Falcon Cara T7 disappointment
Yeah...use it first....was it stated that that very rod was a flipping stick? I bought a Kistler Magnesium 7'H that is quiet smaller than any Bass Pro Rod I have.

Jon Boat For Big Guys
My dad has a 14ft? or somewhere close....might be 16 but he is about 400 or so and I am around 275 and fish comfortably...have had another fish with us that weighed somewhere in between with little problems

Tube Jigs
I primarily use the small tubes for crappie but there are days that the bass caught out number the crappie 2:1. They are a great bait to use on a slow day around cover and shallow structure. Catch bass, bluegill, crappie, trout, etc.... Primarily fish them with a weighted slip bobber, the long foam kind with the internal spring and hooks on each end, about 1-4 feet above a small jig head, depending on depth, and work it back with a slow retrieve and slight bounce of the rod tip. This gives the tube a sotr of swimming action. Few weeks ago fished for crappie and cought around 20 bass with one over 4lbs.

Uses of a 7.0 baitcaster
No...not really

Uses of a 7.0 baitcaster
IPT is also varied by amount of spool filling....how much line you got... full spool, more IPT....less is less

Shimano Stradic or Quantum Catalyst
Last years energy is a great reel. I bought one from the Bargain Cave from Cabelas for $89. Great reel, haven't had the chance to really try it out but fishing with it the past few weeks has been pretty good.

Switching to baitcasting
From my experience, I would say to start with a round reel. I really started with an old Pro Qualifier round reel and that helped a bit. The heavier spool is easier to cast than that of a low profile.

KVD Reel Vs. Code Red
If I'm not mistaken, the KVD is a beefed up code with a flipping switch and then the Code Red comes out with almost the same specs. If the Code Red comes cheaper, then I would choose it. I have an original Code and really like the reel. Not the smoothest but nothing to complain about. Little disappointed by the ACS II system with only 3 positions and free but once dialed in can really work for you. Have had mine for about a year and a half with no real complaints

Pline Evolution

spinning reel - what pound line?
8lb P-line CXX

Uses of a 7.0 baitcaster
The way I understand it is if you move the bait with the rod, use a higher ratio. Move the bait with the reel, use a lower ratio.

Spinning rod recommendation needed
I just bought a Damiki Dark Angel 7'M spinning rod that I plan to use for most of the mentioned techniques, except for split-shotting, never do it.

Help picking rod and reel out for bass fishing
What's your price range for rod, reel, or both...unless you have a great wealth of extra cash, I would agree with the combo mentioned but I would take a look at some Bass Pro combos (Extreme, Pro Qualifier), Quantum Code, last years Energy or Tour PT, Pflueger Supreme or Asaro, Abu Black/Silver Max, Shimano Citica. For Rods there are even more choices Mojo bass rods, Carrot Stix, Quantum Energy PT rods, Kistler Magnesium, Bass Pro rods, Shimano...tell you what go here and take your pick http://www.***.com/ free shipping over $50

Need to know if good
The Platinum Plus...which I think is the reel you have...would probably do you good for a little while. Keep it clean and running good and it should do you well. The rod, which I believe is available at Wal-Mart? isn't the best rod for bass fishing. I bought one when I first started and caught a good number of fish on it, until I rolled it up in the window and broke the tip. Then I got a Lightening rod which was much better. I would keep the reel but try to find a better rod. If you have a price range for a rod post it...I'm sure you could get some good suggestions...and some off the wall ones :

STX vs. Patriarch
The price is on eBay is what drew me into the Patriarch. I was thinking about the revo S at the time, because of the centrifugal brake, buddy had an SX and wasn't that great with it, but I ran across a few auctions and ended up buying two 64LP and 64WLP, sold the WLP to the buddy who had and sold the SX, what was I thinking? I now have a third coming and he has two, don't think we paid or 150 for one.

STX vs. Patriarch
I don't think you'll have any regrets with the reel. I too recently ordered a 71WLP.
-
STX vs. Patriarch
The original question was comparing the two because he already had some STX's and was looking for a different reel. This has nothing to do with the S reels. He was wanting a comparison of the two reels in the title and I personally think that we left that comparison between pages somewhere. I'm sure the S is good reel, if I were to buy a revo that is where I would start.

Are aesthetics important to you?
To me they are somewhat important....If I have a rod and am purchasing a reel for it, then appearance does have an effect. I basically bought a Big Show flipping stick for my Curado e7...Patriarchs look better on my Carrot Stix Gold ans my Kistler Magnesium.

Jitterbug Retrieve
Slow and steady
-
which patriarch?
I would put it to what size line you use...if you plan on using some larger line, say 15lb+, I would go with the WLP...I personally don't feel that much of a difference between the two... Also think about your thumbs, long slender thumbs are better suited with the LP....wider thumbs, WLP
