  1. Dad taught me the basics like casting and fishing with a hook and bobber. Through the years I learned a lot more through Fishing magazines, books and TV shows. Oh and experience, which is always a great teacher. It taught me to never be afraid to try new things when nothing else is working.
  2. I hope he becomes the KVD, Skeet or Mike Iaconelli of his generation Hopefully he will appreciate all the pictures I am taking of the fish he catches. I wish my dad had taken pictures of some of the fish we caught when I was my sons age :'(
  3. It sure is. I bought him a 6' med action spincast combo. He loves it so far and it has increased his enthusiasm for fishing.
  4. The larger tank can support a bigger bioload. The fish will have a growth spurt but then slow down as it reaches a size where the bioload gets higher. As I mentioned in an earlier post changing a large portion of the tanks water lessens the bioload and the fish can literally outgrow the tank. I am not an expert, but I have experienced this first hand. My poor Oscar could not turn around in my 20 gallon aquarium without displacing the hood he got so big. He experience a growth spurt when I relocated him to a 55 but then slowed down when he got rather large for that tank. By then I was making slight water changes once a month as I had learned my lesson about making to many water changes.
  5. This illustrates my point exactly, growth was LIMITED due to tank size. The point is somewhat true. The fishes growth will slow down when it aprroaches the tank size with one exception, water changes. If you change a large portion of the water in the tank weekly that fish will grow to a size where it will not be able to turn around anymore. I had an Oscar in a 20 gallon tank and was almost OCD about cleaning it. I had one of those tank vacuum thingies that attach to your bathroom faucet and suction up debris from the tank bottom. I changed the water in that tank at least once a week sometimes twice. MY Oscar grew to a point where he could barely turn around anymore. I had to upgrade to a 55 gallon tank. Through some research I found that fish release some kind of growth inhibitor in their waste. The regular water changes removed that inhibitor from the tank and thats why he outgrew it. To the original poster Bass and aquariums are a bad idea. Start off with a different fish, like a red devil or managuense jaguar cichlid. They are bass like and easier to keep.
  6. I took my son fishing with his new spincast combo and he caught his biggest bass yet. I forgot my digital scale so I used an old spring one it read 2lbs. Sure felt like a 2 pounder, he couldn't hold it by himself it was to heavy for him. One last sunfish on his old combo
  7. Great fish! I love the swimming away picture, thats a nice shot.
  8. Nice fish! The bass are biting nice in the north this year. I love the pictures, thats some real pretty water.
  9. Islandbass is wise, all 5 points are spot on. I found it helpful to bring a rod and reel with a lure attached that I removed the hooks from. My son loves casting it over and over again into the lake with no danger of him hooking himself, me or others. I have another rod set up with a live bait rig in a rod holder on shore nearby. When a fish bites on that rig I let him reel them in. This year he has been holding that rod waiting for a bite. He is developing patience, as much as he can at his age (5 and a half)
  10. I like Heineken Light Honorable mention to Budweiser Select, Labatt Blue Light and Red Stripe
  11. I was on vacation from work so I could enjoy time with my son while he was on spring break from Kindergarten. I took him fishing, this is his second year of fishing so I trust him more with a hook now. We had the best time and he caught a lot of different kinds of fish on his Superman fishing pole. He is still squeamish about holding them. Sunfish Brook trout on my rod and reel Largemouth Bass Same bass. I tried to get him to hold it He did so good on that toy fishing pole I figured he could graduate to a better setup. I went and bought him a shakespeare mantis combo over the weekend.
  12. Thanks guys!
  13. I caught this fish at a local pond this Saturday. I think its a Pickerel, how can you tell the difference between Pike and Pickerel?
  14. Nothing on the President rod, sorry. They had a review on about 50 new items, rods reels and tackle.
  15. Yay Jets!! Good game, it would have been a lot closer without all those dropped passes. Titans are a good team, Jets were better yesterday. I predict they will meet again in the post season.
  16. Sorry for the triple post but according to the latest North American Fisherman magazine the Pres XT is $79.95
  17. The old Medalist didn't have On / Off anti-reverse (Muddy can correct me if I am wrong). Same problem as the Infusion. They were very heavy, in my opinion they were made more for saltwater fishing than fresh.
  18. If I were the creator of this thread it would be titled "A good finish..." because I could die happy after catching trout like that. Thats some nice fish you caught. I am going to have to try trout fishing. There are some nice streams on this side of NY also.
  19. Still paying around $2.25 here in NY :'(
  20. Frosted blueberry, hot or cold doesn't matter. My favorite brand was called Merry (Danish?) Go Rounds. I don't think they make them anymore.
  21. I love my Eagle GT. I know that is one of the lower end rods that Fenwick makes so I can only imagine their high end stuff is even better.
  22. My Dad has one and its a great rod. Light as a feather and plenty of backbone. I highly recommend Powell rods.
  23. He's from south jersey, he must be Tony Soprano wannabe. ;D Oops modified because I forgot the ;D
