  1. for me, bass fishing is all about the fun of using and catching fish with artificial lures. using live bait is a totally different sport to me. im going to need beer and I will be targeting bigger species than freshwater bass. also fun but a different "game". is natural bait that was once alive (cutbait, squid etc) considered live bait?
  2. palomar. if done correctly and it wont break.
  3. the nrx 852s. hands down the most sensitive rod I have ever used with perfect power and action for non treble baits < 3/8oz.
  4. I let them use my rods, I can only use one at a time. I rather have them break a GLX or NRX rod that I can have replaced for $100 than a $150 dollar rod with no replacement service.
  5. 3/8oz white on a MH fast rod
  6. was the 6" senko used? maybe some salt dissolved when it was used? did you measure more than one 5" and one 6"? Z-Man TRD = 4.2 grams
  7. still trying to justify that ugly stick purchase?
  8. like mentioned above, lines are tools for the job. braid is going to be better in grass and have minimal strech, FC is going to transmit a bit more on the drop and have less contrast, mono is going to be more forgiving and float etc... most people would not use FC on a topwater popper and would not use braid around sharp rocks. i think that if you spend just a few more hours casting the FC you will change your opinion. for me FC doesnt completely replace braid but i use it for most bottom contact applications.
  9. i use and lose a lot of jigs. i now buy jig heads (mostly arky) and with a 4 dollar skirt tool, some skirt bands and skirts i can make my jigs how i want them at a very cheap price. https://fishingskirts.com/ - skirt tool, skirt bands, skirts tackle warehouse . com - skirt tool, skirt bands, skirts http://cadmansjigs.weebly.com/ - jigheads http://www.elkenlures.com/jigheads.htm - jigheads http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/ - jigheads
  10. thats the most ridiculous thing ive heard. well at least in a few days.
  11. ill most likely use #6 p line cx. should i downsize? the 25 might be the same size as the 30 but with a larger spool. if thats the case then the line will be a bit more manageable than with a smaller spool. 6# is a good light line size. i would not downsize unless you really feel the need to. what are you going to throw with this rod?
  12. the 842 NRX is an awesome rod. its ridiculous with an aldebaran. that being said it is far from being a very versatile rod as far as having a good weight range. A lot lighter in power than the discontinued GLX MBR 842c. what do you plan on throwing with it? you might want to look into the 843 if its not too late. if you have done your homework and know the 842 is right for your intended applications, please disregard! edit: you said 842s. i have not fished it but sounds like a good spinning rod choice. i have the 852s and its a favorite.
  13. life is too short and time is too valuable to fish with anything less than the best you can afford! i dont think my loomis rods catch me many more fish than my less expensive rods of the past but they make the experience more enjoyable - for me. if you would only upgrade to catch a lot more fish, then you would be wasting your money on anything more expensive than a lightning rod (i think i had one in the 90's).
  14. unfortunately, this is not the best resource for product reviews because several products have been banned and cannot be discussed (see idea #2). check out monster fishing tackle. you should be able to get a glx for about $280 and a imx for about $200 after clicking "email me best price" and getting the $25 off for signing up to the newsletter.
  15. id probably go with Westbred Diamond just from watching his "On the River" YouTube videos.
  16. 50% off? nah, you should have keep searching.
  17. what rod are you pairing it with? take a look at the Ci4+ version. the weight alone of that reel brought many of my spinning rods back to life. if you decide to go with a 1000 size, check out the JDM Rarenium 2000 HGS Ci4+. 1000 size with a very shallow 2000 size spool. https://japanlureshop.com/shimano-rarenium-1000s-6771.html
  18. 1. 6'8"-7" spinning, XF 2. i like fast rods for small cranks, others may like mod or mod-fast. 7", baitcaster if it can cast the crank 3. 6'8"-7" baitcaster, F or XF It is common to see rods in the 7'6" range for all of these, I just like them shorter than that. I recommend St. Croix Avids or used G Loomis at your price range but there are many great brands out there. An Avid spinning 6'8" M/XF would work but not be ideal for drop shot and would be a good choice for senkos and small jigs/plastics. Ideally #1 would be two different rods but you can easily get by on one.
  19. inline spinner that my dad made when I was in elementary school on the upper Potomac river. I caught my first bass (SMB) that day and it totally changed my view on fishing (I always liked it but now I loved it) and have been using artificial baits ever since.
  20. thanks, I figured the buzzbait moves too fast (even at slowest possible speed) for the sinking properties of FC to affect it. I will keep FC on the reel and try it out. Sam - Cavitron are the only ones I own!
  21. Hello, I'd like to use my 8.5:1 reel for buzzbaits but it is mainly a jig reel with 15lb flouro. Will FC affect the action of a buzzbait? I know its not good for topwater but I figure buzzbaits are an exception. Thanks, -Z
  22. i am very interested in the Stile but i wonder why they skipped the HG gear ratio.
  23. im very happy with sunline sniper as well. i hear tatsu is great, i ordered a bunch on sale but have not tried it yet. very pricey at retail.
  24. not that you are doing it wrong, maybe i am, but i do not pin the line against the rod. the line lays taut on the tip of my index finger from the weight of the bait. i can fish all day without any finger discomfort.
  25. you can fish anything on a spinning reel that you can with a baitcaster. small cranks will fish easier than larger ones on spinning. id recommend you learn the different lures and catch a few LMB on spinning gear and if you decide to get a more ideal moving bait rod, buy a MH baitcaster and use your spinning for light bottom contact, jerkbaits and poppers. id recommend the best 2500 size Shimano you afford up to the Ci4+.
