Russ told me the chemiclas that are used to preserve the plywood cause corrosion of the aluminum. You fellas should ask him, he knows a lot in this area. I just painted the wood after it was mounted and all the screw holes taken care of , with the same green Rustolleum paint I painted the hull with.

I would think there was a slipping problem at some point because both of these guys had a homemade rubber gasket in the part that touched the boat handle I went with LBH's reccomendation of untreated plywood on the transom. I would like someday to switchover to a deeper Jon Boat and put a hand controlled motor up front.

Two of my friends have them, I have a tin row boat with a vee up front. Both of them used a kind of rubber to shimmy in the mount so it did not move around, I belive they made them out of bicycle inner tubes, at negligable cost. When I see them on the lake i will ask. I did fish with ne of the fellas recently and he used it all day, never seemed to have any trouble, then again I never asked.He had a 30# Min Kota on it, and I have the same motor, it is obviously made of plastic, and these guys have been on the Chunk as long as I have, however I have not one on my boat. You can go 2 ways here 1.Untreated plywood on the transom 2. This mount lets you use a transom mount motor on the front of a jon boat, no drilling and good control 30 bucks at Cabelas. Hey Fellas; How important , if at all are metal gears in a baitcaster. I know that all but one of my baitcasters has sythetnic plastic gears of some type. Is one better over the other and why? Thanks,Dominick

Hey Fellas: Met up with SHARKBITE for what was supposed to be an evening of topwaters on the Chunk. When we got there, we ate dinner with some friends camping there for the week , then down to put the boat on the lake. A T-storm came through, so we sat in Sharkbites car and had to do some paperwork, so to speak , of a spiritual nature. So we said a quick prayer, and started in on the work , only to look out onto Mauch Chunk to see the end of a rainbown crashing into the lake, on the oppisite shore. SOMETIMES GOD IS NOT SUBTLE!!! I had never seen the end of a rainbow and it was a very exhilirating moment. We got finished, the storm passed and the temp began a 25 degree plunge! This put the topwarter bite to bed for the night. We caught some dinks and a couple of decent fish on Black 5 inch *** Trik Sticks and I caught one on a jig. THEN THE LIGHTNING returned over the mountain and we were off the lake and home. Not enough time spent fishing but to feel God's presence , with that rainbow was the highlight of this trip 8-)
