No fishing for awhile
Yes it is Dwight, and 57% of California’s forest land is owned and managed by the federal government. It’s some of the comments and attitudes expressed in this thread and other threads about California in general that are disappointing. Something about glass houses…. I’m fortunate enough to live here in a state with great weather year round and is the 4th LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD. I’m pretty sure not too many people reading this aren’t aware that Californian taxpayers get roughly $1.00 back for every $10.00 we pay in federal taxes nor do/would they care. I know the almost 40 million residents of California will continue to work with what we have when catastrophic situations arise and answer the others call for help when it’s needed.

@IcatchDinks and @TnRiver46, I agree it’s difficult to tell between the two raptors. However I’m going to say it is a Cooper’s Hawk due to their having bigger talons and this guy was standing on one leg the couple of times he occupied that rock.

I don’t know @gim, either a Coopers or Sharp-shinned hawk. But I’m confident I can rule out an Osprey since it didn’t have a fish in its talons.

This guy’s sporadic visits might be reason why the resident mourning dove population hasn’t been visiting our pool/ local bird water hole lately. I was sitting at the kitchen table when he arrived to scope things out and was fortunate enough to get this picture.

Why are so many giant bass caught in winter?
@Darth-Baiter, February is the month to begin your quest and the Delta and Clear Lake should be at the top of your list unless you’re planning on going to Florida or Texas.

I have target fish.. I dont think I have "trash" fish.
@pdxfisher, isn’t Oregon and Washington still paying a bounty on them where individual anglers have been paid over 100K? *I didn’t see @Scott F’s post when I responded. However, it’s my understanding pike minnow do prey on salmon and steelhead smolts migrating towards the ocean.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
I had a pretty good day on the Delta starting off first thing in a still, calm morning and the beginning of an outgoing tide perfect for topwater and I alternated between a popper and a LC Sammy. It was the Sammy that disappeared in a garbage can lid swirl that had me thinking big green fish until a bonus striped bass was boat side. The popper produced consistently throughout the early morning until it didn’t and I decided to punch matted vegetation. Punching with a creature bait was very productive and included a couple of light green, almost golden largemouth bass. But the meanest, most battle scared and hardest fighting fish (pic #4, pic #5) of the session wanted a t-rigged 6” senko. And funny thing is based on this particular fish’s battle damage I think I may have caught it before (pic #6), 061319 on a wacky rigged 6” senko. In looking at the pictures the wish I just could remember where in the delta in ‘19 I caught it, but it’s possible it’s the same fish, right? If so, it definitely says a lot about C&R, not to mention the resiliency of the black bass.

Post a photo a day!
We were privileged enough while to spend time up in the Pacific Northwest and enjoy some pleasant weather. We were treated daily to floatplanes seeming to use the high rise buildings as markers for their final approach, view of the Space Needle and waterfront and a Lake Washington sailboat regatta.

Father and twin boys brand new to fishing!
Hello @SlamDiego from NorCal, welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums! As suggested above by fellow members of the Bass Resource, targeting panfish with worms and a bobber is a great way to start teaching your boys how to fish. I’d suggest getting them each a relatively inexpensive rod and reel combo with a rubber casting plug so they can practice in anticipation of your next fishing trip. Good fishing and be sure to take pictures of collective successes to share with your family and friends.

X-Rap pallet broken
Hello, and welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums. Regarding your first post, I would suggest sending the Rapala Customer Service Department an email with those photos explaining what happened at custserv.usa@rapalavmc.com. And here’s their phone number in Minnesota +1-952-933-7060. I hope this helps and again welcome to Bass Resource.

anti-seasick tips?
Yes indeed, both Berkeley and Emeryville have good party boat fleets. I haven’t been salmon fishing out of there in years due to the state closures.
