Hello and Welcome back to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay

Crazy weather lately???
Here too, still hate it though. The Mid-May dumping is still hanging over us . . . Our Malamutes aren't really blowing their under coats much so far either. And could be a very bad sign . . . A-Jay

Moon phase fishing
I logged it and 'lived' by the lunar phases fishing both salt & sweet water for Years. Had some great trips on every phase of it. Had some horrid trips on every phase of it. I still 'watch it' but not nearly as religiously as in the past. This is what I've taken from it all. First - night fishing for bass I always do better with a new moon - so dark nights. Even if the moon bright but obscured by cloud cover, it's better than full moon for me. Now giving a choice, I would prefer to fish daylight hours in & around the Full or even the new moon. But I go regardless when the weather's right. Also, there's may be some magic thing that happens when sunset & moon rise are close to the same time or moon set & sun rise are close together; had some silly good bites happen . . . . Finally, The standard three days before & after a full and new moon, drive the calendar selection dates for every trip south of the border that we make. And that's worked out OK - especially in Oct 2018. That was crazy ! YMMV A-Jay

What Y'all Doing
I have had only limited success with the Harpoon, a lot of swing & misses. BUT I would never discount the experience of a professional like yourself - Clearly my lack of varmint knowledge & experience plays a significant role. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it. I am heading to set a few right now - I'm under attack ! A-Jay (Hi-Jack over)

Out of line ?
Nope. And while I post pic & videos of my catches all over - every lake I fish is Lake Menderchuck. A fictional name. Something I started doing as a joke a while ago and have since just kept it going. Guys have recognized some spots on occasion and others have reached out to me rather bummed out that they can't 'find' it on a map anywhere. When I tell them it's a ruse, some laugh, others get pretty indignant. I have since 'shrunk' my bass fishing social foot print considerably to just BR, my FB page & YouTube channel, just for this reason. A-Jay

Black Rings
While not completely sure if this is what you're referring to but The Groove Ring has become a popular item. https://groovelife.com/pages/shop-men Seems they get between $30 -$60 bucks for something close to what we got for a nickle as kids out of a gum ball machine . . But it's all good. A-Jay

Reels Depreciating in value
That's a very interesting financial decision. Perhaps consider selling them for the $125 or $150, and place the money in a box in the attic. Because unlike the cold hard cash you could get for them, whatever it may be, the longer the reels are up there, the Less they are worth. Good Luck A-Jay

What Do You Bring For Lunch on the Water?
I make it a priority to 'eat on schedule', whether I'm fishing or on the road to & from the lake. It's important to me, so I always pack chow & water; in the truck and in the boat. Probably a bit over the top with it, but that's what it takes for me to meet my own goals. As for what I bring: it's usually whatever type of baked or grilled chicken/turkey and vegetables I'm working on at home, in a couple of flat breads / wraps. May include a cliff bar or two as well. And as an OG, portion control goes a long way to helping to keep me lean. Either way, gotta put gas in the tank to keep the engine running. #fitforlife A-Jay

Reels Depreciating in value
My thoughts are ~ The best way for any piece of equipment to 'holds it value', is to provide me long, dependable, high quality service. Additionally, it must be able to endure the repeated dis-assembly/re-assembly that is required by routine maintenance/service. As an extra bonus, it's always nice when a manufacturer continues to carry and make available, parts for the reel long after it's born on date. After I've purchased anything (including a reel) and used it for any length of time, if I choose to sell it, I never expect to recover anything close to MSRP $$. I have purchased a few 'pre-owned reels' over the years, many right from the BR flea market forum. I'm still using several of them to this day. I knew what I was getting and paid less than 50% of MSRP, regardless of how 'new' they were. If I need to shell out more than that, I'll buy a new one with a warranty. That's just me. YMMV A-Jay

Dead sticking
To Dead stick a bait to me means to cast it out and let it sit, with ZERO angler input. Can be on the surface, somewhere in the middle of the water column (using a slip bobber), of perhaps more commonly, on the bottom. It's not a presentation I use very often, not that it doesn't get bites, but more that most days I just don't have the patience. Much rather chunk & wind. However there are a few times where I do utilize it, mostly as a last resort. Off the top of my head, here's an example of each of the above. In flat calm sunny clear water deals, I will dead stick a popper for several minutes between single pops for late summer & early fall smallies. In the same conditions mentioned above, I'll dead stick a stick bait under a slip float down 10-15 over much deeper water for smallies. And finally, I will often dead stick my drop shot presentation, so I'm fishing it as if it were live bait. Cast it out and and let it soak . . . and soak . . . and soak. A-Jay

Any other musky/pike nuts here?
The majority of the medium to large lakes in & around my neck of the woods, have a decent population of very respectably sized Pike and or Musky. I do bass fish a good percentage of the time, fish these most fertile waters enough and you're bound to bump into them. I too think they are just very cool and enjoy catching them, sometimes when we least expect them. Accordingly, I fish with a decent trace of wire much of the time. Helps me keep my baits but also assists in having a better chance of landing one of these toothy beasts. Admittedly smaller pike can be a nuisance at times, tearing up baits, catching the larger more robust versions of both is always a rush. I don't land them all but have been fortunate enough to hold a fair number. A-Jay
