  1. wow. what do you call that when you get two monster fish in the same day?. That woulda made my year in ny! awesome job buddy! t
  2. 25% of the time i like fishing with my dad. id rather have more but time restraints restrict that. 40% with my other fishing buddy. usually on a boat. and the other 35% i need to fish by my self. it helps me relax and not worry about outfishing the other guy. i also like to focus stricly on the rod and whats on the other end ;D trav
  3. ya it was extremely peaceful just me, my dad, the wind rain and the fish. usually there are about 15-30 people walking the area for exercise. they were all at home. Yes it was awesome that i went!!!! thanks for the peer pressure!
  4. Hey fellas, I made a post a few days ago about fishing in the rain and wether to do it or not because of the air temp and weather conditions...but after some peer pressure I decide to go. Arrived at the spot at around 10 am and started fishing a crank bait. caught my second crankbait fish ever within the first 5 cast. It was only about 8 inches but still awesome. i decided i was gonna be stubborn and commit to two techniques-1- Cranking with a small sexy shad and 2- pitching a carolina rigged baby brush hog. The wind was blowin at 10mph and it was drizzling on and off. After an hour and change i decided to change to the brush hog. (I never caught a fish on a brush hog thus the stubborness to commit) I took a temp reading of the water with the thermometer i finally remembered to bring and it was at 50 degrees i knew they would be active more than they were the past few weeks but wasnt sure how to catch them. Smeared some MEGASTRIKE i got for free from Bobby at the North Rockland show and within 5 casts caught my first fish on that brush hog! another 30 minutes went by and my dad showed up with the new spinning rig i got him for his bday(bps extreme M-spinning and the johnny morris reel). he caught a 12 inch fish with a mini jig withing a few minutes and that was awesome. i walked 15 yards closer to him then i just made a small lob cast near some big brush piles. Within a second of the rig hittin the water the line started to move so i reeled in the slack with my new citica and slammed the hook home! Immediately i knew i had a heavy pig ;D I felt a few big headshakes and then i started screamin like iaconelli ;D ITS A GIANT! and told my pops to get the net. I never have brought a net with my in my life while fishing and my dad didnt have a clue what ithe heck i was talking about. i was delirious! This slab started going left and right and into the brush and all around. I was using 12lb yozuri ultra soft to the swivel and 8lb pline flouroclear to the hook so i was worried about the 8lb once the fish was wrapped up in the trees. with some constant pressure the fish worked itself out as i directed the fish. After another minute of courting her i liped her and hollered! As i ran up the bank i gave my dad my cell phone to take a quick picture. As i had the fish in one hand, rod in another i decided the smartest way to take off my jacket for the picture was to use my teeth on the sleeve. I was so rushed to take the pic and get the fish back in the water i yanked my sleeve and my front tooth popped out!!!!! i had a gotten some work done on my two front teeth from an accident a few years back and sure enough it popped out into the grass. you can imagine me standing there with fish rod and half a jacket on with one TOOTH! i was cursing and laughing galore. HAHA. My dad took the pic(no smile) weighed it out at 6lbs even. and back she went. Afterwards i was still rattled and the best part about Catching the second biggest bass and losing my tooth was that my dad was with me ! by the way i have an appointment tommorow and the tooth in the tackle box hahaha. hope this was a good read and heres the fish Trav
  5. Hey boys, i was using a series 3 sexy shad crankbait which i did catch my first bass of the season on. i also caught my first fish on a bait caster AND a crankbait so i was pumped. but after a while when i would pause the crankbait on slack line the line would often get tangled on the front hook. so i pulled the crank in and watched what it did on slack line. when i would give it slack line it would would start to rise from whatever depth as well as starting to spin like a tornado(best way to describe it) I am thinking maybe i need to tune it? or is it common to have a crankbait spin on you with slack line > :-? thanks, Trav
  6. its gonna be a high of 52 tomorrow and its sposed to rain all day. not sure itll be worth it to go fishing. havent gone in a few days though DO you fish if you know its going to rain? What tactics do you use and lures during the rain? Probably season is still the winter pre spawn. Trav
  7. maybe a ripping crankbait nippin the bottom and off of some underwater points?
  8. when would u want to use a 6 ft rod? all of mine are 6'6 or 7...?
  9. is that a mh or medium ? wish it was in two piece!!!
  10. im guessin raul just slows it down? id go with some senkos and dragging a carolina rig with a floating worm. how deep are you fishing? trav
  11. hey boys, thinking of getting a new jig and worm setup. i already have a medium bps extreme for light worms and what not so im lookin at something for around 5/16 to 1 ounce for jigs and big worms. im leaning towards a mh 6'6? or do u boys prefer a 6 or 7'? im also lookin at getting another baitcaster and using braided line with a flouro tippet anyone do that? i think itd be a good idea? well as usual help a brother out! trav
  12. im currently using 8# p line in flouroclear. so far its working good overall. im not sure how much of a difference the line diameter is. im sure its very minimal but if it is enough of a difference for the fish what would you do? haha i love the 6lb test . but if u get a big fish in any structure watch out! what i like to do is if im not getting a bite at all ill drop a size so if u get an 8 and a 6 u can experiment just buy using another spool hope this helps. trav
  13. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2667656 im lookin at this one too. id like to try it on before i bought it. hopefully the local dicks sporting goods will have it. especially if i use my majic coupon! thanks fellas trav
  14. hey herdoc thanks i like that versipak in the od green might have to get that for my BDAY thanks fellas
  15. MAKE SURE U GET THE COUPON. im throwing the link up to help u fellows out. if you spend 50 bucks at dicks you can use this coupon and take ten bucks off. so say u bought 10 spinner baits at 4.50 each and the total comes to 50.08 with the tax now u spent only 40.08!!! makes it worth wild to have a heads up about what you want to buy. and dicks always has great deals well enjoy. and i hope the bait monkey doesnt get mad at me!!! trav http://dcsg.qualtrics.com/SE/?u1=851764-2-0-&SID=SV_eLP5EFgl3Wn7PTK&SVID=Prod
  16. i loveeeee texas rigging a super fluke jr with a 3/0 ewg gama. ive had HUGE Success with useing a shad color with a red hook. i also tie in a swivel about a foot or so about the fluke. helps with the weight to get it down and with line twist. not sure if it was mentioned about the barrel swivel or not. i also have been recently trying it on a drop shot rig. hope this gives u some ideas. and i dont think theres a wrong way to rig it just like a worm!!! trav
  17. ive never really used the gulp to give it a full critique but ive had some experience with the gulp worms and i never really liked em cause of the smell. Brings me to my point about confidence. if there is one thing i have learned from others and my own experience is that if i feel there is one little thing wrong with the bait i wont give it the time to work it right. i like the tupperware idea which i could see workin. I did leave a pack of gulp worms in my trunk over the summer and they MELTED TOGETHER. hahah never had that happen with anything else. but i am dieing to try the smelt pattern and the goby pattern for smallies t
  18. Hey fellas trav here again. i got that okeochobbe fats bag the smaller one and realized its too d**n heavy to walk around the pond with cause im carrying the bait monkey in IT!!!! so i want to get a semi kool looking fanny bag to carry some tackle in likes some hooks and weights and some plastics maybe a water bottle . i thought i saw one like that. well let me know what you guys who walk the ponds use or recommend trav
  19. not too bust your chops but the fish in my avatar was 20.5 inches and 7.2lbs ;D so those calculations arent aaaaaaaaaaaaalways right bring a scale
  20. thanks paul and fellas i always appreciate your insight! the lake is about 150 acres pretty small compared to the big water but it goes 140 feet deep so theres tons of other fish in it. im gonna give it a few days and hit it up again this weekend with those strategies. and ill be sure to let u know what happens trage
  21. i graduated in 04' and now i teach in dutchess county and im currently fishing some local ponds/lakes here. im sorry u went to ithaca u shoulda came to cortland! hahaha those are some nice pigs u got there in ur pics trage
  22. paul to answer some of your questions- I believe they were in about 4-6 feet of water. it was really sunny and no wind! so it made it easy to see them and how do you know they are all females versus males? Would crankbaits work better when the water warms up moremaybe around 47 degrees at 10 feet?
  23. ya im gonna give some super finesse skills a shot tomorrow. thanks about the fish compliment . came out to be 7.2lbs and for ny thats great considering the record is 11 something. but the pic makes it look a little bigger too. nice fish u got there urself!
  24. was at the lake today in ny. the temp was around 39-40 degrees. sunny with a slight wind 5mph. in the morning theres wasnt any activity in the shallows or in the mid depths. couldnt find any fish nor catch any all day. then around 1 to 2 ish we wanted to see if any fish were in the 6-7 foot range of water and as i was trolling i saw a school of about ten 3-4lbers basking in the sun!!!! they were within a foot of one another. ive never seen anything like that they were just sitting on the bottom. as i cruised around i noticed more fish in open sand spots between the cabbage and lettucs just sitting on the bottom. so how should i attack the area to catch those sun bathers! i was throwing a fat free shad crank at them and ripping through but was getting caught every other cast and considering the temp they werent too eager to follow. it felt like the right approach but no hits. and they were spooky WHAT SHOULD I DO! t-rage
  25. i was thinking has anyone had any experiences with using a hyperdermic needle with their soft plastics for injecting anything from scents to air pockets ? i was thinking of trying to inject air to make certain worms float and so forth well let me know if im crazy trav
