casting small cranks
ive been having issues casting smaller cranks. like size 3 rapala countdowns and fat raps. like 1 out of 3 casts , the line gets cought up in the hooks and the bait comes back spinning and i have some serious line twist. i can get pretty good distance with it , but i cant think of anything that would correct this. i try to get the line tight when it hits the water but its not always possible. btw , im using a 750fb sedona on a 5' UL rod with 4lb XL.

Rod length, impact on casting distance
i would say so also. its been a while since ive used any rod over 6'. i recently got my 6'6" clarus spinning rod and i can cast much further than i could with my 6' BC rig. but the thing is when you have the room. i find myself checking for clearance before i make my casts more often too.

Yum Money Minnow
i picked up a pack of these but in the 3/0 1/16oz flavor to go with some bass magic 3.5" swimbaits. quick question , how do you guys work these? steady retrieve? twitch/jerks?

Tackle box.
one double sided plano for hooks, jigs and weights. one for lures and another for my UL stuff (small hooks jigs and cranks). larger front pocket for plastics and the smaller for my multi-tool , diagonal cutters , bug spray and small first aid kit. all in a dickies backpack i picked up at JCpenny for $8.xx on clearance. has a lifetime warranty too! ;D id say now it weighs in at under 5lbs. much more comfortable than my draw string bag i had and cheaper than any fishing bag ive seen.

Burley's Home!
If you go to Harris Lake Sqhertz, you won't have to worry about taking the Dinkmaster Title from Burley. ;D been thinking about it. ive been hitting up DNP (durant nature park) in raleigh. just off capitol , past i540. really nice park. how is the bank fishing at harris?

Gulp Overated?
this. i cought a fish on a 5" wacky crawler on a spot remover. my hands smelt like poop for the next couple hours though.

Tips for fishing ultra light vs. baitcast equipment?
i like using smaller cranks. makes setting hooks alot easier. when i do use soft plastics , i rig them tex-posed (i think thats it , where you dont bury the hook back into the bait). the super fluke jr has always cought bass for me t-rigged with a 1/0 ewg gammy but i also use any other smaller profile plastics i have with as little to no weight as possible. i use 1/32 to 1/8oz weights at the heaviest if i need to get the bait out further. i moved my cardinal 801 with 6lb line up to light duty and picked up a shimano sedona 750 and some 4lb XL for the ultralight. the 6lb wasnt giving me the distance i wanted. i havnt been out with the 4lb yet but i can imagine it would help. good luck and have fun with it.

What was your best bargain?
when boaters world went out - rattle traps for a little over a buck. my scores at dicks when the clearance was at 50% off - manns , rapalas , normans for less than $2 a pop. shaw grisby baits for 95 cents spot removers and football jigs for $1.40 a pack an open pack of rage shads with 3 in there for 75 cents rage toads for $2 for one pack. i picked up a sedona 750fb for $20 there too.

what kind of fishing line works good on baitcasting reel?
i use green big game as well in the 10lb flavor. cheap enough so that when i do get nicks on the line or if i feel its old and want to change it , my wallet isnt hurting. also being a great line (IMO) is a plus as well.

a couple more beasts!
also , it was my first outing with my new shimano clarus which cought me both. feels great with my abu 801 on it and is plenty sensitive to feel the bottom. cant really say much else about it , but i can tell it does have enough backbone to bring in some decent sized fish. definitely a great rod for the money 8-)

a couple more beasts!
;D went out to DNP today. its an old boy scout camp. really beautiful park. last couple times i went out i was skunked. i went back again this morning and cought two in 4 hours. first one was around 8:30ish by some swimming docks. cought her on a perch shad rap (sr5) a few hours later , after i walked around the take and the smaller pond , i landed this monster by the boat dock on a 3/16 shakey head and a 5" gulp wacky crawler , key lime pie in color. i was hopping it along the bottom when the came out from underneath and grabbed it my first jig fish! not really much of a fight , but it was still rewarding. i still threw more casts with a bucktail jig and a 3.5" beaver but got nothing. i did come across this - at the time i was throwing both the bucktail and the shaky head but with a 4" lizard. all i got was a short strike that didnt amount to anything. what would you guys of done here? anyways , all in all , it wasnt too bad of a morning. it was warming up from the coldfront we had , so the weather was great and i have built up some confidence in the shaky. 8-)
