  1. If the fish's heads get smaller then you're not getting bigger fish. You want their heads to get BIGGER and their bodies to be proportionate. You're better off keeping as many as the small legal fish as you can. The big ones should always go back as there won't be very many of them in a small body of water and they take YEARS to grow from 1.5 lbs to 5 lbs or larger. Agreed. A body of water with stunted fish will have few fish 1.5lbs or better and loads of smaller fish. Then again, judging the health of any body of water is guess work by a typical angler. Your best bet is to contact your local DNR or conservation officer and have an expert take a look at your lake and your catch rate and make the call. There are other things that can cause a poor fish population besides an out of balance ratio of bass.
  2. It seems as though there's a car failing post race inspection about every other weekend the past few years. Fines are levied, crew chiefs suspended for X number of races yet it changes nothing. Cheating has become a way of life in that series. Toyota sure didn't invent it.
  3. My father in law watches it all the time and I just can't get interested in it. I don't really care who the team or manufacturer is, it seems odd to limit them because they are TOO successful. Isn't that the whole point of a racing series, to BE successful? Most top level racing series are like that. NASCAR is basically a reality TV show featuring personalities that has racing as it's theme. The cars are a necessary evil. Nascar, the series that was based on "stock" cars, hasn't been in years. It's the reason Ford, Chevy and Dodge are now questioning the level of their involvement in this series that's gotten extremely expensive to run in. It's all about ROI, win on Sunday, sell on Monday. When your company is on the verge of bankruptcy, you have to be realistic with every penny you spend and 43 cars running around a track that have absolutely no similarity to what's currently on the showroom floor along with archaic engine technology is a tough sell. Toyota has a history of entering racing series and spending HUGE amounts of money to get into the winners circle. The big three don't have enough bullets in their guns to match by getting into a engine building war. I suspect NASCAR will continue to sanction and limit yoda motors until that company gets pizzed off and leaves. It's manufactured racing by changing the rules on the fly, creating drama, selling driver & NASCAR bling and the France family sucking as much money out of the sport as possible. It's not really racing much like the WWF isn't really wrestling. It's a show. Get with the program here.
  4. Like 14 - 16 cans of that spray foam. ;D It was the most expensive part of the whole boat redo project.
  5. If your boat is anything like mine, the seat is actually riveted to brackets which are riveted to the boat hull. Drill out the rivets that attach the seat to the brackets and then cut the brackets down with a saw or die grinder.
  6. I can't even imagine trying to throw crankbaits on a spinning rod but if you insist I'd say this model ASR spinning rod would probably work out best. ASR845S
  7. I recently low decked a 12ft semi-V I purchased. It's a narrow 36" wide bottom. I installed a floor base plate for a pedestal seat at about mid-ship a little behind the previous location of the center seat which I removed. It's still tippy. I wouldn't think of attempting to fish any sort of aggressive fishing styles like flippin which would require a fast and violent hookset. I'll end up in the drink. ;D It's OK fishing out of the seat but I notice the instability the higher I raise the pedestal. BTW, to replace the foam I lost by removing the center seat I shot about 10-12 cans of the foam under the new floor along the sides. It not only provides flotation but also helps deaden sound.
  8. Those old Hydra Sports were sorta known to sit stern low in the water. Make sure you have a automatic bilge pump or auto bilge pump switch installed.
  9. it's a scam. These same guys have been running these boats on ebay before. Especially the Ranger which I've seen before. Same MO. Wire money via western union to the UK. Most of those got pulled down by ebay before they were up long.

  11. I average 3-4 years out of the everstarts I buy. Did you use distilled water to top up the batteries?
  12. If your partner thinks a Triton handles rough water "excellant", he obviously hasn't been in a Champion.
  13. Not likely. Algae blooms can be common in shallow lakes in the summer. Algae growth explodes. They intake too much oxygen and expel gasses, some toxic, leaving the lake with too little oxygen for fish. Thus a fish kill occurs. The ocean is not immune to these either. Often known as Red Tides, it's deadly for fish. Filling your baitwell with water from an area experiencing a red tide will kill any live bait you put into it.
  14. ribit, ribit.
  15. Just a quick note on the ski bridal thing and it may not apply unless you'll be pulling some serious knee boarders, skiers or wake boarders. Because the bridal is attached so low on the back of the boat the ski rope will drag through your wake if someone is cutting from side to side on whatever they're riding on. Not a big deal if you're just pulling a tube but I've had complaints from the serious riders wanting to do jumps and what not off of the boat wakes, that the rope dragging through wake really messes that kind of stuff up. In that case a ski pole would be your best bet.
  16. You can pull a tuber by buying a ski bridal and attaching both ends to the stern tie downs. As for a boarding ladder, you can get those hang over the side types that work quite well.
  17. If this is a fiberglass boat with decks I'd say you're 36lber will perform rather unsatisfactory, at least compared to what you've been using it on.
  18. I'll chime in with All Star. Either the Team All Star TAS815SWW or a Platinum P815SWW. They call them Wacky worm rods but they make excellant, all around soft plastic rods and they won't cost you an arm and a leg but still have all the sensitivity of the more expensive rods.
  19. I have a few, basically field testing them. They have the feel of a Revo on the rod. They cast a mile. They also feel like they're made of plastic when reeling in with or without a fish on the end. Perhaps because I have so many other Revo's on other rods but you can feel the reel isn't as solid. Not that that's a bad thing, shoot, for around $40 -45 (going price on Ebay), it's hard to beat. As to the long term reliability?
  20. Most smaller conservation lakes in Missouri were 10hp limited a number of years ago. They didn't mind if bigger motors were fired up to reload the boat on the trailer or if bad weather threatened. Eventually though they dropped it to a 10hp with a no wake. Anything under 10hp could run wide open, everyone else was at no wake. It primarily was to prevent erosion not too mention that everyone was cheating with 9.9 hp stickers on larger OB's. A few Illinois lakes have a strict 9.9hp limit. They moved it to a no wake deal for a few years but some people abused it. Bank erosion was the reason but frankly, a johnboat getting pushed by a 9.9 throws much more wake than I do idling with my 150.
  21. Both are well made boats. You need to test drive both and decide. They will drive and fish differently and that becomes a matter of personal taste as to which is better.
  22. I wish my work would offer me a sack full of money to not show up for work anymore.
  23. So Shimano buckled under and dumped their latest version of the Curado. No doubt due to the incredible sales of the Revo.
  24. Fully loaded with gas and gear, that rig probably pushes close to 2000 lbs. That's way too much IMO. You need to be looking at aluminum boats, not fiberglass with that tow vehicle.
