Re-waterproofing rain gear?
Many Outerwear garments need conditioning. Just because it is gore-tex, entrant,or hyvent or some other waterproof material, you have to understand what these things are. Gore-tex is merely a layer inside the garment. It looks like tissue paper and is between the hard outer layer and the liner. The outer layer is treated with a scotch guard type material at the factory. This is why the rain beads off, NOT because of the gore-tex. With that said, a scotch guard type treatment needs to be reapplied a few times a yr depending on how often you use it. Now, if there IS gore-tex inside the garment, you MUST be sure to use a Gore approved treatment as a regular scotch guard treatment has chemicals in it that deteriorate gore-tex. VERY IMPORTANT!! There are 4 or 5 different makers of Gore approved treatments. (pss- NEVER, NEVER use fabric softener or detergents containing them!!!!) (ps-a gore-tex tip- putting gore-tex garments in the dryer (on low) is actually good for gore-tex.) For more Gore-tex care and maintenance, read HERE

What Category Are You In?
I am a lake /pattern fisherman. Somewhat. Although I now fish the same place consistently, I spent yrs fishing just about every body of water in my state and quite a few in neighboring states. This experience educated me to know that where I fish now is pretty much the cream of the crop. Spots change. This yr our fish are holding on very different areas than in yrs past, mostly due to chemical influences introduced by the water supply board to re-balance the lake. Being a successful pattern fisherman, allowed us to start finding their new haunts.

How Low can u go?
Mike, those cars are all about the mods, a simple spike hole in the roof with a wind/rain deflector would just be one more thing that the next guy doesn't have. I'm not into them either. I looked at one that they wanted me to do the audio in. With everything they had going on electrically and hydraulically, I said "thanks but no thanks". One of those jobs you KNOW you'll be back to "fix" 10 times over.

How Low can u go?
At the Paralyzed Vets tourny this weekend, the M/C went and recruited this group of low riders that had gathered at the park. They became part of the procession that led the anglers to the weigh-in. CHECK THESE GUYS OUT

What a jerk!
That's simple. First of all, it wouldn't matter if it were a jon boat, a bass rig, a pontoon boat or belly boat sitting on the spot that person was there first, and it's their spot. They have as much right to be on the water as I do, and I'm absolutely no better than them. Now for what I would do in the situation you mentioned, is first explain to the person what was going on and ask permission to take over the spot. If that didn't work I'd offer them $20 to take it over. If that still didn't work I'd ask them if I could fish the spot along with them. And if nothing at all worked, I would leave and come back a little later. I would never overtake the spot or crowd out the other boat that was there first, no matter what! Decency carries a higher price tag for me than an ill-gotten check from FLW or BASS. ALL PRAISE ZEL!!! My previous replies are tongue in cheek. I would never endanger myself or my fishing partner by pushing a strangers buttons, even they have already pushed mine. Being the bigger person can feel better than catching a big bass and I'm a firm believer that what comes around, goes around.

S. California Wildfires
I witnessed one of these first hand on my Cali visit last yr. I was awe struck. Robert and Guille were like,..."whatever".... I was ready to start hosing the house, lol I mean, sure it was a good 15-20 miles away but everything in between us was brown and dry. I think they got a laugh out of me. This one is quite a monster though. Be safe everyone and Good luck.

Hull Strake
Where we drag it, and the media we drag it over (ashfault road and rip rap, not beach sand) would torture those. Plus, I am not sure how pliable they are. I don't know if I could "fold" it tight enough to fit on the angle involved. My original thought was to just weld on 2 ft lengths of round stock to the rear. (it is only dragged one rear 1-2 feet due to angle of launch). File the ends to taper smoothly and be done with it. This way, If I use 1/4 in stock, I have 1/4 of metal to wear through before replacing as opposed to the thinner thickness of angle aluminum. Thoughts?

For you car guys - :)

Stabilized canoe to bass boat
well,...the jons don't NEED that, they are equally as stable out of the box. This works so well for you because of the launching ability of a canoe, right? I mean, if you were to trailer it in to wherever you fish, all this would not be necessary, you could just use a jon. You can stand up and walk around in a jon too. Have you ever considered a jon? If I remember correctly, there was a very good reason you use the canoe,...but it escapes me at the moment.

Hull Strake
Awesome info and input from everyone, thank you. Keep in mind, I am not using these as strakes. They are to be metal keel guards for where we drag it. as mentioned earlier, the rivet heads would be the first to get ground off again. I also DO have a scrap yard on one of the routes I do, they would give me 3-4 five foot sections for free knowing these guys. MATTY......Fire that thing up, we got work to do buddy (On that note, since meeting Matt less than a year ago, he has turned out to be one heck of a friend. Helping out with CAST events and anything he can do, he does (Welding, etc). Now he works at UPS with me. Looking forward to a good long friendship right there. ) Thanks again for all the input guys.

Todays catch.....
FC- Is that a "normal" looking sturgeon? The only other ones I have seen are on TV, those monsters that weigh in the hundreds. Certainly not knocking your catch but are they usually skinny like that at that length? Do you ever get a real fat one?
