  1. kinda OT , but has anyone had issues running braid on a shimano clarus rod? iirc , they have the fuji concept guides...
  2. i didnt mean shore fishing like from the beach. otherwise i would know i need some giant 12' pole and 3oz pyramid sinkers. the main place i would be fishing salt would be this local marina along the jetty or dock.
  3. rinse it with freshwater like you would after any outing in saltwater , and it should be fine.
  4. while they do look great running on the water , i havnt cought anything on one either. im wanting to give the other rage products a shot though.
  5. the one in question is the older model. i wouldnt imagine it being a terrible rod , but the mixed reviews made me ask about it. ive held an older eagle gt spinning rod and it was very light and felt good in my hand. i wont be able to hold it before i buy it, but i think its worth a shot at its price.
  6. looking at the 6'6 MH casting rod. anyone have any experience with them? looking at past posts , they have mixed reviews from 'great rod for the money' to 'they are best used as a mop handle'. forgot to add , this will be a 'beater' rod used for both fresh and salt water. looking at their website , i see no mention of a warranty. :-?
  7. live bait was always easiest when i was younger with just a bucket , some hooks and some split shots. i may be on a pier on occasion , but mainly from shore. i did have some jerk shads but gifted them to another member on here since ive never used them, ill pick up another bag and give them a shot.
  8. i think abus x01 size is similar to a 750. ive always used trilene xl before. its good line. recently picked up some sufix seige and i like it better. i use big game in 10lb on my baitcaster. never any issues there besides visibility. havnt tried the others. im thinking of making the switch to braid on my spinning reels.
  9. sqhertz, The CXX is very heavy and stiff unless you drop to the lower # lines. You should try the CX prem, I think you would like it. ill give it a shot. im not sure if it was the small spool size or what , but that cxx line sucks on spinning reels imo. is it a night and day difference between the two?
  10. i hate cxx on spinning reels. havnt tried it on a BC yet but i had my abu cardinal 801 spooled with 6lb cxx and it was nothing but headaches. recently switched to sufix siege and the casting distance/manageability? outweigh the cxx's break strength. havnt tried the CX or any other copoly.
  11. thanks. i wont be going saltwater fishing often at all. maybe a few times a month. i always have rinsed my reels and rods after everything outing near salt. the last few times i went out , we used live shrimp with long shank hooks in the marina (black point in cutler bay) and had decent luck. i may pick up some DOA shrimp since ive heard quite a few people speak highly about them and maybe some jerkbaits. im not looking to bring in 80+lb tarpon , but maybe some decent sized snapper , some ladyfish , and baby snook. we are already planning a trip to the keys in the near future so i just want to be ready.
  12. a big x2. also , as someone told me , when you take off the clips/springs , make sure to do it in a large clear storage bag so if they decide to shoot off , you can locate it. or you can take them to BPS. good luck.
  13. im moving back to miami (long story) in a couple weeks and i want to get into saltwater shore fishing. ive done it before but never really got into it like i did bass fishing. i have a citica d on the way and gonna pick up a beater MH rod. i was curious how many of you guys use your bass rigs for saltwater? what about baits? i wont be out there everyday , but i would still like to catch some salt fish.
  14. do you fish open water? thick grass? what do you throw? t-rigs? cranks?
  15. depending what side of the city your on , there is lake wheeler , johnson , shelley , sharon harris , umstead park , durrant nature park and falls lake. shore fishing isnt the greatest up here but its not the worst. i may be up here for another few weeks before i move back to miami. so if you want to get together shoot me a PM.
  16. gammy. occasionally ill pick up some mustad or eagle claw if im doing some live bait fishing.
  17. the LCP or LCR looks like my first pistol purchase.
  18. got a couple rebels when boaters world went out. they run every way but right. havnt tried them since , but i dont think ill be buying anything from them again. never had a problem with any rapala.
  19. i dont use it. im sure that they are worth every cent , but im also sure that if i do start using them , i wont be able to go back to lead for my t-rigs.
  20. i asked because i , like many others , like smaller reels. i dont recall ever seeing a spinning reel that was 'rated' for 100-110 yards of 10lb line. probably because of the obvious line management issues.
  21. sounds about right. if anyone is planning on getting $20 for their $100 + reel , please PM me before hand. i have $25 for ya. ;D
  22. i was thinking the same thing. i asked mainly out of curiosity.
  23. say if one reel has can hold 175 yards of 6lb line , how much 10lb can it hold? is there a formula for figuring this out?
  24. i didnt mean to run him off , if thats what i did. :-?
