  1. I liked the Goliath one. My wife and I about fell off the couch when that old guy dove in the raging Congo to retrieve a snagged net. He's crazy!! He dove in after the Goonch also. He was afraid he was going to lose the fish in the current so he dove into the whitewater and took a trip downstream after it. Keep in mind he dove into the water with a fish that was suspected of being a maneater.
  2. Joe because thats my first name, Boss because I am the Operations Manager where I work and everyone calls me "Boss". My signature at the bottom "Caution: there's something fishy about this fella...but its not his odor." is because my buddies laugh that I always wear cologne even when I go fishing.
  3. I am kicking myself because I missed it. I love this show. My favorite so far is the one with the Goonch catfish.
  4. Be safe man. I heard things are pretty bad over there.
  5. I have both reels. My code is my workhorse reel and it performs very well in that role. I use my Megaforce when I am on a boat and use it strictly for jigging, no casting at all. I love the twitchin bar when I am jig fishing.
  6. I have a 7' Medium action I use for shore fishing. It is light and sensitive. I am still testing it to see if it is tough. Great rod for the price.
  7. I vote for the Code also. I have one and love it. It has a one-piece aluminum frame. The Burst is a graphite composite frame.
  8. Great combo. You will not regret it.
  9. City Limits Fishing gets my vote. Having grown up in Brooklyn NY I consider myself an "urban angler" like Ike. The show is fun to watch and informative as well. I learned a lot about patterns, and switching baits often to match the local forage. To this day my favorite episode is City Limits fishing New York. Ike catches a bluefish by the United Nations and the same day catches a Largemouth in Central park. That is the variety I have experienced and love about this state.
  10. When the clerk told me "That will be $29" I had to say all I want is the fishing license. I figured he might have thought I wanted to buy something else lying on the counter. When he told me that is the price of the license I asked him wasn't it $19 last year and he said "Yep, they raised the price $10"
  11. No I didn't. I chalked it up to the financial crisis we are in here in New York. Its so bad here the Gov is holding tax refund checks from being sent out for a few weeks so the state can pay its bills.
  12. Since the ice has melted on the lakes around here, I went to purchase my fishing license for the season yesterday. The price went up $10 from last year!! Usually it goes up a dollar or two but this is the largest increase I have ever seen in one year.
  13. That is one sweet smallmouth! I pass over the Mohawk (Twin Bridges) on my way to work everyday. Is there anyplace to fish from shore that is accessible by car?
  14. I like Lake George for smallies way better than Saratoga. I go to Saratoga when I want to catch a variety of fish in one day like pike, sunfish, walleye and bass. I go to Lake George when I want great smallmouth action since the lake is full of them. There is a place not to far (7 miles) from Lake George in Queensbury called Glen Lake. You can only get a canoe in there and it needs to be roof mounted (no trailers) for non residents. There are some nice sized bass in that lake both small and largemouth. The Hudson River runs right under the northway at exit 18. If you get off that exit there is a road that will take you back to the river and there is a small park there with a boat launch and a fishing pier. I have caught sunfish, rock bass and small and largemouth bass from the pier.
  15. When I fish for smallies from shore I use 6 or 8 pound test Stren or Trilene XL for maximum casting distance with my spinning gear. On a boat I have 12 pound test on my baitcasting equipment.
  16. I would purchase a Berkley Amp or Shimano Voltaeus before an Ugly Stick.
  17. She's got quite a schnoz on her. Otherwise she's not half bad.
  18. I read somewhere the total cost of the Census is estimated to be somewhere between 13 and 14 billion dollars. Seriously can't we find something better to spend that money on
  19. They wouldn't tell ya if he was using another type. I noticed Ike was using a Shimano Symetre when he caught his record 10lb Trout on CLF Milwaukee. I thought Daiwa was his sponsor last year when that was filmed. I saw he was wearing an Abu Garcia jacket at the classic last month. I love CLF! Ike shows he has all the problems we regular anglers do. Stepped on rods, hooking friends by accident and my favorite...cutting birdsnests out of our baitcasters after a bad cast.
  20. My son is 6 and has been fishing with me for 2 years now. His interest in fishing is not to high, certainly not as high as interest in video games. When we are at the pond he is much more interested in chasing ducks, hunting for turtles or his Nintendo DS. When I hook a bass I yell "fish on" and he knows to come running to reel it in for me. I see his eyes light up when he lands the fish and I know thats all I need to do for now. I have planted the seeds for his love of fishing to grow.
  21. I never lost a combo in a lake but when my son was 5 he lost his favorite Superman spincast rod and reel overboard while fishing on a friends boat. He cried for a good twenty minutes over his lost combo. I would say 45 minutes later after we had moved to different spot my friend gets hung up on something. When he reeled his line in we were all shocked to see he had hooked my sons Superman combo! The current had carried it to where we had moved. We still have the rod today and when I look at it I am reminded of this one in a million bit of luck that happened.
  22. Get a Berkley Amp rod for around $30 It is very sensative for a rod in its price range. The Mitchell Avocet reel others have mentioned is a fine starter reel. Some other good reels in the $20-$30 price range are the Quantum Optix and the Shimano Slade. You can't go wrong with any of them. For a few bucks more spring for a Pflueger Trion. Thats a reel that will last a lifetime. I still take mine out regularly even after graduating to a Supreme.
  23. I agree and it pairs up nice with my Shimano Syncopate. I use Ugly Stiks mostly for salt water fishing now. Love the Tiger Lite. If it was a combo deal from Walmart I would guess its the standard Ugly Stik. Still good, but not up there with the Pro-lite.
  24. I agree 100% No booze or beer will ever touch my lips on a day I have to touch a steering wheel of any type.
