  1. thanks for the tips ghoti. i already planned to have something covering the reel while i pull those clips out. ive read a few stories about those things shooting off. i do not have any naptha because i havnt unpacked my zippos yet , but that will give me a reason to pick some up. is there any other reason not to use carb cleaner besides the smell? i can always do it outside or in the garage since they only need to sit for an hour or so , correct? just checked and i have no carb or brake cleaner. would 80% rubbing alcohol work?
  2. brake/carb cleaner , acetone and naptha seem to be it. what about standard rubbing alcohol?
  3. and the spring beneath the spool tension cap looks like it is held in there by a lip in the housing. is there an easy way to get that out to get to that bearing? or is that where i have to be really careful.
  4. ive searched , but it only bring back results from a month ago. : ive decided , before i upgrade the bearings in my citica d , im going to give them a good cleaning and see what that does for me. what do you guys soak them in when cleaning? they are the stock bearings if that makes a difference and they will be re-lubed with the blue Penn Oil.
  5. floating rapalas , F5 and F7 in gold or silver with the black back. they are small but they have landed me plenty of fish including a 4-5lb carp on my UL rig.
  6. i always fished for bass in general as i use the exact tackle for both LM and peacocks. i found that i always cought something like 6 peacocks to 1 largemouth everyplace i went. i usually fished morning through late afternoon , not too much after dark.
  7. i lived/fished in south dade in a local small neighborhood lake and also fished in miramar in a gated community. from what ive read and heard , all the good peacock fishing is north of where i was at. the traps i threw were the orangish color. cant recall the name of the color though. they also love to tare up original floating rapalas. i have alot more 'gear' now than i did when i was down there so when i go back to visit in a couple weeks i have plenty to try and ill be sure to post up what worked and what didnt.
  8. rattle traps and zoom flukes with the twitch , twitch pause retrieve always worked well for me when i was down there. as for color , i always used green/chart. tail or baby bass colors. never had any luck with the whites.
  9. iirc , mrlitetackle has a few and loves them. im sure he will chime in once he sees this.
  10. excellent article. one of the better or best ive read on the DS. thanks.
  11. while i agree you should concider the power/action of the rod before length , i find that i grab my 6' rod before anything , mainly because i fish from shore and trees and brush can determine how im casting. with the 6'6 rod , i limit myself. it may not sound like much , but that extra 6" does makes a difference imo but that 6" will cast my baits further.
  12. how do you dropshot? if you dont mind me asking.
  13. i have a 6' M/F compre on my 201d. great all around rod imo. i also have a clarus spinning rod. either would be a great choice.
  14. im assuming this is going to be in a flat rate box? probably the $10 kind , correct? count me in.
  15. the DMVs in miami are terrible. i went to the one in clayton , nc shortly after 9am this morning... i was out with a state license by 9:45. oh man , i felt like i was dreaming.
  16. i actually cut my hand trying to break off the 6lb cxx. now i always put a sleeve over my hand when trying to break the line. i wouldnt even bother pulling with the 12lb , just stretch and cut.
  17. does everyone use line conditioner with this line? while it doesnt cast anywhere as smooth as the suffix seige i have on now , the strength it has is excellent.
  18. I didn't say send him your reel . I said send him a PM to get some info from him. woah. ;D ill shoot one his way.
  19. i would rather do it myself to save in shipping costs and turn around time.
  20. im not buying any more baitcasters for a while and i would like to get as much as i can out of my citica 201d. i know a few guys on here have upgraded bearings and drags but i am clueless on where to start looking and whats good and whats not. what all can be done and how simple is it? i do have tools and i am pretty good with schematics. the reel will almost always see freshwater but may encounter salt a couple times in its life.
  21. i had the 6lb on my abu 801 spinning reel. i did have it treated with ardent line butter (not sure how it compares to KVD L&L but it did work) and as soon as i didnt put any on it , it was like fishing with 26g speaker wire. while it was super strong i wouldnt use it for anything more than leader material. im not sure if i want to try the CX or not.
  22. will seemed like a very nice guy when i met him but i would hate to get on his bad side. ;D i still would like to meet up sometime and do some fishing though.
  23. nice fish and nice pics. what size is that boat if you dont mind me asking?
