Our retirement boat
I hear ya Jim ~ And I can certainly relate as my better half (and I really mean that) and favorite fishing partner is a 100% disabled Veteran. As for pulling the trigger or not on the new boat - There may not ever be a 'right' time - just days gone by that we'll never get back. Understanding that tomorrow's not guaranteed to any of us might make this a good time to live for today. btw - I snagged a new rig last spring - knowing full well my opportunities to get out in it may me limited, but I went for it. SO glad I did. Best of Luck to you & yours moving forward. A-Jay

"Hey Redline, hold my beer"
What was the plan there exactly ? Perhaps he wanted to be . . Gored in the eye Gored in the femoral or brachial artery Gored in the jugular vein Gored in one or both lungs - nothing like a sucking chest wound Gored straight in the heart . . . . At the very least, take a high speed hoof to the stones And people are crazy. A-Jay

Favorite time of Year
That’s a pretty tough call for me. While the newness of the spring & the excitement of the pre-spawn bite can and often does lead to some of the biggest bass of the season, there’s just something very special about the fall. Perhaps it’s the refreshing cool air, the intoxicating colors everywhere I look, the lack of biting insects, the lakes get quiet again and then there’s the fishing. Man, I’ve had some dream like days on the water in the fall; especially recently. And knowing that it’s all coming to a rapid end, and that hard water is just around the corner, seems to make each & every autumn trip that much more special . . . . A-Jay

Ultra shallow/subsurface crankbait
Check out the Rapala X-Rap Sub Walk ~ It's a very subtle, silent, suspending sub-surface bait that runs less the 18 - 24 inches. It has a sweet hunting mode and a devastating 'roll' on the pause. I fish it like a jerkbait and it works all season long. I've mentioned it before but it's a true sleeper. The color shown is called Moss Back Shiner and it's the Only one I throw - if that means anything. A-Jay

Who uses a Boat Cover?
Set this up yesterday before heading in as a display for another BR member. Support Posts under the cover to help it up & over the consoles and pool noodles on the wind screens to protect them & the cover ~ And before you ask, yes I did stow it before the ride back to the ramp. A-Jay

Favorite Spinnerbaits?
I've been taking fish with the Megastrike Strikeback spinnerbait now for going on 3 seasons; mostly smallmouth and the occasional oversized pike. Can't say if the hook up ratio is truly 'better' than traditional baits or not. But I can tell you that I do fish a couple of other brands of spinnerbaits. The Strikeback is the only one I never use or feel the need to add a trailer hook as I rarely miss or lose fish with it tied on. YMMV A-Jay

Better to be a specialist or a generalist?
Interesting premise ~ I'll say I am perhaps a bit of both. Time on the water has afforded me General knowledge & experience in seasonal patterns, bait life cycle & location, as well as various techniques & presentations. If there is any specialist floating around in there, it's centered around boat operation, safety, liking hard work & most importantly - desire. Don't always get them, but this helps me sack a few now & then. A-Jay
