Every day we have plenty of opportunities to get angry, stressed or offended. But when we indulge these negative emotions we are giving something outside of ourselves power over our happiness. We can choose to not let little things upset us. Every minute we're angry, we give up sixty seconds of peace of mind. The best speeches I've ever regretted, were made when angry. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
I never stay on the same workout for more than 5 or 6 weeks. So it’s time to change it up. Going to a workout that I’ll use again this summer – Total Body. It fits my schedule (insert allows me to fish & workout without missing too much of either, always a challenge for me). I'll train Day On / Day Off . Routinely it's one exercise per body part. Usually 3 working sets for larger muscles groups and 2 sets for smaller. Something around 20 - 25 sets total is about as high as I want to go here. I move from exercise to exercise with little to no rest. Looking to keep the training session short & intense; 60-70 minutes is good for me. First few workouts may take a little longer as I acclimate to the faster pace – but keeping it as brief as I can is always the goal. I can either train long or I can train hard – can’t do both. A-Jay

Beans & a Blindfold (Joke)
During lunch at work, I ate 3 plates of beans (which I know I shouldn't). When I got home, my husband seemed excited to see me and exclaimed delightedly, "Darling I have a surprise for dinner tonight." He then blindfolded me and led me to my chair at the dinner table. I took a seat and just as he was about to remove my blindfold, the telephone rang. He made me promise not to touch the blindfold until he returned and went to answer the call. The beans I had consumed were still affecting me and the pressure was becoming unbearable, so while my husband was out of the room I seized the opportunity, shifted my weight to one leg and let one go. It was not only loud, but it smelled like a fertilizer truck running over a skunk in front of a garbage dump! I took my napkin from my lap and fanned the air around me vigorously. Then, shifting to the other leg, I ripped off three more. The stink was worse than cooked cabbage. Keeping my ears carefully tuned to the conversation in the other room, I went on releasing atomic bombs like this for another few minutes. The pleasure was indescribable! Eventually the telephone farewells signaled the end of my freedom, so I quickly fanned the air a few more times with my napkin, placed it on my lap and folded my hands back on it feeling very relieved and pleased with myself. My face must have been the picture of innocence when my husband returned, apologizing for taking so long. He asked me if I had peaked through the blindfold, and I assured him I had not. At this point, he removed the blindfold, and twelve dinner guests seated around the table, with their hands to their noses, chorused, "Happy Birthday!" ? A-Jay

Lake Baccarac Lodge In Mexico
Just secured my flights for the next one this fall. Way early booking usually offers reasonable flight times, shorter layovers, more desirable seating and a decent $$$. Managed most all of that this time. Choosing to give up some of the local prime time brown bass period on this one. Looking to fish the full moon and hopefully tip the scales in my favor for a new PB green bass. Either way, the chit just got real. A-Jay

Tipping a Guide
I use a guide once or sometimes twice a year, for 5-7 day trips. I generally tip at the end of the trip; after the last day. Tip amount varies and is never predicated on how big or how many fish are caught. In fact seems to be just the opposite. The less we catch, the harder the guide is working to put us on fish-so he's rewarded for his efforts. When the fishing's awesome, which is fairly often, he seems to do pretty good then too . . . . . Could be any of the following ~ Wrong Place (or Depth) Wrong Time Wrong Technique Individually or perhaps a combination of one, two or even all three. We call that 'The Trifecta'. A-Jay

Any Weight Lifters Here?
Seems, that just like bass fishing, common knowledge means something different to each of us. 9-12 is an excellent, healthy and reasonably maintainable percentage IMO. So much changes as we age, the ability, willingness and desire to keep training, gets even more challenging. The concept of 'What's the point ?' starts to raise it's ugly head. Been at this for a long time and I don't look much like I did in my 30s and 40s. Abilities wane, desire fades and self motivation becomes many times harder. Looking back, seems I was at my best when I was happy. I use this mantra today to help keep me grounded. A-Jay
