  1. Some Real Fatties ~ Congrats A-Jay
  2. @Senko lover ~ September 29, 2014. You reap what you sow my friend. A-Jay
  3. Since posting this - MI C & R for bass has been opened up to all season. As soon as the ice is out here - I'll be doing this again. A-Jay
  4. Feathered trebles for me is often restricted to topwater baits. Generally don't care for them on jerkbaits; acts like a parachute. Slows the action quite a bit. Now I know there are times where that's a good thing, but the feathers seem to numb that sweet & subtle 'roll' right before the pause, (which is when the magic happens) and that's not a good thing in my book. Feathers do seems to work quite well for the walleye & pike. Although both are great eating, the higher 'bite off' potential is a deal breaker. A-Jay
  5. I go up to a 4 on the front hook for sure - A 4 or 6 on the back - prefer to use the 4. Going plus size calls for short shank trebles irregardless. Working through wood seams about the same for me with either the 4 or 6 size hook; not great but not bad. But the hook up & land ratio is better for me. A-Jay
  6. Whatever they are - funny thing is, I'm not a fan. I replace Every One right out of the box. My 'collection' of new, replaced OE stock trebles, is at this point, pretty ridiculous. Need to re-home them at some point I suppose. A-Jay
  7. In a sport that can so easily & quickly get seriously complicated, it's often be the simplest of principles that yields the best results. A-Jay

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay
  9. I just corrected my typo - thanks for looking out @deep As for "not being Katsuage trebles" - Perhaps, but I can only go by what they advertise and they are pretty darn close. I've not noticed a different in performance. "The same hooks that come standard on all Megabass Jerkbaits, the Megabass Katsuage Out Barb Treble Hooks are manufactured to the highest standards and feature a sticky-sharp design specifically engineered for finicky strikes. The Katsuage Treble Hooks are built with a light-wire that allows for instant hook penetration, and also reduces extra weight to keep your baits perfectly balanced." A-Jay
  10. While I can't speak for all of them, many manufacturers (Strike King, Lucky Craft & Megabass for instance) document hook sizes with the bait descriptions on their websites. 11. That rig is a Shimano Calcutta 200D spooled with 15 lb InvisX Flourocarbon, mounted on a 7'4" Quantum Tour KVD Med Hvy Moderate Cranking Rod. I was throwing a loaded 1/2 Megastrike Skrikeback spinnerbait (bait ends up weight close to 3/4 oz). Love how these composite rods Load Up & Launch a cast. If you like 'chunking & winding' like I do - it's addicting. Hooksets are fun too. A-Jay
  12. I've never actually stepped off or measured my casts. But I'm a Rock Star with the wind at my back . . . . A-Jay
  13. You're Welcome. And whatever you do Do Not put a RED Mustad KVD Elite 1X Strong 2X Short Shank Treble on the front. You might get your arm broke. A-Jay
  14. Unless you plan on winning a distance casting contest it may not matter much. What does matter is if you're able to present your bait far enough & accurately enough to get bite. If so, you're good. If not, one or both will need to improve until you do. Finally, rather than ripping off super casts, I've found it advantageous to be able to place my baits exactly where I wanted to inside of 30 or 40 FEET. Bomb casts have their place in bass fishing but it may be a mistake to allow one's accuracy to suffer while doing it. A-Jay
  15. Megabass Katsuage Out Barb Treble Hooks OE is size 8 - I like size 6 Gamakatsu EWG Treble Short Shank Magic Eye size 6 And one I'm using for the first time this season on a few jerk, crank & topwater baits is the Owner Short Shank Treble Hook ST-35 (also size 6). This treble hook features Owner’s 150-degree Premium Point Position design, which splits two hook points out 150-degrees versus the typical 120-degrees between all three points. This allows the hook points to be positioned slightly farther out from your bait and help increase your hook up percentage. Opening the gap to 150-degrees also minimizes damage to your bait from the hook points, while keeping the hook points sharper over time as well. Equipped with sticky sharp Super Needle Points and Owner’s Silky Gray frictionless finish, the Owner Stinger ST-35 Short Shank Treble Hooks deliver faster hook penetration on top of their improved hook up ratio. May not be the deal for a tail hook but seems to have quite a bit of potential 'under the bait'. A-Jay
  16. Keeping it real. Anxiously waiting your coherent group of tested general propositions. A-Jay

Thanks for the kind words - However, I have to admit that I 'borrowed' most all of that from their web page. Wanted to make sure I had it right. Either way - the results speak for themselves. A-Jay
  20. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Congrats on the new rig. A-Jay
  21. That's a super rod for searching open water with big spinnerbaits. It’s also ideal for jigs, worms and working heavy cover. Also excels when presenting heavier hook swimjigs & paddletail swimbaits. A-Jay

  23. Over the years, I superscribed to many theories. As my fishing (for several species including bass) has evolved, I have come to believe that one theory in particular has quite a bit of merit. Additionally this theory often improves the chances of some of my 'other theories' actually working out. Fishing in bodies of water that hold numbers of above average fish, improves the opportunity to routinely catch above average fish. That's my theory, and I'm stick'in to it. A-Jay
