When properly sized & fitted, an inflated life jacket is on your chest. That 28 lbs of buoyancy is designed to overcome even the largest of humans. If you've not tried it - blow one up and try to float on your face. It's going to surprise you. A-Jay

A-Jay's Inaugural Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
At this point so much of it feels like a dream. But in about 2 months and 9 Days or 9 weeks and 5 days or 68 more days, I'll be looking to turn it all back into reality. #needopenwater A-Jay

Everyone's favorite topic- Lure Retrievers
I use a Super Stick (push pole) for anything within 12 ft or so. Beyond that, I use a fairly simple home made job that's been surprisingly effective. A-Jay

Is rod sensitivity more about feeling bites or feeling bottom/structure?
What interesting thread. To the OP @The Maestro "Is rod sensitivity more about feeling bites or feeling bottom/structure?" "I guess my question is do you think I'd detect more bites with the most sensitive rods available?" Fairly difficult to know what You can detect regardless of what price point stick you happen to be fishing. That's one you'll have to answer yourself; no way around it. Interestingly enough, I have no idea how many bites I'm missing, because I never "detected" them in the first place. What I do know is this; When it comes to gear, I use middle of the road (mostly) as far as price point goes. Many of the bites/strikes I feel, I get. But I still miss at least my share. Can't speak for others. I'm usually pretty happy to be able to feel & decipher most of whatever I happened to be fishing. Finally, I Really Hate it when I get a little snagged on something on the bottom, and then it pulls back ! A-Jay

Bass Pro Tour Live kick off
Seems like it's going to be lower. But does it matter ? Is that what these derbies are about ? Of course they could bump up the 'score-able' bass requirements or make some stipulation where a 2 or 3 pound fish was required every period before any smaller or 1 lb fish could count. Can't decide if that would make it any 'better' though. I did enjoy this one either way - and J Lee is a freak ! A-Jay

Diverticulitis
Glad to hear it - Hope it continues to go well for you. I share a very similar experience - you can get it back - just takes time. Slow & steady will ensure no hiccups along the way. Work closely with you MD as you transition off pain Meds. It's a serious aspect of recovery and one that should not be taken for granted. Some people get themselves in trouble here. Good Luck A-Jay

Top 3 PRE-SPAWN techniques
Early spring – I’m looking in the N section of the lake first – want the sun on it – perhaps dark(er) bottom color to absorb the sunlight and warm up faster. Doesn’t necessarily need to be a colored bottom but the smallies I'm usually hunting, stick out like a sore thumb over sand sometimes so the colored bottom seems to help with that. Locations, could be the E side or the W – but S is the Last place I’m going. Any ‘inlets’ – or little creeks could influence my choice – fish like to hang out in front of them early. Jerkbaits & Crankbaits - worked deep to shallow. Small Swimbait - crawled on the bottom - worked deep to shallow Jigs - Including Hair - worked deep to shallow. Did I mention I like to work from deep to shallow ? A-Jay

Strong Points and Weak Points
I do not have the opportunity to do much 'punching' through super thick surface stuff to access fish. Just not much of that type of cover here. As a result, the few times I in counter this deal - I often struggle to feel like I'm being as effective with my presentation as I could be. Plus - I'm rarely whacking them much do it. But I'm working on it. Skipping a bait (any bait) is still a work in progress for me. The anglers who have it mastered certainly make it look easy. However, I don't fish much shoreline cover - so I'm not really looking to do it a whole lot. The vast majority of my angling occurs on or near off shore structure. It's been that way for a while and I really do enjoy 'the hunt'. Keeps me any from 'the crowd' (relative term) and usually offers me the best opportunity to catch the bigger adult brown bass I'm most often in search of. So if I had any strengths - anything associated with this, would be it. I'm also at least average when it comes to driving a boat. A-Jay
