id get a 2500 sahara, symetre or stradic.

unless youre targeting an isolated piece of structure or suspended fish on your electronics directly under the boat, id cast it out a ways. let it fall vertically and wait as long as you can stand (10-60 secs). hop, drag and pause it occasionally all the way back to the boat. i fish a t-rig similarly with a few more hops. you will feel a series of quick taps or the bait will feel heavy. the bait may start moving by itself (watch the line). set the hook if youre unsure if you hit a log or if a bass sucked it up. there are many ways to fish jigs, thats how i fish them when not targeting visible cover.

depending on fall rate, 3/16-1/2oz jig. i like natural colors for clear water. id try a 3/8oz arkie or football jighead with a 5" yamamoto double tail hula grub in green pumpkin or watermelon.

another vote for owner and gamakatsu. mustads are a good value, i like them on jigs.

im not sure if this is the case with the rods you are looking at but by my st. croix legend elite and avid rods tend to have a softer tip (not faster) than my bcr rods of similar lure weight range.

if you have rods with a similar warranty to loomis and st. croix (avid and up), $50 bucks will get you a brand new rod which is cheaper than most good quality rods. i much rather break one of my GLX rods than a Rogue rod (that cost me half as much) because of the warranty.

i think if you really want a piece of equipment and you dont buy it because the color doesnt match the other gear, there are many other hobbies you will enjoy more than fishing. like knitting, for example. :-*

i have way too many rods to take on each trip so i let guests use my rods.

buy some bitsy bug 1/4oz jigs in green craw color. add a baby rage craw of similar color. let the jig sink on semi-slack line. wait 10 secs. crawl it a few inches. pause. give it a little hop. pause. repeat and do different combos. crawl it around the rocks and logs below. work it slow. if you think you might be fishing it too fast, you are.

used cumara? wait for sale? i like 3 power loomis' for up to moderate cover and 2 power for the 1/4oz in small rivers targeting bottom structure. dont be afraid to use a medium in moderate cover. just get some good flouro and get alot of slobber on the palomar knot. i try to use the lightest rod i can get away with because it makes the fight more more fun and the jig crawling and casting more enjoyable.

1/4oz jigs with small craw trailers on spinning gear is my bread and butter. 8lb flouro. press your finger (you can squeeze it with the pointer and/or thumb of your reeling hand) lightly on the side of the wrapped fishing line to slow the bait down as it hits the water. i also like spinning for smaller jigs because i can pitch them alot farther. (bait in hand pitching, not pitch-cast)
