A funny experiment with scents....
Wayne P. did a similar thing with a coppertone/insect repellent mix and had pretty much the same results.

Fishing HEAVY Cover.
How about a Heddon Moss Boss or similar spoon across the top or maybe a heavy spoon to get down underneath it?

Vivif - Panther Martin
Anyone use these? KMart has the 6" ones (although they looked bigger) for cheap. Wasn't sure if anyone had experience with them. My one concern was the single hook as it looked like there was a good chance of missing a hookup.

So I've read a lot on crankbaits, but still have one question...
I second the braid idea to stop losing them, although I have a bunch that now need new trebles. Still cheaper than a new bait. I've actually gained lures on snags since I switched, pulling up branches with a few cranks on them. Also, although I know most people here hate them, learn on the cheap WalMart renegades. For a dollar or two they're perfect to start out with and you won't care if you lose them.

Anyone mix plastic colors on purpose so they bleed together?
Had some white Yum tubes that I got on sale, mixed some in with Tequila Sunrise Powerworms to go with a bleeding white, since I'm not sold on plain white as a color. Have thought about doing with other plasticss as well. Able to get my first bass on a tube with these, about a 3.5 lber.

Used or New for person who knows nothing about boats?
Thanks for the advice. I've been looking at Craigslist lately, hopefully I'll find something after this weekend that's not too expensive.

Used or New for person who knows nothing about boats?
Yeah, I figured they were the same as cars, drop in price like a stone once they're off the lot. I was mainly thinking a small jon boat. I wasn't sure if I stood a good chance of buying some scrap metal masquerading as a boat as opposed to findng a great deal if I went the used route. Wasn't sure what piece of mind I'd get from having a dealer to go back too would be worth the extra cost either.

New Metallica Single
I've been hearing good things about this album for two years now. Singles sound OK, will have to give the album a few good solid listens to make an opinion but this confirms they're going back to the sound of their early albums.

Used or New for person who knows nothing about boats?
I know next to nothing regarding boats but hoping if finances work out right to get a boat. I am thinking a small Jon boat. Knowing nothing about boats do you think I'd be better off paying more and going new or is their low risk of getting rooked on a small Jon Boat?

should I put on Braid or no??
I've been using braid (30lb Suffix) for about two months and have not noticed any difference in regards to the actual fish. They don't seem to care that i've switched but I'm not fishing much clear water. I've pulled up some pretty nasty things with the braid, garnering a few buzzbaits and cranks that someone else most likely lost using mono or fluoro. That being said, it's pricey, and after a few times it becomes like string so it can get caught in your hooks easily when using a walk the dog or jerk type bait. I think it depends on how many fish you're losing due to breakoffs, what type of water you'll be fishing and to some extent how many cranks your losing to snags. For where I fish I won't be going back to mono ever based on my limited experience.

TT Tru-Life swimbait
If I'm not mistaken, Cabela's has them for the $49.99 price online.

You have 75 bucks
If your lures are at home (ie not lost) I would use this as an excuse to get some pricey swimbaits. Throw in 4 or 5 bags of plastics to top it off (Senkos, Trick Worms, Buzz frogs, Twin tailed Grubs or Craws, Flukes, in a green, red or black except for the Flukes) If you're lures are toast, I'd go with the above 4 or 5 bags of plastics, a spook, a Black Jitterbug, Chartreuse Spinnerbait, Black Spinnerbait, a silver RatLtrap, Manns minus 1 in baby bass, a Mepps Black Fury (#3 or 4), a Silver Minnow (Rapala or other), a diver like a Rapala DT 6 or 10 in natural colors, and then a frog like a Spro. After that you'd probably have enough for a Green/Brown jig and a Black/Blue jig to round it out.

Rapala Salt Water Lures = Swim Bait
Just grabbed a cheap Marathon Saltwater 7" jointed minnow at Dicks for $2. It looks like a jointed saltwater Bomber A.

lure priority
Fishing from shore, I typically will throw a topwater (spook, buzz frog) or something that rattles first (husky jerk, RatLtrap), in attempts to get what is there to bite or tempt fish that aren't there to come investigate. I don't use scent (at the moment) but will use pre-scented plastics early as well, figuring that will help draw them in if they aren't there. After that it's determining if fish are there, if I think they're there but not biting I'll go to a trick worm or senko, if I don't think any are there I'll move on, making sure to stop back at the spot on the bank on my way back. Spring is a different story since you usually know where they are and can easily reach them from shore. In that case I'll go with a Fluke or a Senko or an inline spinner to start off and only go to something different if they aren't biting.

Bass off in CT
It's been slow in Mass, hit 3 ponds today (Horn Pond, Upper Mystic Lake & Spy Pond). Nothing except for one LM that was less than 6 inches caught on a white spinnerbait by the trailer hook. Pretty much been slow for a month. Did get one niced sized LM last week, but it's been about one or two a day only.

What is your least favorite Metallica album?
I thinks it's all been downhill since Master of Puppets, Justice was a step down and, and everything after that has been two or three steps down. That being said, a friend of mine knows someone who helped out on the new album. Supposedly, the new album is a return to the late 80's heydey. We will see.

Preparing for winter
Layers, layers and more layers but make sure they're loose, or you'll lose the effect, that goes for your feet as well. Get a non-cotton base as cotton tends to soak up sweat and chill you off. Besides that I wouldn't go too crazy spending. I found that two pairs of wool socks in my sneakers loosely tied are warmer than two pairs of wools socks in my insulated boots because my boots fit me better/tighter. A baggy pair of pants (to fit layers underneath) and a baggy sweatshirt go a long way. I try to do five or six layers and that has done me well in 10+ hour days in freezing temperatures watching the Patriots play. Any waterproof shell on top will keep the rain out. You just have to buy a bit big so the layers fully insulate and you're able to move.

have any of you used these?
I had good luck with them in the spring. I was getting more hits on them than other plastics during the spawn, including Senkos. Not a lot of luck during the summer, but the bite has been slow with everything.

Are the bass getting ready for winter already???
Saw some nice stripers schooling in the narrow channel at Long Wharf today. Went on a whale watch with the wife and kids. Wish I bought my rod with me for the wait, saw more bass in the 10 minutes before and after the watch than I have all summer. The bite has seemed to get a little better as of late. It was a weird summer weather wise, maybe that had something to do with it. Hooked two good size ones yesterday (both deeper water), one threw the hook, but I'm hoping it's the start of the bite getting a little better to finish off the summer.

night fishing tomorrow
Can't go wrong with a Jitterbug either in case those don't work. What's your opinion on the Midnight Special? Just picked one up myself.

Caught a buzzbait, a spook and probably the best 3lber I could.
I'll take one and only one like this anyday. Caught him so far off of shore it seemed like it took 20 minutes to get him in. In reality it was probably under a minute. Bought the castmaster spoon with the thought of using it when the stripers run up river in the spring, might have to try it more often for largemouth, it looked real nice wobbling through the water and that bass seemed to agree.

Caught a buzzbait, a spook and probably the best 3lber I could.
Things started out rough, only hooked one, a good size one a red and white tube that threw the hook. Looked like a bad day. Than came across a decent white buzz bait hanging from a branch, able to "catch" that with a cheap spinnerbait. (benefits of braided line) Moved downstream came across a spook I had lost in a branch overhanging the water (it shot into the branch while "removing" it from a snag). It was hanging loose now, not like I'd left it a month ago. Able to "catch" this one too, I love braid. Finally, about to head home, kept trying to get my lures farther out into deeper water. Finally threw on a blue Kastmaster spoon on, not a big fan of spoons, but it casts a mile. 3rd cast in I hooked a nice 3lber. Best was that it was about 150 feet out, so it was one of the best fights I had fishing. Jumped 3 times and tried to make a few runs. Here's the poorly taken (as always) pic. It's easier than it looks to get yourself and the bass in the same picture on your camera phone.
