  1. ok I think i have it down now, thanks to all of you, now another question. I am useing 12lb test (as recommended by the manufact) but why is it that I can only cast heavy lures 3/8 an so on, but nothing lighter. Is it just more prac that i need or is my reel/ rod not designed for it. I am comfortably an consistently casting out to 40-50 yds. just keep practiceing, also can I use a lighter line like 8lb. (the reel says 10, 12, 14 lbs) thanks memo
  2. welcome to the board, where there are to places I would rather be. 1st is fishing 2nd is here. ;D ;D memo
  3. my Bait Caster doesn't have a knob for weight adjustments, all it has is the tension (the one next to the handle) the adjust ments should still be the same right? I can get beautiful cast with a 1/4 lead weight or bobber, but the moment that i put a lure on it an tried to fish :-X :-X nest. but i will get it an then,,,, gonna rip some lips. memo
  4. have you tried the rapahaneck. I know mostly of the ones at quantico, but heck do what i do carry a pole in your car drive around an when you see some water, well you get the idea. hope this lil bit helped. memo
  5. hey ron as soon as you get the a chance an catch something with them, can you let me know. I have every one at the office, going crazy with the amount of times i make them watch the videos. I told them that's all i want for X-mas. good luck with them an Big-O, you da man. memo
  6. not bad at all for aq starter. heck i went almost a whole month when i first started fishing bass before i even caught one, an when i did i side hook him. but like every one here says read, ask questions, talk to people in your area, other than that keep at it, the bass are definetly in the water. memo
  7. I realy didn't ask him (game warden) what it was, even though i should have. I just wanted to find a new place to wet a hook, because it is listed as a conservation area, I wanted to make sure that it was open to fishing. memo
  8. awesome job. glad to see that your lil one has as much interest as the rest of us. :) memo
  9. Glad to hear that i am not the only one throwing Buzzbaits anymore on Lunga. (although my Cavitrons are in the mail). If you go to eatern most side of Lunga around noon, you will love the buzzbait action. I have caught pike, perch an even a catfish on a buzz bait from Walmart. Especialy since the weather is cooling down a bit. I think we should all get together an fish Lunga an pond hope all of Quantico. any one interested memo
  10. Where I live on Marine Corps Base Quantico, there is a pond that is labeled as a thropy bass conservation area. what exactly does it mean, an what can i expect to get from it. ;D ;D It is about 5 1/2 acrea pond with a few points and open coves. the deepest part of it is suppose to be 10-15 feet. There are a few spots where there is standing timber as well as low laying branches. it is open to fish an is limited to electric only. I know the area is maintained or worked on because i have spoken to the enviormental workers there as well as the game warden about the area. thanks, memo
  11. nice fish you have there. I was browseing the frog isle today at walley world, and could figure out what I wanted. I wanna fish with a frog or any slow top water ie spoock or buzz baits (<--- to fast) any advice for a new guy, there is a place on MCB Quantico that has about 100 yrds of pads, with ALOT of boils an activity through out the day. what kind did you use an how fast/ slow was your retrives. thanks memo
  12. thanks for the responces, I have been using heavy sinkers an what not. I was able to get some good practice, with them. That is why i am now at the bobber. I guess that I am expecting to much to fast. but then again i guess that is in our nature. I will take both advice thanks RoseAngler an JacobK. as soon as i catch something i will post some pics an youu will be the first to know. memo
  13. Just wondering if any one can give me some poynters on useing a baitcaster. A friend of mine highly recommended them to me, so much he bought me one. It's a Pleuger MAXX medium action 6'6" one piece rod. I have had to restring it about 3-4 times already because of the messes that i make :-/ :-/. I have owed it for 2-3 months now have not gone fishing with it. I do practice with it every chance i get about 10-15 minutes a day if not more. I am currently useing a 2"inch bobber as a practice lure. Can some one show me where to place my thumb. how to hold it, cast, etc etc. remember pic are worth a thousand words. heck a video would be even better. thanks, memo
  14. throw the buzz bait, with the slowest possible retreat. remeber food is scare sort of, a nice fat bass should target what looks like an easy meal. or bounce some frogs around what little vegetation is 10-15 feet from the bank. memo
  15. Congrats on the new arrival ;D let me know if you need a spare spiderman fishing pole, my son has 2. memo
  16. <----------- highly excited. i am gonna throw a ton of buzz baits an top water, until i wear out my reel. (that way i am forced to use my baitcaster, hopefully by then i will have masterd it.) ;D memo
  17. welcome flatbass, I to am fairly new. just be adviced this place is highly contagious, i check this site at least 213,665,123 times a day. ;D memo
  18. this is a lil wierd an hopefully not out of topic? BUt how do you go about putting on a trailer hook? where do I tie, hook? does any onw have a pic of this on a buzz bait. thanks.
  19. I would say the week before x-mas, that way you can go through all your stuff an figure out what you need (presents from Santa) that way you have a solid week to clean up. an a solid week getting everything ready. worse comes to worse, i can reel in your cast an all the laborious stuff, clean the gear, fill the tanks etc etc. lol besides health is more imortant, memo
  20. I have a question how do I go about starting a fish outing/ tournament. What i have in mind is to have it on one of the many waters on MCB Quantico. the catch to take along a wounded service member or purple heart recipiant. The reason i bring this up is because I am a 2 time purple heart recipiant an feel that fishing is theraputic (at least it is to me). But with hunting season around the corner all the attention goes to it. I once went on a fishing outing (private invite) for injured service members. Now my question is how do I propose this an get this started. any an all suggetstion are welcomed. an if you want I can take you around the base an show where i have been fishing around base, of course since i am new to bass fishing I have no real boat other than a rubber one. As well as haveing limited tackle an expiriance. (I have restrung my bait caster at least 4-5 times still learning) thanks memo memo_43@yahoo.com

  25. sorry about the confusion. I have been going to lunga in the morning but the I drive by the potamoc in the morning (wildlife viewing area) so i figured i might try it first. I went yesterday an tried everything i had. i just wanted to see what all i could get away with. i went fishing from the bank. although there where a ton of places where fish where coming to the surface for bugs, flys, insects. i couldn't get a line there. to much weed an grass. but i will keep at it. thanks for all the help. memo
