jpeg

Nice ~ about the same up here too.

You know we joke about this, and it's not really funny.

But what else are we going to do?

Complaining doesn't seem to help.

And man, I've tried.

Just ask my dogs . . . .

At those temps it should be too cold to snow. That’s just not fair.

It was 3 here as the sun was coming up and the wind was a solid 15-20 so I think that works out to something minus single digits wind chill. Our bathroom off the bedroom is always chilly because I don’t think there is a good heater vent supplying it. But i never knew how drafty the windows were until I just saw frost on the inside. A line of ice right above the joint on the upper pane. I think i need to inspect the seals a little better.

Meanwhile, it is single digits humidity inside overnight. I’ve been boiling water on the stove like it’s a Victorian birthing hospital. About a half gallon per hour out of a 3 gallon stock pot. After an hour or so it is tolerable and after 3 hours it’s up to normal. Lather, rinse, repeat every day.

Man I can’t wait until this winter stuff is done.

It’s amazing to think that it’s 70° here inside my house and that on the other side of my window, it’s cold enough to kill.

It's a balmy 0 degrees here this afternoon. Shockingly, when I let the dog out a while ago, it didn't feel that cold out lol.
