anti-seasick tips?
I’m going guess @Darth-Baiter you’re probably fishing outta Bodega Bay on one of the party boats. Given all the great advice and solutions previously mentioned, I’d suggest you not fishing off the stern as diesel exhaust and someone prone to getting seasick are a bad combination. Fish up off the bow where there’s always fresh air or next to the wheelhouse where you can talk to the captain and even monitor the boats electronics. I hope it’s an uneventful trip, other than full sacks of fish all around and maybe some Dungeness crab if they are able to set the pots.

registration sticker peeling
I’ve used Gorilla silicone sealant @gim when I’ve had similar sticker issues. Just have to monitor how the edge holds while the silicone sets up. I also discovered over the years if you remove the old registration stickers, clean the area, then apply the new stickers it minimizes this problem.

Your all time favorite Shimano baitcaster.
All time favorite reel? In reading the responses, I guess it depends on what one’s definition of “all time” is, and what’s the individual’s point of reference in terms of reliability or latest shiny new tech. My personal favorite is the reel that is the workhorse of my lineup over the years, the Curado B because it’s dependable, reliable, easy to maintain and still provides me with a lot personal satisfaction when fishing.

Black Boat Interiors
Darker carpet and seat material doesn’t show dirt and some stains as you mentioned @Vilas15and does retain heat during those triple digit days out west. As for the water spots, a spray bottle with a mixture of water and a little distilled white vinegar does a pretty good job of eliminating that problem. And too @WRB’s above point, it’s not as bad as you might think and shorts have evolved since the ‘80’s which is a good thing 👍.

When is it time for your Dad/Mom to stop driving??
Definitely not a fun subject @DaubsNU1 when it comes to taking away one’s independence, because that’s what you’re contemplating. Sounds like your Dad had a really bad 30 minutes of driving on the day mentioned. Have you or your siblings been in the car with your Dad when he’s without him feeling any pressure and observed how he operates his car and the decisions that are made while driving. In my opinion this would be a good place to start a conversation we’re all eventually going to have with our respective families.

Food while you fish?
I’ll start my morning with a cup of Peet’s coffee or two. An orange juice to wash down a double fried egg sandwich with cheese and ham on the way to the ramp. I’ll go with a lot of water and some Poweraide (better option than Gatorade) to stay hydrated, especially during the summer months. Jerky or some dried mangoes are always an available option traveling between spots of 5mph zones. And without a doubt those Uncrustables are great lunchtime snacks, throw ‘em in the cooler frozen and couple hours later they’re ready to eat.

Ah, yes Katy hahaha it was 71 degrees- when I got back to the ramp and started the truck. In another three months air temperatures will rise to around triple digits here in the Big Valley, fortunately it’s a comfortable dry heat. And all that haberdashery is welcome when the boats on plane, I was heading back when I decided to hit one last spot because I was there. Definitely glad I did 😁. And as for the Smuckers comment- how’d you guess what I brought for lunch? It’s my jam

It definitely took a little while to finally get on the water, however my first trip of 2025 was a personal success with this 4.4lber coming aboard. With 58 degree water and 71 degree air temps it sure seemed like better fishing is just around the corner.

What’s the deal with buying tackle on eBay from Japanese seller?
I’ve had good experiences buying from eBay. There have been items I’ve looked at that in the description there was a topic line stating “have one like this to sell” and you can use the original listing and pictures as the basis to sell your widget. Another issue which could create problems is if a vendor is selling multiple items using the same photo(s). In this case I guess the only way to get clarity is the contact the seller/vendor and ask for pictures of the item you are interested in.

Good bass boat for around 4-5k?
Hello @MikeB24 and welcome to Bass Resource and making your first post in the Forums. With your budget and not knowing the waters you fish or the cost of a bass/fishing boats in the area you live, I’d recommend a kayak as a great option. With the evolving technology regarding kayaks it could out fitted with the excellent electronics, an electric motor, enough rods/tackle to cover various techniques and possibly solve a potential storage problem. And kayak tournament fishing has exploded nationwide and a great number of Bass Resource members are kayak anglers and willing to share their knowledge and experiences. In the meantime, you’ll be better able to budget for the boat is more in line with your budget and future fishing needs. Another option is to put the monies you’ve saved down on an entry level boat. Good luck and keep us apprised of your decision.

Fishing 3-in-a-boat in a Club
Sorry your club is dealing with this @Junk Fisherman, and as you pointed out a club’s backbone is the number of boaters, not non-boaters. It was unfortunate that four boats weren’t available for whatever reason for the tournament. If the boaters of the unavailable boats want to fish, they should be placed in the non-boater pool and drawn like any other non-boater and paired up accordingly. Any non-boater who wasn’t drawn should be placed on a waiting list for the next available boat. I’m kinda of surprised the Tournament Director didn’t do this and it wasn’t made clear to the non-boaters that they’re subject to the “luck of the draw” as opposed to guaranteed a place to fish. In doing so the TD is penalizing the boaters who showed up with their boats by adding another angler/competitor to their boat to fish against. Boat ownership and all it entails isn’t cheap and I’d like to believe this is understood by the clubs non-boaters. Just my .02
