No fishing for awhile

Featured Replies

I won’t be going out on the lake for an undetermined time. Not by choice. There are two wildfires on the other side of the lake. Both are in remote areas and can only be  fought by air. There is no vehicle access to the fires. One fire is 6,000 acres and the other one is 4,000 acres. An extreme hazardous air warning is in place. The smoke is so thick it looks like fog and the smell is terrible.
I hope all the firefighters stay safe

Stay safe!

Lake Shasta wilderness areas the fire crews are not allowed to use any equipment that burns fossil fuels an including chainsaw,  Bull dozers etc.

The ground crews must have a local Indian guide to prevent disturbing tribal pathways etc. It’s going to be a long fire season🤬

I understand not wanting to upset the native tribes - but there should be a limit. How much of their land is going to be destroyed because the state wants 'hands off'.

Idiots.

A Fire Chief is good friend and fights fires. The last big fire in that area they had to take their food a what non powered equipment with mules and had to helicopter evacuate loosing the of mules. This is serious problem in some areas California, no joke!

So it's BS.  Show me a valid newspaper article.  What you said doesn't pass the smell test.  Fire fighters aren't allowed to use engines?  Have you ever been on a fire line?  It's bulldozers and 2500 Super Duties as far as the eye can see.

Ground crews are required to have an Indian guide?  Give me a break!  That's complete absurdity and you should know better than to believe it.

PM sent, do your own research. Fire fighting equipment allowed to be used in Shasta-Trinity National Forest…

d**n, let’s not get so testy.    We should all relax and hope the fires get put out by dozers or unicorns, whichever is the best for the job!

We’ve had 2 days of smoke filled air here in MN. It seems to be improving but every time we get a cooler, northwest wind, it has smoke from Canada now.

Its really unfortunate because a northwest wind in the summer time provides cooler, less humid air, which is often a relief from hot, humid weather. Now it comes with a fresh dose of smoke.

There is also a bad fire on the north side of the Grand Canyon. The 100 year old lodge there burned down.

Floods and fires…

I googled this: "are firefighters in California not allowed to use bulldozers" and didn't get a single link confirming that this is so.

Then I googled "are firefighters at Lake Shasta not allowed to use bulldozers" and AI said that bulldozers are being used.

first off.  even if CA is burning..there are negative comments.  great work guys.  the Flood in Texas...I havent seen you all armchair quarterback that one..

and my friend is an Engineer for CalFire.   you all are mixing apples and oranges.  BIA..bureau of internal Affairs, manages the FEDERAL lands.  there are BIA lands in California which CALFIRE stays out of unless invited.  Feds are Trumps land..  Native lands are sovereign, my friend said they stay out of there as well, unless invited..and then they do have an escort..usually the native nations fire crews.  he said if they dont allow gas engines..it is probably their gas engines..  he hasn't been on a reservation in his career, so he doesnt know the nuances.    but you all go guess.

good luck to the affected..I hope it works out.  fires suck..floods suck..all of it.

Shasta is Fed lands right??  national forest.

Yes it is Dwight, and 57% of California’s forest land is owned and managed by the federal government. It’s some of the comments and attitudes expressed in this thread and other threads about California in general that are disappointing. Something about glass houses….

I’m fortunate enough to live here in a state with great weather year round and is the 4th LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD.  I’m pretty sure not too many people reading this aren’t aware that Californian taxpayers get roughly $1.00 back for every $10.00 we pay in federal taxes nor do/would they care.

I know the almost 40 million residents of California will continue to work with what we have when catastrophic situations arise and answer the others call for help when it’s needed.
