strange situation - lake seemed too good...
Sam, you've got a way with words this morning, well put. I see this lake as potentially being the one that raises your bar and makes you become an angler of the next level,...or two. Find flats in deeper water,...break from what you know and grow.

agreed but more importantly,...GET OUT THERE!! We just had day #4 of a warming spike. It drove the temps to finally hit 50 degrees (water) which finally triggered the craws to stumble out of their holes. This means a fishing melee for us in the shallow coves,.....finally. 15 fish in less than 30 minutes yesterday,...2-4 ft deep, dark bottom cove in the 1st half of the day (the warming half ) and then we move out to where they stage for this cove. Pretty much just as Catt said,......shallow for the warming half (swimming a light jig),....staging areas for the 2nd half (dt-10).........what a day.

Hate it when......
I gotta catch me one of these freshwater stripers, the saltwater version aren't very good fighters compared to the other fish they swim with (bonita and Bluefish) Couple good head shakes and then you just reel in the weight. The bigger the fish, the more so the case. A 40 lbr to me is just a big bag of money,......unfortunately, they fight like one too > : For years, I only went fter the best paying fish, 30-40 lb range so I thought it was just the bigger girls. I figured it may have to do with bringing them up from 60-80 ft so quickly. After catching many more inside the bay, I learned that even the 10-20 lbrs are lame. The only time I get a good fight out of a salt striper is when they are up in the rivers. The current helps them fight like a real fish I guess,.....or at least allows them to fake it better, lol. I finally got one last yr that was fun,.....using a 6ft med freshwater rod helped though ;D It just seems to me that with a tail that size and shape, they SHOULD be powerhouses. But back to the topic. I don't buy LC baits so I will never know that pain, lol Finally,...a fighter

strange situation - lake seemed too good...
Sometimes,...that's just fishing. I'm convinced I am fishing in the best lake in our state for both size and umbers. It's very protected and I'm very lucky to have made the connections there that I did in years past. That said,...the place can still hand your butt to you on a plate every now and again. Other days, you can hit four 5-lbrs, other days you need to fight just to earn a dink. This is more common in very clear water I believe as these fish are more aware of the environment OUTSIDE of their world more than a fish from dirty water. Just keep plugging, give the place a few chances. Fish it when there is a guaranteed bite (spawn). You may find something one day that will make that lake your favorite place on Earth. Give it a better chance than just one outing.

What are they doing?
He did silly. Antioch, Ca. Funny though, I was replying and thinking,...where's Catt,...he'll know this....?
-
What are they doing?
Perhaps those are groups of females waiting to be escorted to a bed? (a guess) What is the water temp? Are you in the spawning range? New beds around yet? Are the fish in each group all the same size, and if so, would they be the larger class in your lake or the smaller class in your lake?

bull #@%& fishing ticket
So try and wiggle out of your responsibility when you are point blank wrong? That's no lesson for a kid whether you respect your law enforcement or not. As for the guy being a jerk,....If you knew how serious of a situation this is on certain parts of certain rivers in NY, you'd understand that he probably feels the same about a guy who comes to a section of a river that is so abused it has a warden there 24/7, and blatantly used the method he is specifically put there to enforce. These guys are not the typical ego based cop, they are there protecting a fishery that the PUBLIC has abused. This is the equivelant of smoking a joint on the steps of the police station and then calling the cop that arrested you a jerk. Knowing the law is your responsibility.

bull #@%& fishing ticket
I can't speak for your Game Wardens, in Texas, some GW's cover 3-400 miles by themselves with no back up for hours. They patrol borders and encounter some illegals crossing and smugglers. One of the most dangerous jobs in Texas. Sorry for his ticket, but your statement about Barney and Game Wardens are off course. Hookem Bravo Matty. I live in RI and I am aware of the j-hook laws in NY, they are there to protect the salmon from "snaggers". It's a good law that is strongly enforced,.......for the benefit of the fish and fisherman. Take it as a lesson and spread the word, now you know Wo wo wo, are you telling me it is illegal to use a big set of snagging hooks and work them like a jerkbait in Wood River? :-? NY you mook,......many people who are not from New england, think RI is a part of NY. YOU live here,...you should know the difference ;D Rooster, your complaints are justified if you are doing something about it. Your community is the only group that can stand up for itself. If you are not part of the solution, then just complaining about it gets you nowhere and makes you part of the problem, not the solution. Please don't group all law enforcement as scum just because your local town has opted to settle for such.

Who plans on "video-ing" this year?
We've found 2 in particular that work very well for video, here's the key. Most digi cams that come with the "video" option, have more of a camphone setting, 320x320 but there are a couple that record at 640x480, like mine. I use a fujifilm 5600. I've owned the 5000 and 5200, basically older versions of same camera. When I bought it, it was the only one that recorded at 640x480. People were amazed that we shot our stuff with a digi cam. Now, mind you,...it's not as good as a digital recorder but it's more than enough for me, especially considering that the camera also takes fool proof stills. I've taken some great pics with it and I'm a rookie. Canon also makes one now, Glenn just got one and so did HagHunter. I haven't seen any footage from them yet but it is the same setting and similar price ($250-300) Not sure of that model # The cost with these cams is the accessories. You need a set of rechargeable batt's. I have 12 of them, 3 sets of 4. I use the 15 minute rechargeables. (about $15-30 for charger and 4 batts, additional 4 packs are about $10-15) A good bag Memory cards. I have 2 one gig cards,...15 mins each of video at high setting or about 1700 stills each. for fishing, I do short clips. To set the camera up and record the whole outing, you need to go to the digital camcorder route-mo money. You can edit your footage in windows movie maker. It comes packaged with XP, look in "programs".

has anyone added their own side or center steer console?
I've done something similar with the 21' steiger craft. (My old tuna boat) We moved the center console more towards the rear and replaced the entire floor with 5/8 while we were at it. Do you have specific questions? Things to consider- Routing the wiring for electronics. Motor controls Hull balance and performance regarding weight placement. (my boat handled heavier seas much better with the console moved towards the stern. replacing under-deck foam (tricky) Carpeting and final finish work
