  1. That's just like the Pro Qualifier Viper rods/reels last year. They looked good but were rather heavy and clunky. I would say that the combo that was on sale was the new version of their LTD series, top shelf name, bargain bin construction. I really hate those bait and switch gimmicks they pull from time to time. Gotta watch the Extreme XPS combos as well. You think you are getting an Extreme rod and reel for the price of the reel but you get an Extreme reel on a black blank XPS rod that, even for a BPS rod, is extremely heavy.
  2. I think you'll be quiet pleased with the Extreme
  3. I recently just put 50lb Suffix back on my flipping stick after a buddy had an issue with Power Pro ruining his rod but I don't use jigs all that much and had some leftover. I think the Alconite guides on my Big Show Flipping Stick are gonna be okay, the other was an Extreme with Hardloys. When I was using it before I never had any problems with it. How was the reel stored, what type of area are you fishing, rocks reek havoc on braid.
  4. It's pretty much just preference. As to not switching after a cast, I have found that even though you are casting with your right and retrieving with the left, you still change your hand position from cast to retrieve so I never really understood the worry that some have about switching hands.
  5. No reason not to use spinning gear for t-rigs if that's what you prefer. I personally really like using spinning gear for tubes with weedless jig heads. Before I went nuts last Christmas, I was fishing all my t-rigs on a 6'6'' MH Extreme with a size 40 President, wonderful set-up, and even better when I upgraded to a 7'MH Extreme. I'm even contemplating getting a second spinning set-up for tubes and weightless worms.
  6. I too am a Pflueger fan, I have a President, 3 Patriarchs, an Asaro, and a Supreme. As much as I hate to say it, I would advise against the Purist. I have no personal experience with the Purist, but from just feeling the reel, it doesn't seem like it would hold up to abuse for very long. Any of the BPS reels, Extreme and up, would be a good purchase. If you would like to stay with Pflueger and shop on ebay, I would suggest takingy a look at the Supremes. I bought a NIB Supreme for $65 last year for spinnerbaits and really like the reel. It looks like there are a few on there now going for $99-109. It is a tad larger than current top of the line reels but is well worth the ebay price if you are interested.
  7. They definitely seem like good rods, have never fished one but if they are better than the Pro Qualifier then they are worth it. The only problem I see from BPS rods these days is the extreme weight differences for lager sizes.
  8. i know they are lightweight guides, but do they not hold up? Heard alot about the guides but I have two stix, an LTX and a Gold and have not had trouble with either
  9. I started using it this year as a main line and I've not had any problems with it. Weaker than CXX but that's to be expected. Have been using 12lb and really like it, don't think I would go any lower than 12lb but that's a matter of opinion, I tend to like a little stiffer and thicker line. Use 12lb on my spinning gear. Can't say too much about the visibility, been raining really hard on and off all spring here and the waters not all that clear.
  10. Exactly....and if the memory bothers you, say in 10lb, you could safely go with 8lb in CXX, that's what I crank with, 8lb shallow....10lb medium-deep and spinnerbaits, and have not lost a crank with it yet, have straightened a few hooks with the 10lb. I have been trying out the flouro-clear 12lb on smaller t-rigs but still 15lb for 10'' worms and 17lb for jigs in CXX
  11. The Buccoo is rather new and I don't think you're going to get much advice from experienced users of the rod since it is so new. The Carrot Stix, on the other hand, are going to be my choice based on weight alone. I have never handled a Buccoo, really looking into one though, but I crank with a 6'10''MH Carrot Stix Gold and paired with a Daiwa Sol, it's probably the lightest combo I have ever felt.
  12. there are some used citicas in the flea market for $100
  13. P-Line CXX, CX, or Flouro-clear
  14. The only hooks that I don't like out of the package are brass hooks. Most of them are fine starting out but I find the brass hooks rusting faster...which sucks because I really like Tx3 hooks.
  15. It's been a big help for me as well, mostly this site and youtube videos.
  16. The natural did a nice repaint on his Tour PT
  17. If finesse doesn't work...go the opposite way, throw big jigs, 10-12'' worms, large profile cranks
  18. The Spillcanvas DMB Black Label Society Pearl Jam Cold
  19. definitely looks like a good worm
  20. They're not bad at all...In one of the hospitals I used to work at, there was a doctor that did his own in his office with just local anesthetic.....
  21. I use a 6'10'' MH Gold, not the Boyd Duckett Classic Gold, but the Gold with the cork, for shallow to medium diving crank baits and it is wonderful for this application.
