  1. I have two dobyns saavy rods and judging from them, you couldn't go wrong with any of the dobyns rods. I have compared the saavys that I have to compareable rods in the price range like the powells and kistler magnesiums and prefer the dobyns. The Powell is pretty similar in feel and balance with a 7'H, both blow the kistler out of the water IMO. I've felt the champions and really like them in hand, never fished one though. If you can't afford the champion, the saavy isn't far behind and would be a great choice.
  2. For shallow cranks, the vendetta would do ok. For deeper baits, a longer, more powerful rod would do you good. I personally use a 6'10" MH Carrot Stix Gold with a Sol for anything under 10'. After that I go to my 7'MH Lucky Craft with a Curado 200e5.
  3. I like the BPS Nitro Shad deep divers. I deep crank alot from the bank under a bridge in an area with alot of brushpiles, rocks, and steel cables around the bridge. Needless to say I have lost a few lures there. I really like the Bomber Fat Free Shad and Norman DD22s but here I tend to fish the BPS cranks and SK Series 5-6 baits, both are 3.99, Normans are almost $7 here and so are the Bombers. They get the job done and don't hurt my wallet as much when the get snagged.
  4. For your list of applications, I would say the MH
  5. I like spit grip rods, I always have. When I started bass fishing, I always looked at the Daiwa L&T series of rods and the Phenix MBX rods. I have and fish both types of rods, with foam and cork, with no real beef with any certain style. Most of my rods are spit grips though.
  6. A Shakespeare Barbie pole caught the lake record walleye out of one of my home lakes
  7. I have a few of the pumpkinseed crankbaits, they are pretty good. They look really good and have a nice action and they have caught fish.
  8. I fish them really anywhere at any time. structure is a big plus, I normally fish under a bridge with some rock piles and standing timber.
  9. They should redo the President XT...that thing is
  10. That does look mighty tempting...and it's about time they brought that supreme over here
  11. I have a few packs of BPS hooks, never really had a problem with them. However, the superlock is something to stay away from...I bought a pack a few years ago with the assumption they were a regular EWG....WRONG. They are similar to an EWG but the point points back towards the shank of the hook, instead of running flush with your bait, the point is turned back into it....regular EWG | Superlock /
  12. Powerbait is good anywhere. I like using crappie tubes and jigs in my creek
  13. none...now a car window, that's a different story :
  14. You can always count on him to show at KY Lake, I was surprised at Guntersville, seemed like it was set up for him but a top 10 is nothing to look down on.
  15. I would say excel...the plastics W&M is good for cranks but the are all too soft IMO
  16. If I was ever in a pinch and needed a rod for cheap, an ugly stick lite would be a good way to go. They have their place in the market and for live bait fishing, an ugly stick is at the top of my list. FWIW my dad has a Shakespeare Dimension reel that he uses for crappie, it's basically a Pflueger President, even has the rosewood handle and makes use of the one way clutch.
  17. the 1500 is similar to the 200e, the 1000 looks to be closer to a core, and a core for that price is nice.
  18. me too.....may end up giving it another shot but so far I find 20lb CXX easier to use than braid
